The Ex and Her Riches

Chapter 795

Chapter 795

“Oh… Okay, then. Take good care of Whitney, Charles. She’s the patient, so you ought to give way to her,” Jasmine reminded in a concerned tone.

Charles’ patience was running thin, but he nodded and refrained from talking back.

Jasmine turned around and walked away. However, she kept looking back, making it obvious that she didn’t trust him.

Seeing that, Charles wrapped his arm around Whitney’s shoulders and pulled her in. Whitney shot him a puzzled look, but he flashed a gentle smile in response.

Only then did Jasmine feel at ease and leave.

The moment Jasmine went out of sight in the hospital lobby, Charles retracted his arm and entered the elevator.

“Have you made an appointment? Are you going to see an internist? Which floor is it on?” he asked emotionlessly.

It took a while for Whitney to regain her senses. When she did, she followed him into the elevator and answered, “Yes. I’ve made an appointment to see an internist. Third floor.”

Charles pressed the third-floor button in the elevator and kept mum after that.

Due to how quiet and cramped the elevator was, Whitney stood there gingerly, not knowing where to look. I’ve only not seen him for ten days, but it feels as though I haven’t seen him in a long time. In fact, I even wondered if he had run into trouble and died.

“When you were sent to the hospital for your stomach flu, I was working overtime. I’m sorry.”

“Huh?” Whitney lifted her gaze in bafflement and returned to her senses afterward. Oh. He’s apologizing for what happened the last time around.

“It’s all right, Mr. Newton. Don’t worry about it,” she responded. Back then, I was always alone when I fell sick. At least I had Jasmine keeping me company and Lucas calling for help. I couldn’t have asked for more.

Charles clenched his fists in his pockets and felt a sudden sense of remorse washing over him. When Jasmine called to tell me Whitney was getting sent to the hospital for her stomach flu, I was on my way to look for Gwendolyn. That day, I hesitated and wondered if I should turn back. I ended up opting to look for Gwendolyn. In hindsight, I did Whitney wrong.

“I haven’t been back at the Newton residence for the past ten days. Aren’t you curious about what I was doing?” Charles asked proactively.

Whitney nodded at first but ended up shaking her head after giving it some thought.

Charles was amused. “What are you trying to say?”

“I’m curious because you didn’t show up at Newton Group over the past few days. However, I knew you had important matters to attend to. You told me you hated it when I asked about your personal matters. Therefore, I’m not going to meddle in your private affairs,” she replied truthfully.

Charles lowered his gaze to glance at her. She had a head of blonde curly hair and a pair of exotic- looking eyes. She was the epitome of natural beauty.

At the same time, her fine, straight nose highlighted the exquisite facial features she had.

As she stood there in silence, she looked like a kind and understanding wife.

Charles felt bad for her, but he chose to hold his tongue.

The two then exited the elevator in silence. Being a hospital in the city, the corridors were understandably brimming with patients. Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.

Whenever someone walked past Charles and Whitney, they would halt in their tracks and glance at the couple.

As soon as the couple appeared, the crowd could be heard whispering among themselves. Obviously, most of them were gossiping about Charles.

Whitney felt uneasy, so she asked softly, “Mr. Newton, we’re still keeping our marriage a secret in public. If these people recognize you and see you accompanying me to the hospital, will you be on the news headlines tomorrow?”

“Mmm-hmm,” Charles hummed in response. That’s precisely what’s going to happen.

“Perhaps… Let’s just forget about it. After all, I’ve had problems with my stomach for a long time. I’ll be okay on my own. Besides, I don’t want to waste your precious time,” she suggested.

“Mmm-hmm.”

Whitney couldn’t help feeling disappointed when he agreed to it without the slightest hesitation.

Coincidentally, it was Whitney’s turn to see the internist.

“Thank you for your time, Mr. Newton. Don’t worry. I’ll keep this from Jasmine,” Whitney uttered politely.

With that, she entered the examination room hastily, without turning back.

