Chapter 84
Chapter 84
In the morning, Evelyn strutted into the office wearing a sleek black dress.
“Today is the anniversary of my sister’s death. Later, I’ll be joining Leo to pay homage to her. He
arranged for her favorite black tulips to be flown in from Holland especially for today. On this day every
year, he always gets particularly upset, sometimes locking himself in his room for the whole day,
cradling a photo of my sister, keeping her company.”
She cast her eyes downward, revealing a sorrowful expression.
Emma clucked her tongue, “I never knew the big boss was so devoted.”
“No wonder he’s always so aloof towards Ms. Elowen.” Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Such a shame, love so deep yet so short–lived.”
Everyone sighed with empathy.
Aurelia secretly rolled her eyes. Was it necessary to share such personal matters in the office?
The whole company knew her sister was the boss’s first love, no need to mention it every day!
She peeled a segment of an orange and popped it into her mouth.
Why was it so sour?
Wasn’t it a sweet orange?
After Evelyn left, Lily sent a WhatsApp message. [Aurelia, I have some important news.]
[Meet me in the conference room.]
Aurelia shut the blinds, taking care to avoid prying ears.
Lily whispered, “The person Evelyn really wants to impress isn’t Harry from the marketing department,
but Mr. Louis, the vice president. Last week, she secretly invited Mr. Louis to the most exclusive club in
Elysium and even got him a membership card worth tens of thousands.”
Aurelia was taken aback. No wonder Mr. Louis had targeted her during yesterday’s meeting.
To defeat her, Evelyn really was splurging!
“Is this information reliable?”
*Jack told me himself. His friend, who happens to be the manager of that club, accidentally let it slip
during
a meal.”
Lily paused, and then added, “I also heard that there was some friction between Mr. Louis and Mr.
Harry over the division of departments. Mr. Louis most likely wants to take this opportunity to put down
Mr. Harry.”
Aurelia’s fingers tapped lightly on the table. She was deep in thought.
“Mr. Harry must have realized this by now. He won’t sit back and do nothing.”
She leaned over to whisper something in Lily’s ear. Lily nodded, “Okay, I’ll figure something out.”
Leaving the conference room, Aurelia switched to a more relaxed tone, “From now on, don’t call him
Mr. Jack. Call him Jacky, make it more personal!”
Lily’s cheeks turned slightly red, “We’ve only just started dating.”
Aurelia giggled, “You two make a perfect couple.”
As they were chatting, they saw Elowen walking in.
Not seeing Leopold, she was a bit frustrated and wanted to vent on Evelyn.
Upon entering and seeing that Evelyn was not there, she immediately became alert and walked straight
up to Aurelia, “Where’s Evelyn?”
Aurelia stuck out her tongue. Such a perfect timing to check!
“I heard that today is the anniversary of her sister’s death, so she and Mr. Leopold went to pay their
respects. I also heard that Mr. Leopold even had her sister’s favorite black tulips flown in from
Holland.”
Elowen was instantly enraged, “A mere empty box, there’s not even a body to pay respect to.”
Emma and the others looked at each other and kept their heads down, not daring to speak.
What could they do? Even if Elowen was not favored, she was still the legitimate fiancee and the
boss’s
cousin.
Just as Aurelia was about to return to her seat, she was pulled in by Elowen, “It’s noon already, come
have
lunch with me.”
What? Aurelia thought she had misheard. Before she could react, she was dragged away by Elowen.
They went to an upscale restaurant downstairs.
Elowen ordered a steak meal. With a belly full of anger, she picked up her knife and started stabbing
the tender filet steak, turning it into a sieve.
“Why haven’t you gotten rid of Evelyn yet? You’re so useless!”
Aurelia gasped, she never thought of getting rid of Evelyn, she just wanted a fair competition.
“Ms. Elowen, her sister was Mr. Leopold’s first love. She’s adored by everyone in the company. I, on
the other hand, am a thorn in Mr. Leopold’s side. Ever since that incident, Mr. Leopold can’t stand the
sight of me. If it weren’t for my slight design talent, he would have fired me long ago.”
