Taming The CEO The Escaping Wife

Chapter 65

Chapter 65

Elgin was heading to the car when he said, “Also, Samson will support your acting career, so don’t be too picky. If you tick him off, there is be no one to hold your hand through Hollywood!”

Shela let out a reluctant “Oh with a hint of discontent.

Just as she was feeling sorry for herself, Letitia breezed past her.

“Hey, what are you up to?” Shela grabbed Letitia. “Where do you think you’re going?”

“Headed home in the car, of course.”

“You, you..”

Letitia chuckled, “What’s with the ‘you, you? I’m Mrs. Ramirez, hitching a ride home with my hubby. That’s just how things roll, right?”

Shela was fuming mad again.

“Mrs. Ramirez, huh? When Mr. Ramirez was out there, soaked to the bone and freezing his butt off with a cold, where were you with all your tender loving care?”

Letitia was caught off-guard for half a second. Elgin was soaking wet? What’s up with that?

Seeing her expression, Shela ramped up her lecturing. “Look at you, you don’t even know. What’s the point of keeping a woman like you around?”

She was about to continue her rant when the car window rolled down, and Elgin’s cool voice interrupted, “Get in the car.”

Letitia did as told

As the car drove away, Shela stared after it, her anger not subsiding one bit.

If Letitia stays by Elgin’s side for much longer… who knows, they might grow affection.

Time to think of a new plan!

Inside the car.

Elgin was flipping through some documents, not even looking up.

Apart from the sound of pages turning, there was also his occasional coughing.

Letitia glanced at him a few times, then took the initiative to ask, “You got a cold?”

Elgin acted as if he didn’t hear her.

“Only been two days since I saw you,” she said, “and the weather’s been pretty good…”

“Shut it, you’re driving me nuts.”

She sat quietly.

Just managing to keep the baby from Elgin’s clutches was a stroke of luck. Letitia didn’t dare to provoke him further. He must have been shook by her determination to rather die than give in.

As the car was nearing Ivory Towers, Elgin asked, “What were you and Shela talking about just now?”

“Huh?”

His tone was impatient, “What, are you deaf or dumb?”

“What could Shela and I possibly talk about? We were arguing, of course. Letitia replied, “We’d hardly be friends, right?”

The more she thought about it, the more she felt something was off.

“Elgin, you wouldn’t be…” She eyed his profile, her expression hesitant.

Elgin turned to meet her gaze, “Spit it out.”

“Forget it. Wouldn’t want to make you mad

His mouth turned down a notch, “Not saying it will piss me off more.”

Letitia sighed, “Alright, I just thought… maybe you want me and Shela to get along? Wanting to keep us both by your side?”

Elgin cough got worse. After coughing, his voice was a bit hoarse, “You think you’re on the same level as Shela?”

Letitia bit her lip. Guess she was overthinking it. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

She had this tiny feeling that Elgin might like her, but it seemed like it was just her wishful thinking.

liking come from? There’s nothing but hatred between them.

The moment Elgina tormenting seemed a tad gentler, she got this illusion… That’s bad.

“So why did you ask what she and I were talking about?” Letitia countered, “We didn’t come to blows, that’s being polite enough.”

Eigin was expressionless, “I heard ‘hubby”,”

“Uh..” Letitia remembered that she indeed called out “hubby’ just to tick Shela off.

“It was your voice, I wasn’t mistaken. Elgin continued, “Call me that again.”

That was the first time Letitia called him ‘hubby’, and the first time Elgin heard it.

Even though he was in the car, the sound still tickled his heart, like something had scratched it lightly. Elgin wanted to hear it again. Up close, a good, clear ‘hubby’.

Letitia’s cheeks felt warm, “Why though?”

This was so weird, Elgin must be the one with a screw loose. With no emotional foundation between them, hating each other, and out of the blue, he wanted her to call him hubby?

“No reason.” Elgin’s face was still cold.

“Then why should I say it” Letitia replied, “I won’t.”

Why should she dance to his tune? She had even shed her fear of death. Besides, it wasn’t the first time Letitia had said no to him.

“Fine.” Elgin pinched the bridge of his nose. “Forget about seeing your mother then.”

*Elgin!”

The car had just stopped at Ivory Towers, and he reached to open the door.

Seeing him about to leave, Letitia hurriedly said, “Alright. Hubby, hubby, hubby! You’re my hubby, is that okay?”

As if afraid Elgin wouldn’t be satisfied, she repeated it several times, but Elgin didn’t look back.

Letitia could only see his back, not his face, but she was sure Elgin had heard her. Unless he’s gone deaf.

Just to be safe, Letitia rolled down the window and shouted, “Dear hubby, I’m going to see my mother, you promised just now, you can’t go back on your word!”

Just when she thought Elgin wouldn’t respond, she heard a faint “Hmm.”

Letitia breathed a sigh of relief.

She went back to the master bedroom to change into fresh clothes, wanting to look neat and fresh for her mother.

That way, her mother would truly believe she was doing well.

When she came downstairs, Elgin was gone, and the butler was there directing the cleaning staff.

“Ma’am,” the butler greeted her as he saw her, “the car is ready, and you can leave whenever you like.”

“Thanks Where’s Elgin?”

“Mr. Ramirez went to the office.”

Letitia nodded, “Why has he been coughing so much? How did he catch a cold?”

The butler looked surprised, “Ma’am, you don’t know?”

“L… should I know something?”

“The night you jumped into the lake, it was Mr. Ramirez who rescued you from the water.

What? He was the one who saved her?

Letitia was stunned.

She thought it was one of the Ivory Towers’ bodyguards who Elgin had ordered to save her

She never imagined he would jump into the lake himself to rescue her.

Elgin’s mind must be a little off-kilter…right?

He’s living high and mighty, with the world at his beck and call. Any mishap could be a massive blow to the Ramirez Group!

We were scared out of our wits,” the butler said, “Thankfully, you and Mr. Ramirez are okay. Otherwise, how on earth would we explain it to Mr. Hawley? After Mr. Ramirez pulled you up, he didn’t say a word, just silently held you in his arms.”

All this was news to Letitia, nobody had told her this.

Even when she got it wrong, thinking he was responsible for losing the baby, he didn’t bother to set the record straight

The butter rambled on, “Mr. Ramirez wouldn’t let anyone else touch you until the ambulance arrived. He carried you to the hospital himself, and then he waited outside the ER all night.”
