Chapter 25
CASSANDRA
The sunlight shines in through the open window on my face, making me blink my eyes, before opening them wide. Last night’s memories come flashing into my head and I smile, warmth creeping to my cheeks as I throw the blanket over my face.
I can’t believe I made love to Nick last night. How am I going to face him? Oh God! Things are going to be so awkward between us now.
I groan in embarrassment before getting up from bed only to see Nick staring back at me with a grin on his face, and I realize he’s dressed for work already. I blush in embarrassment, throwing the blanket over my face again when I hear him laughing. I feel someone remove the blanket from my body and I see Nick holding it while staring at my naked body.
I jump out of bed, grabbing the blanket from him, before wrapping it round my body, feeling so embarrassed. “You couldn’t wake me up, I feel so embarrassed.” I say.
“Good morning sunshine… Also, what are you covering? I’ve seen everything already.” He laughs in a deep sexy voice, making me blush furiously, before coming close to kiss my forehead.
“Hey.” I mutter and smile again.
“I’m going to work now, I waited till you woke up before leaving because I didn’t want you to wake up to an empty bed.” He says. He looks so cute acting like this.
“You should go so you don’t get to work late. I can manage by myself, I will see you when you get back, and besides, the bed was empty when I woke up.” I grin and he smiles and then kisses my lips shortly.
“Bye.” He says and I wave back at him before he leaves the house. I hear his footsteps down the stairs and soon he is driving out of the compound to his office.
I smile and sigh with content before sitting back down on the bed. I feel so happy. Is this really how love feels like? It’s a really nice feeling and I love feeling this way so much.
My phone rings and I run to pick it, hoping it’s nick calling me again, as I don’t bother to check the Caller ID.
“Cassandra.” My smile fades and my throat starts to get dry. Victoria is calling me again. I have been so occupied with all what has been happening with Nick and I, that I forgot about the situation completely. What do I do now?
“I can hear you.” I snap unconsciously and Victoria chuckles. “I’m sorry.” I say.
“Oh! It’s okay to yell at me sometimes but just know I could kill you anytime baby.” She says with venom and I feel fear grip me.
“So how about my job, is it done yet?” She asks and I gulp down my spit, not answering her because I don’t know what to say to her. “I believe I asked you a question.”
“No… it’s not done yet.” I say.
“Why, what’s keeping me from getting results from you?” She asks.
“I… I can’t kill him.” I answer.
“Oh Cassy, you make me laugh.” She says laughing out which actually makes my blood boil. “Kill Nick or I kill you.” She threatens.
“No.” I say.
“What did you say?” She asks me.
“I’m sorry, I meant to say I can’t kill Nick, I don’t have the courage to kill someone as caring as him, and because I… I just can’t do it.” I say.
“I paid you so you have to do it or else I’ll kill you.”
“Victoria-”

“I j-”
“You had better think of your life and kill Nicholas Bennett or else-”
“Shut the fuck up Victoria! I love Nick!” I blurt out angrily, before realizing what I just said. Holy shit! I’m screwed.
“Love? Did I hear you just say love?” She says but I don’t say anything. “Oh! You’re so funny. So, now you are in love?”
I already said it, might as well take what comes next.
“Yes, I love him.”
“What happened to ‘I can’t ever fall in love?” She hisses angrily.
“Well, I fell in love with him.”
“You won’t get your payment if you do not finish the job.”
“I do not care about your money anymore, I simply cannot kill a man that has done nothing wrong, especially if I love that man with all my heart.”
“Do not double cross me Cassandra Johnson!” She yells, “We had a deal, you gave me your word, you promised, you collected my money.”
“I know that but I change my mind, I cannot kill him, and I will send you all your money.” I say, knowing I’m just bluffing about returning the money to her.
“You know that if you do not kill him, I will kill you and have him killed too, which means he dies either ways?” She cackles devilishly.
“Yes, I know that.” I say.
“And yet you still do not want to kill him and save yourself?” She scoffs.
“No. I’d rather he dies in the hands of someone else than in my hands.
“Well then, you have three days to say goodbye to all your friends and families because before the end of this week, both you and your sweetheart, Nicholas, will be dead and buried beside each other, you just wait and watch me.” She says and the line goes dead.
Oh, shit! I just… What did I just do now? Did I just say that to Victoria? No, no… I just signed Nick’s death contract. I dial her number over again but it doesn’t go through, it says the number I dialed doesn’t exist anymore. Oh my god! I toss my phone to the bed.
“Fuck! Fuck! I messed up.” I chant over and over again, tears streaming down my face as I get up from the bed. What do I do? What the fuck do I now? I’ve messed up really bad.
I run back to the bed to pick my phone back. I dial Julian’s number again as I can’t think of any other person to call or talk to at this moment except her.
“Hey! It’s Julian, leave a message or whatever.” The call goes to voicemail. What the fuck Julian? Where are you now that I need you? I dial her number again and this time, she picks up.
“Hey girl! So, let me guess, you finally had the best sex of your life last night, didn’t you?” She shouts due to the loud music in the background. I am not in the mood for any of this, I have something much more important to discuss with her than the sex I had with Nick last night, even it was the best thing ever. Get your head back in the game Cassandra.
“Julian, I have something really important to talk to you about, I really need to talk to you.” I start to cry, falling to the bed.
“Cassandra, what’s wrong?” She asks alarmingly.
“I just really need to talk to you today please Julian… Fuck… I really need your help.”
“Calm down Cassy, I’m always going to be free anytime you need me, should I come over now?” She asks.
“You don’t even know where I am and I can’t say it over the phone… I will come to the club this night.” I say.
“It’s fine, I will be expecting you Cassy and please do not cry because I’ll get really worried.” She says.
“Thanks, bye.” I say and hang up before tossing the phone to the bed. What do I do? What if telling Julian and Frank will put them in trouble? But I don’t have a choice, I just really need advice on what to do. I plop down on my bed, and start to cry.
