Chapter 12
KAEL.
The day went by so slowly. My personal doctor was here and checked all my vitals. According to him, it appeared that I had recovered well, but he still advised me to take things slow and not strain myself by overworking. If he only knew I was not even thinking about work.
After lunch, Desiree asked if we could go around the open market as it officially opened today, marking the start of spring. Since I had no intention of working, I agreed.
While we were there, she tried to hold my hand, but it felt wrong as I hadn't officially announced my divorce from Adessa, so I told her to keep her hands off mine for now. She didn't like it, but she didn't complain, but I was sure she would scold me later.
We went around, and some of my people approached us, but no one seemed to ask about Adessa, but they were ignoring Desiree as well. Until one female approached me and gave me a bouquet of flowers. I thought it was for me, but she wanted me to give it to Adessa. She said she was her biggest customer, and she always looked forward to Adessa's visit every weekend to personally choose flowers for our home. She was grateful because Adessa had brought her more customers by telling others about her. And even if she offered her discounts and free flowers, Adessa never took them. She would always insist on paying.
I didn't have the heart to inform her Adessa was gone and that no one would visit her this weekend for another bulk order. Instead, I smiled and thanked her. I told her I would deliver the flowers.
Desiree's mood went down after that, so she asked that we go home. I told her she could go home, and I let my driver drive her while I walked on my own toward the central hall.
Nobody expected me to go there, so everyone started rolling their asses when I stepped in, but I didn't have time for any pleasantries. I just wanted a moment of silence, so I locked myself in my office, just staring at the dull wall in front of me while contemplating my next move.
My thoughts went back to Adessa's letter and then the handwritten instructions on the folder.
My forehead creased when I realized the handwriting was different. The letter was written in print, while the note on the folders with her instructions was in beautiful cursive letters.
I knew anyone could shift between the two handwritings, but she did sign her name in cursive on that goodbye letter. I couldn't remember what it looked like, but I had to check.
I knew she left. I knew she was moving on, but a part of me didn't want to believe she was cutting all ties.
But what the hell do I expect?
I slammed my coiled fist against my table before standing up, grabbing my jacket, and heading toward the door. I had to see the letter again. Just one confirmation that it was really her goodbye letter and not someone messing up my mind. Then I would move on. I opened the door when the phone on my table rang.
I stopped and looked back, waiting for it to stop ringing, but it didn't. I saw the office secretary outside chatting with another employee. All business calls coming into my line go to her first, so whoever was calling knew my private line.
I shut the door and went back to my desk, picking up the receiver right away. "Alpha Kael."
"Oh, finally!" Dexter's voice came from the other line.Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
"What's wrong?"
"I've been trying to track where you are for the last thirty minutes. Why didn't you bring your cell phone?" "Hmmm... I don't even know where my phone is. Do you know?"
"Nope. All I remember was that it was returned to Adessa after the accident. So probably in your room."
"I'll have to check, but do get me a new one," I told him. "What do you need?"
"We found the jewelry shop where she sold the ring."
"Sold?"
"Yes."
""Where is it?"
"At Bayson." He replied.
Bayson Bay. Human territory and three hours from the nearest border.
"Pick me up at the central hall. We'll drive there." I told him.
"It's closing in four hours."
"Then pick me up now. I want to check their CCTV to see if she left that ring."
"What if they don't have one?"
"They have to fucking produce one, or I will shut down their shop!" I snapped at him. "Don't waste time and come here!"
"I'll be there soon."
"Are you at my house?"
"Yes."
"Lock my office and tell an Omega no one is allowed there." I was not sure what the cleaning schedule was in our home at the moment, but I was hoping no one had picked up the trash bin where I tossed, Adessa's letter. I'll check it out once I get home.
"So are you telling me that you have CCTV, but you can't show it to me unless I get approval from your boss, who was on vacation at the moment, or I get a police order? Is that right?" I asked the man at the counter where my ring was.
"Yes, sir."
"Fine. I understand that, but I don't have time to wait for all those permits. So can we talk man to man here?"
He swallowed but didn't say anything. His face kept getting paler every time I talked.
I pointed at the ring in the secured display glass a few feet away from us. It had the word "reserved" on it.
"That ring is mine. Someone took it, and it seemed it was sold here. How much did you pay for it? I want to buy it."
"It's already reserved, sir." He explained. "It will be picked up next week."
"I don't care. It's mine. Name your price."
""Sir, I can't do that."
"Then show me the fucking CCTV, and I want to know who sold it!" My voice was already high, and I was losing all my patience. "Kael, relax." Dexter patted my back.
"Go outside, Dexter. Make sure no
one comes in." I spoke without diverting my gaze from the man standing in front of me. He looked like he would pee on his pants as he moved back until his back hit the wall.
Dexter let out a loud sigh before stepping out and changing the door sign to CLOSE.
"If you press a fucking alarm, you will surely not like what I'm going to do with you," I warned him.
