Chapter 28 Taking You Out for Steak
Sophia shot daggers at Emily, then turned her glare to Abigail, looking like she wanted to rip them both apart.
"Who the hell are you?" The woman who got hit, the Wright Family's daughter, was now glaring at Abigail. Abigail just smiled sweetly. "Why should I tell you?"
Emily couldn't help but chuckle. While everyone else looked annoyed, she was pretty pleased with herself.
"Emily, don't get too cocky. Even if you followed us here today, Michael won't even look your way. He didn't even invite you, and you still had the guts to show up." Sophia tried to keep her cool but couldn't help mocking Emily. Seeing Sophia was dead set on causing trouble, Emily decided to play along.
"Really? I'm the Smith Family's hostess. Do I need an invite to go anywhere? With the title of Mrs. Smith, where can't I go? But can you?" Emily's words touched a nerve, and Sophia's face twisted in anger.
The other ladies around Sophia, hearing that Emily was the Smith Family's hostess, quickly shut their mouths.
Sophia spotted Michael coming over and a sly look crossed her face. She grabbed Emily's hand, playing her old tricks.
"Emily, I'm sorry. I won't say anything more. Please forgive me." Then she leaned in close and whispered, "Emily, who do you think Michael will side with this time?"
Before Sophia could react, Emily let go, throwing herself backwards as if being pushed. Just then, Michael arrived and caught her.
Sophia was stunned that, in a second, Emily had managed to turn the tables on her. She watched Michael holding Emily, seething with rage.
Emily said regretfully, "I'm sorry, I just wanted to apologize to Sophia. It was my fault before, but I didn't expect Sophia to push me. It's all my fault. Next time I see her, I'll stay far away." Emily thought to herself, 'What's so hard about being more dramatic?' She saw Abigail silently giving her a thumbs-up, clearly impressed. Emily kept a straight face but was laughing inside. "Sophia, apologize," Michael said calmly.
Sophia naturally refused, and Emily quickly added, "Forget it, Sophia probably didn't mean it. I don't blame her."
The more Abigail listened, the more familiar these words sounded. Sophia's face turned even uglier at the realization that Emily was getting back at her for falsely accusing her before. "Sophia, didn't you hear me? Apologize," Michael said again, louder this time.
Seeing more people gathering, Sophia couldn't afford to argue. She swallowed her pride and apologized.
Michael told everyone to go inside, then pulled Emily away. Abigail wanted to stop them but was blocked by Michael's bodyguards. Emily gave her a reassuring look, signaling that Michael wouldn't do anything to her.
Michael pulled Emily into a temporary lounge. Emily had no idea what he wanted and stayed quiet.
"Emily, have you had enough? Got all that anger out? Feeling better now?" Michael sneered.
Emily never planned to hide anything from Michael. She just wanted to take a gamble, to see if he'd believe her for once.
It turned out that she had won that bet. In front of everyone, Michael made Sophia apologize. But now, it felt like she lost again.
Emily turned her head, staying silent. Michael, seeing her stubbornness, sighed in frustration. "Why do you always have to clash with her? She's not the troublemaker here. Next time, just steer clear of her."
Michael's words lit a fire in Emily, wiping out any hesitation. "So, you're saying Sophia's not the problem, but I am? Then why did you make her apologize to me just now? Michael, you're such a hypocrite. You haven't even divorced me yet, and you're already cozying up to Sophia. Unbelievable."
Emily had thought Michael had a bit of a conscience, at least standing up for her in front of Sophia. But now he was scolding her.
Michael's face darkened. He didn't want to argue. "I didn't, Emily. Don't put words in my mouth," he said sternly, then softened, "Let's drop it for today. Don't make a scene. I heard from Ava you wanted to try the steak at Luxe Gastronomie. How about I take you there after this?" His tone was unusually gentle.
Emily snorted. She didn't care about the steak, but her heart fluttered a bit at his rare gentle tone.
She scolded herself inwardly, 'It's just a steak. I can go by myself, but it's too expensive, so I haven't gone.' But with what was about to happen, it would be good enough if Michael didn't go against her afterward.
As she walked out with Michael, she saw Sophia's hateful expression. She deliberately rested her head on Michael's shoulder and asked softly, "Is the steak there good?" She was intentionally provoking Sophia, knowing her personality wouldn't allow her to stay with Michael all night. She also needed to temporarily leave Michael's sight.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Michael suddenly put his arm around her shoulder and replied gently, "Yes, you'll know when you try it." His smiling eyes made Emily momentarily lose her composure.
Sophia quickly interrupted this rare moment, squeezing between her and Michael, taking her place by holding Michael's arm. Michael frowned slightly, seemingly displeased, and he subconsciously looked at Emily.
"Michael, come on, I want to introduce someone to you." Sophia's voice was sickeningly sweet.
"You guys go ahead, I'll go find Abigail." Emily excused herself and left Michael's sight, while Michael was smoothly pulled away by Sophia.
The venue was huge, and it took her a while to find Abigail, who was drinking with a very handsome man.
"Am I interrupting?" Emily said with a smile.
Abigail pulled her over and unceremoniously introduced her to the man in front of them. "Ella." Then she introduced the man to Emily.
"Let me introduce you. This is Jeffrey Adams, the director of the design department of Phantom Beauty, responsible for the overall design of Phantom Beauty jewelry."
Emily was surprised that the design director of Phantom Beauty was such a young man.
