Chapter 23
Hivo was excited as we entered his father’s company while I was nervous. When we got out of the taxi, I looked at myself again. I’m wearing the off shoulder red dress that Angie gave me last birthday. I wanted to be presentable somehow so as not to embarrass Steven.
My son wearing the polo shirt that Steven and I bought for him. He’s also wearing the customized cap that his father bought for themselves. There is a ‘I’m his son’ embroidered on the corner of the cap. It’s small, enough to be seen by the people. And ‘I’m his father’ to Steven’s cap.
It was delivered earlier so Hivo wore it right away and insisted on bringing the other one for his dad.
“Ma’am, ID please,” the guard stopped me.
“Oh, I don’t have a company ID. But I know Steven Alvante. Please call him.”
The bodyguard is kind and he followed me right away without any questions. After a while, my son started shouting ‘daddy’ when he saw his father walking while his assistant and secretary followed him. So all the people around were staring at us.
His assistant and his secretary also seemed surprised by what my son said. It looked like a ‘Child reveal’ show.
“Hello son, Did you miss dad?” He greeted his son before kissing his forehead and carrying him.
“Yes, dad. By the way, the cap was delivered earlier. It’s cool,” my son said cheerfully.
“Really? Did you bring mine?” My son nodded. I can see from his assistant and secretary that they are curious behind. They were trying to look at my son’s face.
Hivo was wearing a cap so they couldn’t see his face clearly.
When Steven glanced at me, I saw how his eyes moved to my dress. I was suddenly conscious.
“Is it ugly?” I asked, shyly.
He came closer to me and kissed me on the side of my head.
“Was it for me?”
“Y-Yes” I answered shyly. Yeah, I dressed up like this for him.
“You look extra gorgeous today babe. But I don’t want to kill some people today so please get my coat and put it on your shoulders. It’s too revealing,” my eyes almost rolled at what he said. So possessive huh?
I just followed what he said.
“By the way babe, this is Jamie and Roel. My trusted employees,” he introduced me to his assistant and secretary.
“Hello. It’s nice to meet you,” I said to them.
“Hello ma’am. The same goes for you,”
“Hello,” Hivo greeted them.
“Roel, Jamie, my son Hivo and this is my life, Ria.” I blushed at what Steven said. I want to hide behind him. All eyes are looking at me.
When they saw my son, the shock was evident on both of their faces.
“Come on sir! The kid looks just like you,” Jamie said in shock.
“Yes sir. We thought you were still single, we didn’t know that you already have an heir, sir,” his assistant Roel said in surprise. Steven just laughed at them and took us to his office.
When I looked at Roel, I saw his eyes widen. It was as if he had seen a ghost. He’s old, I think more than fifties? I’m not sure. But why is he staring at me? Have we met before?
I notice people gossiping in the distance but I just ignored it. This is big news for them, especially since they thought their boss didn’t have a child yet.
“Ahm-babe, can I leave for a while?” I asked Steven.
“Why, where are you going?”
“To mom. She called me earlier. She wants me to meet with her. I would like to take you with Hivo but I think, I need to talk to her thoroughly first.”
“It’s okay babe. We’ll just take you where you’re going.”
“Thank you. I’ll just take a taxi back here later.”
Steven and Hivo drove me to a well-known restaurant. The staff greeted me and took me to the reserved table that mom reserved earlier.
I saw her in the distance. I smiled with joy because I saw her again after 6 years.
She was looking out the window since we were on the top floor of the restaurant. She looked so elegant in her dress. Mommy is glowing.
“Ria,” mom smiled when she saw me. She stood up and greeted me with a hug. Nothing has changed about her. Mom is still beautiful. She age like a fine wine.
“You look so good darling,” I smiled, shyly.
“Thank you, mom. You too. Where’s dad?” I missed my dad too. Even my sister, Sydney.
My foster parents, who took care of me when I was a child.
“He’s busy. You know your dad is a workaholic. Anyway, sit down first. Let’s catch up together,” she said happily, but I noticed that something was off when I mentioned the word ‘dad’.
“Thank you, mom. I miss you guys already,” I said.
