Chapter 54
Chapter 54
He had never known fear, not even when he was kidnapped as a young boy. He had always managed
to keep cool, overpower his captors, and escape.
But now, he found himself inexplicably panicked, and more than that, terrified.
This woman had guts that left him feeling powerless.
Night was slowly creeping over the banks of the Seine.
Aurelia had just stepped off the subway and was navigating through the dimly lit underground tunnel.
The tunnel seemed to stretch on forever, and only a few pedestrians passed her by.
Suddenly, a hand grabbed her backpack. She turned around to find a scruffy, bearded homeless man.
He was clutching a bottle of liquor, and the strong smell of alcohol made her nauseous.
The man was mumbling something she couldn’t understand, but his lecherous smirk told her he was up
to no good.
She had read news stories about the dangers of homeless drifters and drunks.
Her heartbeat quickened as she tried to shake off his hand and run away.
But being pregnant, she couldn’t outrun him and he quickly caught up with her.
The man seized her by the throat, dragging her into a dark corner, and threw her to the ground.
She instinctively protected her abdomen, fearful for the safety of her unborn children, and called out for
help, “Help—help–”
Passerby glanced over but quickly moved on, showing a chilling indifference.
The man was undeterred, salivating as he took a swig from his bottle and unbuckled his belt.
Aurelia desperately tried to back away, but was soon cornered by a wall, “No, don’t touch me, stay
away!”
The man laughed wickedly and lunged at her.
With gritted teeth, Aurelia kicked him hard, aiming for his groin. Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
She was determined to fight for her life, refusing to let this drunk violate her or harm her children.
The man howled in pain, clutching his crotch.
Aurelia quickly scrambled to her feet, snatched the bottle from his hand, and smashed it against his
head without hesitation.
The bottle shattered upon impact, and blood splattered everywhere.
The man groaned, swayed, and then collapsed onto the ground, motionless.
Aurelia, terrified, took off running, but bumped into a man.
Instinctively, she started hitting the person in front of her, yelling, “Don’t touch me, get away, get away!”
“Aurelia, it’s me!” Arnold embraced her.
Seeing his familiar and gentle face, tears welled up in Aurelia’s eyes, “Arno, oh…”
“It’s okay, don’t be scared. I’m here,” Arnold soothed her, gently stroking her hair.
‘self–defense.
Back in the car, Aurelia was still shaking, hugging herself tightly.
Arnold handed her a bottle of juice, a mix of pity and concern in his eyes.
Despite her delicate appearance, this girl was far braver than he had imagined.
“What happened? Weren’t you supposed to be at a meeting at the hotel? How did you end up here?”
Aurelia looked down, her long, lashes casting a shadow over her eyelids, “I can’t explain right now….”
Arnold saw a flash of determination in her eyes. He reached out and gently stroked her hair, “That’s
fine. If you don’t want to talk about it, you don’t have to. But you need to tell me where you want to go
next.”
Aurelia pressed her lips together, “I can’t stay in Paris anymore. I want to go home, but all the flights
are fully booked.”
Arnold thought for a moment, “You’ve come all the way to France and haven’t had a chance to see
anything. How about this, I’ll take you to a hidden spot for a few days. No one will know. Once the flight
is arranged, we’ll go back together.”
His gentle tone gave her a sense of security, easing her fear and anxiety. She nodded in agreement,
“Okay.”
At that moment, Leopold was at Les Sablons, where the security cameras had captured Aurelia getting
off the Line 1 subway.
He had been searching for her for quite some time and was now growing increasingly anxious and
frustrated.
Kevin, along with the bodyguards, rushed over, “Mr. Leopold, a station employee just said that an hour
ago, a homeless man attacked a girl in the underground tunnel.”
