THE FORGOTTEN LUNA

Chapter 38

LADESSA.

"I just need to figure out who's messing up our lives," Kael said, and I tried to make sense of his words.

Our lives? Or did he mean my life? Did I understand him correctly? I was sure someone was trying to sabotage mine, but him?

I was still conversing with myself when he grabbed my hand and guided me out of the room. Everything after that became a blur.

As much as I wanted to talk about what he said, I remained mummed, as I didn't want any discussion in public. Hopefully, he could rent a car where we could talk privately.

"Ready to go home?" Kael asked after he gave me the takeout bag from the drive-through. I nodded my head, and he began maneuvering the car to drive away.

This was it. I needed to tell him about Miranda before we exited this city.

But just when I was about to open my mouth, his phone rang. We bought a charger before renting a car, and he charged it right away as soon as we sat inside this vehicle. He turned it on just before we got our food. "Landon..." He mumbled and picked it up.

He was not even able to say anything when Landon's voice came, and I could hear it clearly despite not having the phone on the speaker. "What happened to you? I've been calling you since yesterday." "Relax, I'm okay. My phone battery was empty, and I don't have any charger." Kael said nonchalantly before he put the phone in speaker mode and placed it back on the dashboard. "How's the pack?" "That should be the least of your worries. Did you find Adessa?"

"Yup. Alive and well." He turned to me and gave me a wink, and I discreetly clamped my legs together. Kael should stop winking at me.

"Hi, Landon." I butted in.

"Thank Goddess." I heard the relief in his voice, and it warmed my heart.

"So stop worrying. We're on our way home." Kael chuckled, but I saw his forehead crease.

"No. No. Fuck no!" Landon's voice raised. "Take her anywhere but here."

"What the fuck is going on?"NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.

"Alpha Draco brought his brother's death to the King's Court. It's all over the news now that she's a fugitive. Police were here last night, asking people if they'd seen her."

My mouth hung open as goosebumps rose from my skin. I killed his brother, not just an ordinary man.

Oh, Goddess! This was real, not a nightmare. I was officially labeled a murderer.

"Fuck!" Kael growled as he punched the steering wheel with his fist.

I swallowed and sank deeper into my seat. I could feel the color draining from my face, and he might have sensed my uneasiness because he glanced at me.

His eyes softened, and he reached for my hand, squeezing it gently.

"Take her somewhere else. Maybe at Rasmus?" Landon suggested.

Kael's chest heaved before he threw a question at him. "Do you know why I married Adessa and not Desiree?"

"You tell me..." Landon chuckled sarcastically.

"The fuck! I want answers."

"I don't think this discussion is necessary..."

"Just fucking answer it! Damn it!" Kael's voice raised.

"No! I asked you a million times, and you just shrugged your shoulders! So no! Can we discuss the problem now?"

"Does Rasmus know Desiree was my girlfriend?" I had to ask because, as far as I remembered, I had told him about her but had not introduced them.

"I don't think so. You seldom meet him, and the last time he was here, Desiree was not around. Unless you meet him somewhere else or not here. Nor did you bring Desiree to his territory."

"Thank you. I'll think first about where I'll take her. Make sure no one knows I went looking for her."

"Got it. Maybe it's also best not to tell me where you'll take her."

The call ended with Landon. He removed his hand from mine to press his phone. I didn't expect him to take it again, but he did, clasping our hands together.

"Are you okay?" He asked, throwing me a quick glance before focusing on the road again.

I shook my head, and he squeezed my hand. "I'll think of something. We'll get through this."

"Thank you," I mumbled. "Please don't think I killed them because I wanted to. I didn't plan it."

"I never thought of it that way."

"All I wanted was to get away from them." I paused for a while, but I continued when he didn't talk. "They talked about wanting to taste me before handing me to Alpha Draco. That it shouldn't matter if they had a fill of me first because I was going to end up as one of his sex slaves anyway..."

His grip on my hand tightened, and I was fighting my tears from falling. "You were the only sexual partner I, had, and even if not, women should never be forced into something like that. It was horrible, sitting in the car with them and having all these horrible scenarios running through my head on ways they could break me."

I couldn't stop my tears anymore as the fear came back. "I told myself it was either I cry for my fate, or I try to get away. When I got the chance, I took it. I let one of them kiss me. It was repulsing. I wanted to vomit. kneed him and ran... I got into their car, but the key was not there. And they came back... belt in their hands, and their eyes told me I would be severely punished. I grabbed the gun from the dashboard and pointed it at them. I thought it would scare them, and they would give me the keys. It didn't. One tried to jump at me, and I knew he would shift. I panicked. I fired once and then twice. Until I couldn't stop anymore... I kept firing at them until I ran out of bullets."

My body trembled as I cried. I didn't even realize the car was already parked on the side of the street and that Kael had removed my seatbelt so he could pull me into his arms until heard him murmur into my ear "Sssh... They deserve it would kib them myself if I were there, and I'd be more brutal."

"I'm sorry I brought you to this mess," I said in between my hiccups.

"It's not your fault. I chose to bring myself into this. For sickness and health. Till death do us part, remember?" He spoke the final line with such gentleness that it caressed my soul.

I felt his lips press against my head while my hands on his chest gripped his shirt tightly. I wanted to remind him again that we were no longer married, but I didn't because even if we weren't, I felt that way, too. If Kael needed me, I would surely run my way back to him.

We stayed in the parked car and ate our breakfast before he told me he needed a new phone and number to avoid being tracked in case the police investigated him as well.

In no time, he got a new one, and I saw him save only Landon and Rasmus' numbers. I wondered why he didn't save Desiree's number. Or Dexter and Miranda's.

Did it mean he doesn't trust them?

Kael pressed the phone on his ear the moment he began driving away. I had no idea who he was calling or where we were heading, but I didn't mind.

After his conversation with Landon, I had no reason to doubt his intention. I knew I could trust Kael, and I would trust him wholeheartedly moving forward.

I heard the phone ring on the other line, and someone answered after a while. "This is Alpha Rasmus, Hallowed Crest Territory."

"Why Desiree?" Kael asked him right away. He didn't even greet him.
