Chapter 69
KAEL.
"I love you, Kael." Adessa's voice came out soft, but I was sure I heard it.
My foot stepped on the brakes, and the car came to a sudden halt, making our bodies jolt forward.
"I'm sorry," she gasped as her hands held onto the dashboard before her as if it could stop her from slamming there, but she had a seatbelt on, so I knew she was safely tucked in her seat.
"Did you just say what I heard you say?" I asked, ignoring the apology that came out of her lips because I had no idea what she was apologizing for.
"Well..." She stammered, then flashed me an embarrassed smile. "You said it first."
"I said. So you think..." A smile tugged at my mouth, but my eyes were watering. "...it was appropriate and polite to say it back?"
I couldn't contain the happiness in my chest.
I had always been a storm, and Adessa was definitely sunshine.
It was easy to love her, but I felt good and exhilarated knowing this little ball of sunshine and butterflies had fallen in love with me despite the bad way I shook her whole life.
I was not made for sweet nothings, and I love yous, but for Adessa, I was willing to bend. There was no denying she could make me weak on my knees. The words she said were warming my whole being, and it was getting harder to control the tears brimming in my eyes. I was still smiling while she shook her head in response.
"No, not like that. But I hope I heard you right." A red tint crept on her cheeks as she dropped her gaze to her fidgeting hands resting against her lap. "That you want me as much as I want you."
"You heard me wrong," I mumbled, and her head snapped up to look at me. I saw confusion in her eyes, but I continued talking before she could say anything. "I said, I love you."
She swallowed but didn't take her gaze off me this time.
"But yes, I want you. I love and want you, Adessa. I know it's not the right time to say these words because we still have a lot of things to do. I don't even know where the road will take us. Instead of me pampering you when we wake up, here we are. We couldn't even get a straight night's sleep. Every..." I was not even done talking when she ejected her seatbelt and launched herself at me.
Her arms wrapped around my neck as she hugged me tightly. Despite the awkward position we were in, I held and embraced her back just as tight while nuzzling my nose onto her neck.
"Oh, Kael. If I end up dead today, I'll be the happiest ghost to leave this earth!"
A rumble formed in my chest before I shook my head. I pulled her away from me before cupping her small face. "No one is dying here. Not you, not me. I just confessed how I felt for you, and there's no way that this is the end of it. We are just getting started, butterfly. I promise that life will get better for us-for you, after this mess."
She nodded her head. "I can't wait to wake up beside you and make breakfast for you..."
"You don't need to cook and make breakfast for me."
"I want to."
"You're all I want for breakfast..." I said huskily before capturing her lips, kissing her for a brief second before mumbling again. "And the one I want for lunch... and dinner."
Adessa giggled as I continued peppering her lips with kisses. "And all the snacks in between."
"Are you sure you love me, or do you think I'm a food?" She asked, stifling her giggles, and for a moment, the happiness radiating from her made me forget the danger we were in.
I pulled away from kissing her and just stared at her. "Both. I love you, Adessa... And you're my favorite meal. After last night, I don't think I would want to taste another."
She took a deep breath and smiled, but her eyes were watering. She then raised her coiled hand onto my temple and knocked it with her knuckles. "I think your amnesia made you fall in love with me."
"Maybe..." I teased her before I turned serious. "Or perhaps I was already in love with you before."
She opened her mouth to speak but immediately closed it. She instead wrapped her arms around me and hugged me again. "I'm glad you're here, Kael."
"Me too. I'm glad I'm here with you." I
turned my head to kiss her cheek, and at the same time she did that, our lips ended up brushing against each other, and the next thing knew, I was already kissing her. Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Soft moans escaped her throat as our kiss got aggressive until she pulled away, panting, but her eyes were sparkling as she gripped the shirt on my chest tightly. "If we ve keep
kissing, the one following us might find us. I don't want to die. Not yet...” She spoke, her lips curling into a wide smile.
"Right. We need to get out of here." I pecked her lips and let her go, doing my best not to be distracted by the smell of her arousal.
As soon as she was back and buckled in her seat. I began driving again. The forest road already looked familiar. It seemed I was heading in the right direction.
"I need to call someone," I told her.
She just nodded and watched as I grabbed the phone that Draco called earlier. I will use this and throw it away so he can't track us.
"Rasmus," I said as soon as my cousin answered the phone.
"Are you okay?" He asked. "Was it you? The explosion involving Draco's men?"
""Yes."
"I knew it. But all over the news, it said both cars were speeding in the opposite direction before colliding. Someone obviously hid the real reason."
"Draco found us again. Someone reported us to the police, but it was his men that came after us."
"Well, that explains why the reason for the explosion was covered. He might have men in contact with the authority handling Adessa's case."
I took a deep breath, annoyed that Draco was always a step ahead. "Has there been any news about Adessa recently? Is my name dragged, or that I was with her?
"No. Actually, it's been quiet for the last 24 hours. The news is primarily focused on the Alpha King. He had returned to the country and was already in the North for the Moonlight Ball."
"I hope no one will drag me into Adessa's name until we get to the ball," I told him before I asked another question. "When are you checking my pack?"
"I'm actually preparing to leave. I'll be there by sundown."
"Not a word on where I am. Just tell them I'm trying to have a breather and make sure you do what I want you to do with Dexter."
"I know. I know. I'll take care of it."
Author's Note: I'm putting this here
so everyone can read it. Adessa's POV in Chapter 66 (ending)—it's her POV, but it's stated in a way that tells us she was not aware that someone was watching them. They had no idea the wolf/man was still there as they saw him flee. So, for now, they thought no one knew of Adessa's healing power but them. I just want to make it clear to avoid confusion.
