Chapter 70
Chapter 70
“I’m really in need of some material comfort to soothe my anxious heart, not for me, but for the little
babies inside me. If I’m good, they’re good,” she said, lifting a hand to her forehead and sighing
deeply.
“What’s the answer to my worries? Only money, of course,” she added.
Leopold didn’t know whether to feel exasperated or amused. “Such a drama queen,” he thought, “you
can believe she’s from drama school, not arts school.”
He rose from his plush chair and looked down at her from the height of his standing position, his eyes
filled with disdain.
“I can give you money, but the children are not a bargaining chip for you to exploit. If you dare to use
them in such a way, I’ll take away your credit cards and you won’t get a penny!” His tone was icy cold,
as if a frigid wind from Siberia had swept into the room, causing the office temperature to drop below
freezing. Aurelia shivered involuntarily and recoiled slightly.
“The children were mine too, I… I would never exploit them. I’m just telling the truth,” she stammered.
Leopold smirked, “The less they inherit from you, the better.”
His words were deeply hurtful and insulting. Aurelia felt like she had been dealt a crushing blow to the
heart. “All he wants is to have another woman replace me as the mother of his children,” she thought
bitterly.
She was on the verge of lashing out at him and unloading all of her grievances, but she held back. She
knew that he would only side with Evelyn, and might even praise her for her emotional intelligence and
ability to navigate social relationships, saying that she was more suitable for the director’s position.
“Hopefully, the children will turn out just like you, not like me,” she retorted.
“Let’s hope so,” Leopold responded coldly, before returning to his chair and ignoring her, as if even a
glance in her direction would contaminate his vision.
She stiffened for a moment before leaving the room. His disdain for her didn’t matter, she was used to Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
it. She didn’t want to compete, but she wouldn’t back down from what was rightfully hers.
After work, she went to the train station to pick up her brother.
“Sis!” Avery ran out excitedly, dragging his suitcase behind him. He opened his arms wide and gave
her a big bear hug.
Seeing her lively brother back, Aurelia was overcome with emotion and fought back tears.
“Avery, I’m so glad you’re okay,” she said.
“What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger,” Avery replied cheerfully. They walked out of the station
together, both striking figures that attracted admiring glances from passersby.
Aurelia took him to a hotel and after setting down his luggage, they went out for dinner.
“You’ve lost so much weight, you need to eat more,” she said, constantly serving him food.
Avery made a grimace, “That’s enough, sis. I’m an actor, I need to watch my figure. Being skinny
covers a multitude of flaws, but being fat ruins my handsome face.”
“Don’t worry, handsome idols should have six–pack abs, being too skinny isn’t good either,” Aurelia
laughed. With Avery’s good looks, he could easily outshine the heartthrobs in showbiz. If he hadn’t
fallen ill, he
would’ve been signed by an agency and made his debut by now.
Avery took a sip of his soup and smiled mysteriously, “Sis, I’m going for an audition after reporting to
school
tomorrow!”
Aurelia was taken aback, “You haven’t even resumed school, how did the production team know you?”
“A friend introduced me. He’s already made his debut and filmed several web dramas,” Avery replied,
his smile turning bitter.
Aurelia noticed his sudden change in mood and comforted him, “Avery, health is the most important
thing. You can’t rush things. You need to take care of your health first.”
Avery lowered his head, his expression gloomy. His illness had cost his parents their jobs and depleted
their savings. He didn’t know where his sister was getting the money for his expensive monthly
medication. He was worried that she might be borrowing from loan sharks and could end up in debt.
That’s why he wanted to sign with an agency and start earning money as soon as possible, to help her
repay her debts.