“How are you hija? Where did you go when we throw you away from home?” The smile on my lips disappeared. I don’t know, I feel like. Never mind.
“I mean, when you left? We’re worried ’bout you,” she smiled. I knew mom. I knew her so well and I’m aware that her smiles are not genuine.
“I’m okay mom. I tried to survive and I did. What about you?”
“We’re fine too. Your sister, Sydney, has married a rich man and they’re in California now. While Alberto, he’s in charge of the R. L Corporation.”
R. L Corporation? I didn’t know that dad was working there. Well, I don’t know anything about dad’s work ever since.
“It’s good if that’s the case mom,” I said and smiled at her.
“You? What happened to you?” I smiled sadly because I looked like they didn’t even try to find me. They didn’t know anything about me.
“I already have a child. He’s with his dad now,” I said.
She wasn’t even surprised by what I said. No reaction. It looked like she already know about that.
“Is that so? How’s your relationship with the father of your child?” She asked while slicing the steak.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“We’re fine mom,” I answered. I would like to tell her more but I don’t feel well to the ambiance between us. Something seems not right.
“Who’s the father? What’s his name?”
Why? Why am I nervous?
“He’s Steven. Steven Marcus Alvante,” I said. Just like before, she was not surprised either.
“Oh, one of the famous bachelor. How come? I heard he’s going to marry someone else. Did you seduced him to have sex with you?” She said that shocked me.
Why does it hurt? Why mom telling me that now? I did not react immediately. I didn’t answer either.
“Leave him, rich people like Steven are only for people like him. You can find someone else on your level, darling. You’re beautiful,” I completely lost my appetite after she said that.
I don’t know what she’s trying to say. I think she said too much.
“Oh, eat more. Don’t worry, it’s on me.”
“I’m sorry mom, but I need to go.” I said while holding back the tears.
“Leave him, Ria. Get out from Steven’s life. Alberto and I will accept you as long as you leave Steven,” I stopped and looked at her in disbelief.
“What? What did you say, mom?”
“Leave him. You are not match for him. I’m sure, you just used him where in fact, someone impregnate you. You’re just after his money, right?”
H-How can she say all that to me?
“What’s your point, mom? Why are you ordering me? Why are you telling me to leave Steven?” I couldn’t help but raise my voice. I was very shocked by what she said.
“And what makes you think that he’s not the father of my child?”
What did she think of me?
“Oh! I get it. You’re using your son to extort money? Is that it?”
Seriously?
“Excuse me mom, but you are too much. Why did you invite me here? To insult me?” I couldn’t stop my tears now. It’s painful to hear those words from mommy. I love her so much.
“Why? Isn’t it true? The person already has a fiancee, yet you’re stealing him.”
Why am I still here? Clearly, mom just wanted to insult me that’s why she invited me here.
“I didn’t think you were that kind of person. I owe you a lot because you raised me. But I guess I don’t deserve to be told like that. I’m a good person mom.”
“Whatever! Just follow what I said.”
I immediately wiped my tears and looked at her directly in the eyes.
“I’m sorry mom but I can’t.” I said firmly.
“What? Why?” she asked.
“My son needs him. I need him. I love him, so no. No matter what you say, I won’t follow you.”
“What? Is that how you repay me?”
I didn’t answer. I just remained silent standing in front of her.
“You are such a useless child.”
“See mommy?”
I was surprised to see her. My eyes widened as I watched her kiss mom’s cheek.
“What are you doing here?” I asked her, angrily. What’s happening? Do they know each other?
She didn’t answer me and just raised an eyebrow at me.
“Mom, you made a mistake on raising her. You raised a snake.”
I wanted to laugh at what she said. Snake? Who? Does she define herself?
“I’m not like you. I’m not the snake here. It’s you! You’re forcing yourself to Steven.”
“Try to hurt my daughter and I’ll be the one to fight you Ria,” mommy said angrily.
Huh? Daughter? I heard it right, didn’t I?
My eyes widened in shock. It took me a long time for everything to sink in. I can’t believe Amanda is mom’s daughter.