Charles took two steps forward and mulled over it for a couple of seconds. Ultimately, he turned around and walked in the opposite direction.

A few minutes later, someone suddenly pushed the door to the examination room open.

“Sir, please wait for your turn.” The doctor was baffled.

“I’m here to keep my wife company. I would like to hear about her diagnosis.”

Upon hearing that, the doctor shifted his gaze toward Whitney and smiled. “You have such a good husband. There aren’t many caring men like him nowadays.”

Whitney, who was back-facing the door, gradually turned around to see Charles in a face mask.

“Why are you here?” She was stunned. Didn’t he leave earlier?

Charles walked up to her from behind and placed his hands on her shoulders. In a languid yet serious tone, he replied, “I went to get a face mask from the nurse. That’s why I arrived late. Have I made you mad, Darling?”

For a moment, Whitney was dazed.

At the same time, she felt her heart racing wildly and a surge of warmth flowing through her body. Does he have superpowers in his palms or something?

“Thank you,” she uttered sincerely.

“There’s no need to thank me. We’re a married couple,” he responded lovingly before shifting his gaze toward the doctor. “What’s the situation with her stomach? Is it serious?”

The doctor went on to reveal Whitney’s condition truthfully. After Charles arrived, the doctor was basically conversing with Charles the entire time, and Whitney didn’t get a chance to join in on the conversation.

“Well, that’s about it. From now on, refrain from eating suppers, drink a glass of warm milk before bedtime, look after your diet, and get ample sleep every night. In addition, you need to do these tests. If

the indicators are normal, you’ll be fine,” the doctor said.

“Understood.”

Charles collected the doctor’s test and payment slips, helped Whitney with her purse, held her hand, and led her to make payment and do the other tests.

Whitney was in a daze the entire time. The Charles before my eyes seems so unreal.

Like a mindless exquisite doll, she let Charles guide her through all the procedures that day.

Meanwhile, Cedrick brought Gwendolyn back to Harrick Villa in the late afternoon.

Gwendolyn wanted to see the kids, but Cedrick insisted on first showing her their marriage certificate.

After unlocking the drawer in the wardrobe, Cedrick took out a file before passing it to Gwendolyn carefully.

Seated by the side of the bed, Gwendolyn took the file and looked through it.

Although it was just a piece of paper, it carried an immense weight. As soon as she looked at it, she saw a photo of them receiving their marriage certificates at Civil Affairs Bureau five years ago behind the certificate.

The registrar, registration date, marriage certificate number, and so on were all printed on the certificate.

In the photo that showed them dressed in white with a flower wall behind them, the couple could be seen smiling brightly. In fact, they could barely contain the excitement and joy in their eyes.

Emotions welled up inside Gwendolyn as she ran her fingers across the photo.

Cedrick was standing next to her, and he asked, “Do you recall anything?”

Gwendolyn’s fingers froze, and she shook her head before closing the file.

Unwilling to give up, Cedrick said, “It’s all right. All that matters is that you know I’m not lying to you, Gwenny. I just want you to know that we’re really a married couple.”

Gwendolyn remained silent as she flashed a gentle smile. Needless to say, her heart softened when she saw the marriage certificate again.

Cedrick carefully retrieved the file from her and placed it back in the drawer.

After that, he took out the Lego pieces from under the wardrobe.

Gwendolyn almost couldn’t hold back her laughter when she saw the Lego pieces. She tried her best to keep a straight face and asked, “What are these?”

“These are rare edition Lego pieces. Normally, people just play with them. In this house, however, I kneel on them.” He laid the Lego pieces on the ground in front of Gwendolyn and turned around to pull open the drawer by the bed. From there, he whipped out a ruler.

“What’s that?”

“It’s our sturdy and intimidating ruler. Apart from using it to take measurements, it can also be used to hit me,” Cedrick answered.

Gwendolyn was rendered speechless. Who knew I have such a funny husband? It’s getting really hard to hold back my laughter!
