“Hello!” Veil said smiling brightly at him.
“It’s an honor and as well a relief to know that you remember me.”
Veil chuckled and Orleans couldn’t help but smile as he watched her.
“How’s that?”
“Having a beautiful lady remember you isn’t something you get every day I guess, plus, you just saved me the stress of having to explain who I am, where we had met, and all that.”Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Veil smiled.” Although it was at night, it would be difficult to not recall the face of the person that had been of help to me. And, speaking of that night, I didn’t get to say a proper thank you to you and I also think I owe you an apology for flagging down your car. I was too in a hurry to notice I had stopped a Bentley Mulsanne.” Veil said, mouthing an embarrassed smile.
Orleans let out a light charming laugh. If he was, to be honest, that night when someone had flagged down his car, he had been surprised and wondered if the person probably didn’t see clearly, then he had looked out from the window and had seen the most beautiful woman he had since he arrived the country. She had a bright smile on her face and seemed a little distracted. “Apology accepted. Besides, it was a privilege to have had a damsel ride with me, even though it was for the briefest moment.”
“Oh don’t flatter me.” Veil chuckled and then glanced around as if searching for something, or someone. “So, what are you doing in this area?”
“Uhm! I’m searching for a job, so I’m checking the companies in the neighborhood to see if they’re hiring. He explained and then glancing at her bag, he said. “Looks like you’re ready to leave for home, let me drop you off.”
“Oh! no, my ride is on its way already, thank you.”
“Ouch!” Orleans groaned clutching onto his chest. “That hurts.” He feigned a frown. “Fine then, I’ll get going.”
“Okay. Good luck with your job Hunting, I hope you don’t find an arrogant boss.”
Orleans laughed gently and said.”I hope so too. I’ll get going, I hope to see you again sometime.”
Veil smiled at him. “Bye!”
Orleans returned her smile, turned, and started for his car. As he reached for his door, he glanced briefly at Veil and waved her bye. She waved back with a bright smile. Then Orleans boarded the car, ignited the engines, and zoomed off. Veil’s taxi arrived a few minutes later.
In the back seat of a black Rolls Royce parked a few meters adjacent the company’s building, Anders’s blood boiled as he watched Veil standing there, smiling like she had never to him, and waving at the man she had earlier been standing with. Why did she have to stoop so low as to speak and smile at just anyone that walked up to her? He wanted to say, then he saw the man’s car, an ordinary person won’t ride that.
Veil returned home and the moment she made it up to her apartment safely, she collapsed on the medium-sized bed in her bedroom. “You tried today, Veil.” She whispered words of praise to herself. She had controlled herself well enough from flaring at Anders and she had also tried her best with handling the situation with the executive. “You’re doing great!” She murmured to herself, her eyes were already heavy from not catching enough sleep in two days, it had taken her her entire resolve to not fall asleep in the car while the evening’s wind fanned her face as the driver drove. She had done a lot of work these past few days, plus, waking up so early and returning home so late, her entire body felt weak and tired. If she was to continue this way for a few more weeks, she feared she might break down sooner or later.
She also felt hungry and needed to have a bath, but, she was too tired to do any of those. She’d have to take a brief rest first, then she woke up, she’d do other things.
Veil yawned and stretched awake with a bright smile. How long had she slept that she felt this energized and revived? She helped herself from the bed, and her stomach growled in alarm. So she had gone to bed without lunch or dinner? Little wonders she had such a scary dream. Any other female would find having Anders in their dreams erotical and beautiful, but she didn’t. Not when she considered him a living nightmare.
She went into the kitchen and helped herself with making dinner. This felt so great, waking up and knowing that you have some more hours to yourself, the best feeling in the world. How many more hours did she even have left? She glanced at the kitchen clock, and her eyes widened in shock!
“Back to the company,” Anders told his driver when he realized he had left an important file. He should have called and asked Veil to bring it to him, but, he chose otherwise. She must have already left for home. He had seen the excitement in her eyes when he had asked her to take the rest of the day off.
Just as the car pulled into Kingston Street, Anders lifted his eyes from his laptop, his gaze shifting to a particular someone who was currently standing with a man.
He should be in his early thirties, and from his outfit, should not even be considered a threat. Anders thought looking at the man. But, the sudden rush of possessiveness that took abrupt control of him came as a shock.
His brows narrowed at the man, then his brow deepened in a frown. In a pair of simple jeans and a tee shirt. Such a person would never win over him, he was confident about that, well until the strange man climbed into the jaguar parked adjacent to his company’s building.
The piece of partly burnt-up toast that she had in her mouth immediately fell off to the ground when she saw that she only had five minutes left to get to work. As she was still wrapped up in a hard denial she robbed her eyes seriously with the back of her hand and then looked at the clock again but mercilessly it told her that she was even late now.
As if knowing she was about to run late for work wasn’t enough, her phone started to ring in her bag. Fetching it, Anders’ name boldly appeared on the screen and she couldn’t help herself from panicking.
“Oh, Veil,” she muttered to herself. You don’t have to be like this.” Dragging in slow breaths of calmness, she answered the call.
“Hel…” She was saying, but he didn’t let her finish.
“Prepare JK’S File and leave it on my desk.”
With that one call, Veil felt her heart leap out of her chest. How in heaven’s name had she slept so long to wake up a few minutes before her resumption time? This wasn’t good, she didn’t want Anders scolding her again like she was some ten-year-old, she couldn’t afford that. She was way past the level of having to go back and forth with her employee.
With the speed of lightening, she dashed into her room, freshened and dressed up before hurrying out with a silent prayer that Anders doesn’t arrive at the office before her and that traffic was going to kindly give favor to her.
When her taxi arrived at the company, she was more than relieved to see Anders’ car pulling in just then as well. Dragging in a deep breath, she hurried ahead of him, took the elevator to her office and sent the file he had requested to his desk, and was just hurrying out of his office. She needed to be in her office, and that too seated to welcome Anders who was approaching from the other direction in his usual long purposeful strides, and they crashed into each other the moment Veil pulled the door open.
