Sweet Subterfuge

Chapter 53

Chapter 53

Many present began to look pained at her plight, but Kevan remained unmoved. Larissa could not help but wonder if Kevan’s heart was made of stone.

“You did not have inappropriate thoughts about me?” he sneered coldly. “I suppose so. Considering all the men you’ve slept with, your taste in men is rather poor.”

Having her hidden past exposed so abruptly, Karin inhaled sharply. Her throat constricted, and it caused her to choke and cough for a while.

The disgust in Kevan’s eyes grew. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

“What are you still standing around for?” He looked at the stunned group. “Hurry up and get her out of here.”

The staff members snapped back to reality and quickly surrounded Karin. They pulled and tugged and got her to let go of Kevan’s leg. They actually ended up picking her up from the floor.

Glaring, Karin shouted while coughing, “Put me down!”

But no one responded to her.

Her cries and shouts kept going until they went downstairs. Even then, it took a long while before her shrill voice faded out completely.

Finally, the only people left on the third floor were Kevan, Larissa, and Vivian.

Kevan let go of Larissa to unbutton his jacket.

“Do you have tuxedos here?” he asked Vivian.

“We do!” Vivian answered quickly. “It’s over there. Let me show you.”

“Wait.” Kevan stripped his jacket off and threw it onto the floor. Then he removed his

tie and shirt.

Vivian stared for a long while before she averted her gaze. Blushing, she said, “Th- The bathroom’s on the s–second floor.”

“Take me there,” Kevan said.

“Y–Yes, sir.” Vivian was so overwhelmed by what she saw that she had trouble

speaking well.

Kevan then instructed Larissa, “Pick a tux for me.”

“Huh?” Larissa had been acting like an idle bystander for so long that the sudden assignment surprised her. But her surprise turned into unwillingness from Kevan’s perspective.

“What, you don’t want to?” His displeasure was clearly shown in the way he dragged out the syllable of the last word.

“No, no!” Larissa hurriedly denied it. “I’m just worried that you won’t like what I’ve picked.”

Kevan relaxed.

“A nonexistent problem.” He threw that behind him casually as he left.

After Kevan followed Vivian downstairs, Larissa wandered around the male section clothes rack, eventually picking a tuxedo that matched Kevan’s typical style. It was a plain, simple suit–somewhat similar to the one he had worn before.

She thought to herself, “This shouldn’t go wrong.”

Soon, Vivian returned and asked her, “Ms. Seymour, have you picked Mr. Rogers‘

outfit?”

“Yes.” Larissa showed her the tuxedo draped over her arm. “Do you think it’s nice?”

Vivian pretended to look it over and said with certainty, “Of course it is.”

With the way Kevan looked, even a lousy rag draped over him would look nice.

“Mr. Rogers said to send the suit over once you’ve picked it. The bathroom is at the end of the corridor on the second floor. If you don’t know where it is exactly, you can ask someone for directions.” Vivian pushed Larissa in the direction of the stairs.”
