Chapter 17
JORDAN
I saw the post last night from Courtney. The fucker must have came by when I dropped her off. Pearson laughed this morning reading it. He patted me on the shoulder when he found me in the common room. “Better luck next time bro.”
“He doesn’t have her as locked down as he thinks he does. She is on the fence. I plan on making her jump on my side.”
I texted her this morning to see if she was still going to the concert with me today. She said she was. That is my in. Proximity. I will keep myself right next to her until she cracks. I want to do this the right way, but I think if this goes on much longer I might have to try another approach.
When I pick her up for the concert, she is dressed in some long shorts and a t-shirt. Nice. At least she isn’t wearing that fucking Miller sweater. Then I see it in her hand. “I don’t think you will need that. It’s pretty warm.”
“It’s just in case.”
I want to grumble, but that will look bad. So I put my arm around her shoulder. “You are going to like this concert. It’s a bunch of local bands. They do it a few times during the summer, I think this is the last one for the year. At least the collection. They each have their own gigs.”
“Do you go to concerts a lot?”
“Some. Not all the time.” I give her a slight squeeze. “So, did Miller invite you to the game on Friday?”
“Yeah, I’m not sure if I will go. I was thinking of dragging Courtney with me.”
“I hope you do. I would like to see you out there cheering.”
“I’ll think about it.”
I already know a few of Miller’s “fans” will be there. Maybe then she will see him for the pig that he is. I have to say that I like this new side of her. The better fitting clothes and such. I could get used to a girl that looked like this on my arm.
We talked about the different bands on the way there. Once we get there we can see a ton of college students congregating towards the makeshift stage. I pull Danny along behind me. She fits her hand in mine and follows along. Throwing down a blanket I put us pretty close to the stage and still far enough away that we don’t get blasted with the speakers.
“They should start up pretty soon. Do you want me to get you a drink?”
She looks up from the ground. She is sitting with her legs tucked to her side. “Yeah, a cola.”
“Got it.” I snap my fingers and head off. I want to get her something harder, but I won’t push it. I want her to lower her guard so that way I can get her a little closer to me. I know Miller isn’t doing it for her. I could give it a shot. Make her feel what she’s been missing.
When I come back I see Pearson sitting on the blanket. He has some blond chick on his lap and he is laughing with Danny. “Here’s your drink.” I move around Pearson and his chick to get closer to Danny. She reaches up and takes her drink from me.
“Thanks.” She barely spares me a glance before she goes back to whatever she was talking to Pearson about. “I’m just saying that there are better ways to do it.”
“Yeah, but are they as fun? You could spend your time researching it in books, but to actually do it. That is a different story.”
“But it’s safer to research it at least. You can get a feel of what you are actually going to do.”
“But it’s not the same as actually doing it.”
“Ok, I will agree to that.”
I take a seat behind her. “What are you guys talking about?”
“Jumping off a high area.” Pearson answers.
“I’m sorry what?”
Pearson laughs. “I was talking to her about going cliff diving with us next week. She said she would rather not. So we were talking about it. She still hasn’t answered me though.”
“If I say I will think about it, will you let me dream of a life where I don’t jump off cliffs.” She smiles at him.
“You know Miller is going to want you to go.”
“Yeah, but we kind of have an agreement. He won’t make me go to things with his friends if I don’t want to. After that dinner, we decided it would be best if I don’t hang out with certain friends.” She scrunches up her nose. I am sure she is thinking of Kelly. How he smoothed that over I have no idea. He certainly has a silver tongue.
Pearson nods. “Yeah, some of them can be pretty intense.” Then he smiles. “But the good news is that she won’t be there. We didn’t invite her. She complains about it, so we all agreed not to invite her.”
The blond smiles up at Pearson. “Who are you talking about babe?”
“Kelly, she doesn’t like Danny. Thinks she stole her man or something.”
The blond smiles. “Yeah, she’s a bit of a bitch. Right up there with Courtney.”This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Danny bites her lip. I look away and Pearson bursts out laughing. “Babe, this is Courtney’s sister.”
The blond’s eyes get wide. She looks at Danny in shock. “Oh, my God I am so sorry. I didn’t know.”
“Don’t worry about it. She can be a bitch sometimes. Especially in the past. I think she is starting to even out a little bit though. What’s your name?”
The blond puts out her hand. “Bridget. So you are the Danny that Kyle was talking about?”
Danny takes her hand. She is blushing. “Yeah, I guess so. I am pretty sure I am the only Danny that he knows.”
Bridget looks at me. “What are you doing here with Jordan then?”
“Kyle didn’t want to come.” Fuck she invited him.
“So, he does know about this?”
“Yeah, we don’t have secrets. Like I know all about Kelly being all over him last night at the party. Only he came home to me, not her.” Danny looks a little cocky about it.
“Wow, that is cool. So, about cliff diving. You don’t have to jump, you can just come and hang out with me. I don’t like to jump either. It’s mainly just the guys showing off. It’s fun to hang out though.”
“Sure, sounds like fun.” The girls seems to be getting along great, but that really isn’t working for my plans. I need Danny alone.
Now I want Pearson and this girl to leave. The girl is dominating all the time with Danny. It’s like I don’t even exist here. Pearson sees me looking at her and laughs. “You are fucked.” He finds this totally funny. He knows I am trying to get with Danny, but Danny seems to only see Kyle. The stupid fucker, doesn’t even know what he has got. She can just make people like her with a smile.
I growl at him. “I’m not out yet.”
