The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 24 Ambiguous Atmosphere

Michael only hesitated for a split second before plopping down.

"Alright," he said, grabbing a spoon from the food cart and digging in. Emily almost choked on her food. This Michael was nothing like the cold, bossy CEO she knew. "You... you didn't have dinner?" Emily finally asked, thinking he must've already eaten with Sophia.

Michael didn't bother to answer. Whether he was mad or just being stubborn, she didn't care. She couldn't exactly kick him out, so they ate in awkward silence. Emily found it weird. Lately, every time they met, it was either a fight or a standoff. Now, here they were, sitting across from each other, quietly eating their meal. The dim lighting, tasty food, and silent Michael brought back memories of when they first got married.

Most of the time, they'd sit like this, eating breakfast or dinner without saying much. Michael rarely talked. She used to think they'd always be like this, slow and steady. "We haven't eaten together like this in ages," Emily said softly, lost in thought.

Michael's hand paused mid-spoon. Yeah, it had been a long time since they had a proper meal together.

A flicker of guilt crossed his eyes. He knew it was his fault. But did she really want to have dinner with him?

He looked up at Emily. The soft light made her look even more gentle, and he couldn't look away.

Emily glanced up and caught Michael staring at her with an unreadable expression. Her heart skipped a beat.

"Why are you staring at me? If you're done, just leave," Emily said, trying to sound calm.

Michael put down the spoon, grabbed a tissue, and wiped his mouth with that usual elegant demeanor. Emily couldn't help but think, 'He's just putting on a show.'

"This grapefruit looks good. Let me try it," Michael said, reaching for a plate of peeled grapefruit she had ordered.

"Hey, that's mine," Emily protested, reaching out to protect the grapefruit, but Michael was quicker, lifting the plate above his head.

"Michael, you're shameless. You even want my fruit? Give it back," Emily snapped. She'd been feeling nauseous and wanted something sour, so she ordered the grapefruit as soon as she saw it. "This is marital property," Michael said calmly, popping a piece of fruit into his mouth.

Emily was floored by his shamelessness. 'How could he say that?' She huffed, "Don't you hate sour stuff?"

But Michael didn't show any sign of disgust. Instead, he ate several pieces in a row.

Emily was stunned. She remembered Michael used to hate sour things. Whenever he saw her eating sour fruits at home, he'd frown but never stopped her.

Michael, on the other hand, found that the grapefruit actually eased his nausea. He kept eating more, and weirdly, it didn't taste sour at all.

Emily's face darkened. "Give me back the grapefruit." If he kept eating, the plate would be empty soon.

Michael looked at Emily's puffed-up face, finding her more genuine and cute than when she was arguing with him.

"Beg me," Michael teased, a smirk playing on his lips. As expected, Emily reacted like an angry little wildcat.

"You're shameless. I bought it. Give it back," she snapped, reaching for the plate, but Michael held it higher.

Emily stood up in a huff, but in her haste, she tripped over her own feet and fell forward. Michael instinctively caught her by the waist, but she still ended up in his arms. Both of them froze. Emily, lying on top of him, was stunned.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.

"Emily, it's just a plate of grapefruit. You didn't have to throw yourself at me," Michael said, placing the fruit plate down. Then, he flipped her over, pinning her beneath him, one hand protecting her head and the other tightly holding her waist. Emily's face turned beet red. She had no idea how they ended up like this. "Michael, let go of me," she demanded, trying to push him away, but he didn't budge.

Michael looked into her eyes, feeling as if they were filled with stars, making him dizzy. 'How have I never noticed this before? And her waist, so slender that I can hold it with one hand. By the way, she's soft everywhere.'

As he looked at her, he felt his breathing grow heavy, a warm sensation spreading to his lower abdomen. Especially with her struggling beneath him, he immediately felt a change in himself. He quickly let go of her and sat up. Then he hurriedly said, "I'll pick you up tomorrow," and left without looking back.

Emily lay on the ground for a long time, unable to get up. She couldn't help but think of their first time together. Back then, he was not fully conscious and acted purely on instinct, pinning her beneath him.

Even though he wasn't clear-headed at the time, the way he looked at her was exactly the same as just now. But Abigail had said that Michael could even look at a telephone pole affectionately with his eyes.

The ambiguous atmosphere between them just now had never happened before. She didn't know how to react. Now, thinking back, she wanted to knock herself on the head. 'What am I thinking? He is going to divorce me.'

But she couldn't help but recall the way he had pinned her down, his affectionate gaze, as if she were the only person in the world. Her face turned red again at the thought. She got up and patted her face. 'Stop overthinking. How could he look at me so affectionately? Maybe he mistook me for Sophia.'

Sophia had thought that this trip would be a good opportunity. If she could get pregnant with Michael's child, she wouldn't have to worry about not marrying into the Smith Family.

She had everything prepared, but Nicholas had shown up and ruined her plans. She was feeling frustrated when she saw Michael hurriedly coming down from the third floor. A sly look flashed in her eyes.

She picked up a glass of red wine and walked over, pretending to run into him. "Michael, are you still up? Do you want to have a drink with me?" She had prepared the red wine in advance, with an aphrodisiac added. Just one glass would make someone unable to resist. She didn't believe that Michael could hold out.

Actually, she didn't want to use such means. She loved Michael and hoped they could get married normally. But she couldn't wait any longer. Yesterday, her parents had been urging her to secure Michael. The company needed investment. So, she had no choice but to take the risk. As long as she could have sex with Michael, everything would be fine.
