The ceo’s secretary

Chapter 16

Jason came out ten minutes later with a livid expression, and we went back to his house in absolute silence.

“Is everything okay?” I asked him for the tenth time when I noticed that he wasn’t comfortable in his own skin because he kept tossing and turning every now and then, but he didn’t reply.

“Do you care for some drinks?” He asked as he was getting out of bed without waiting for my reply.

I joined him five minutes later and got myself a wine glass before joining him.

“That girl’s name is Sofia,” he said after his third glass of wine.

“I’m not asking.”

“I know. I just want you to know,” he replied before pouring more wine into his glass. “We were childhood friends. I’ve known her for almost all my life, and we’ve been in an onn-andoff relationship for some time now.

“Why are you telling me all this?”

“Because I want you to know. No one understands me. My father always wants me to dance to his tune. I wanted to be a writer, but my dad turned it down.

Both of them always want me to do what they want. Everytime! Every goddamn time! They don’t care whether their decision is hurting me inside.

All they want is for me to listen to them because I am their son and because I might not be in this position if not for them.

They want me to marry Sofia.”

I knew that; that was what their reaction was to this evening, but my heart still sank when I heard it from him.

“They don’t want to hear my side of the story. She is always right. Just because of what? Just because her parents are richer than us.

My dad wants more connections; he wants more power, and he doesn’t care about getting it through my pain, my sorrow, and my blood.

Sofia is a real bitch. But my dad will never listen. At first, I thought she was going to change. You know… As in, I wasn’t enough for her.

She would cheat. I would catch her. We would break up. She would come back to me, begging. I would take her back. She would cheat again. I would catch her. She would come back to me, begging again! And we would repeat that goddamn process again! Again! And again!

She makes me feel like a fool. She makes me feel incompetent because I wanted to satisfy my parents. She makes me feel as if, without her and her family, my family wouldn’t have made it.

‘Sofia this, Sofia that’ mom will keep saying. As if she is the one who will live with her after marriage.

I want to marry someone that I love, not someone that my parents want me to marry. Someone that I will be proud of, not some bitches.

I don’t care if this is going to cause some fight between me and my parents because I’m pretty sure I’m not going to marry Sofia. I’m not going to marry anyone because my parents want me to. I would rather remain single for the rest of my life than marry that bitch. Not after all what she had done.”

I later helped him back to bed because he was too drunk to walk by himself after disclosing his feelings to me.

I shifted more to him on the bed for more heat and was already dozing off when he wrapped his hand around my waist and called

“Lexi!”

“Huh?”

“Don’t you ever leave me,” he said, babyish.

“Stop acting like a baby; it doesn’t suit my boss.”

“I’m being serious. Don’t you ever leave me for anybody else. Peter, James, and Cynthia. Don’t you ever leave me for…” He trailed off as he surrendered to sleep.

I got up as early as possible on Sunday morning and prepared breakfast by ordering bread and eggs online since there was nothing in his house. I woke him up when I was through.

“Good morning,” I said with a lovely smile splattered on my face. “Jason! Jason! Wake up!” I tapped him.

“Uhn,” he said lazily.

“Get up. It’s morning,” I cheered.

“It is?”

“Yeah, it is. Get up. Breakfast is ready.”

“Breakfast?” He asked unbelievably.

“Yeah. It’s not something much.”

“You made it yourself?”

“Yeah. Get up. I will be waiting for you.”

He joined me five minutes later and ate his share as if he had been hungry for a long time.

I talked to Judith and Cynthia later in the day and was preparing dinner when Peter called.

“Hello,” he said.

“Hello,” I whispered.

“Good evening”

“Evening,” I whispered.

“Lexi, you there.”

“Yes”

“Speak louder; I can hardly hear you. I called you because of what we talked about,” he sighed. “So, what is your answer? I knew I’d been fucking up, Lexi, but if you can give me a second chance, I’m sure I will try my best to make you happy. I don’t want to lose you. Not after everything we’ve gone through together. I love you, Lexi; I truly do.”Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.

It broke my heart to hear those words from him, but I knew I had no option but to break the news to him.

“Are you there, Lexi? Are you there?” He said it loudly to the receiver.

“Yes, Peter, I can hear you.”

“So, what is your answer?” He trembled

I sighed heavily and held onto the phone as if it were going to make things easier.

“Peter,” I called, “I know we have a story together, a story I can never or will never try to erase. You are more than a boyfriend to me. You’re like a family, like a brother to me. You treated me more than I deserved. You showed me love in your own way. You…”

“I guess I’m losing,” he trembled.

“No, you’re not, but I think you deserve someone better than me.”

“Are you seeing someone else?” He asked me quietly, as if he were scared of my reply.

“Peter, this is not a matter of seeing someone. This is between both of us.”

“So, you don’t want me anymore? Because you find someone better than me.”

“It’s not about that.”

“It’s about what then, Lexi? It’s about what? You said you want more sex, more love, more intimacy, more this, more that, and I said I’m ready to give it all to you, as far as I know you. But you’re not even ready to give me a second chance.

Are you at home? Maybe we can talk better if we see each other.”

“No, I’m not.”

“You with Cynthia, right? I can come get you. We can talk this out. Let’s talk this out, Lexi.”

“I’m not with Cynthia.”

“And you said you weren’t seeing someone else. You aren’t at home, and neither are you with Cynthia.”

“I’m on a business trip.”

“Really?”

“Yeah”

“We can talk things out when you come back.”

“I’m sorry, Peter, but there is nothing we are talking about. It’s over for real.”

“You’re giving up on us just like that?”

“I’m sorry, Peter. I’m really there.” I said as I sniffed and wiped away tears with my hand.

“It’s okay. Just know that I’m right here if you still need me.”

“Okay, Peter, bye-bye.”

“Bye, I love you.”

I hung up the phone and turned around to see Jason standing in the middle of the kitchen.
