Chapter 37
A day after the hearing, Jace talks to Emerald, telling her that he wants to meet their son. Although the judge has already told them that he can visit the boy any time he wants, he still asks his wife’s permission, knowing how young Morgan feels about the decision.
Young Morgan gives Jace their address, but he tells her that he will follow her on her way home, which leaves Emerald with no choice but to agree. In the mansion,
“He’s my Daddy?” Ace asked, not leaving his gaze on Jace, who looked at him with teary eyes. He couldn’t believe that the boy looked exactly like him even though his parents already told him about it and had already seen him in the pictures. His heart was filled with joy, and he couldn’t help but hug his son.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Emerald watched them, and a sudden, unexplainable feeling engulfed her. Seeing how happy her son was made her emotional, and she couldn’t stop her tears from falling down her cheeks, which she wiped immediately. She didn’t want Ace to see her crying because she knew that he would worry about her.
“Have you been a good boy while daddy is not around?” Jace asked after he carried him to sit on his lap.
“Of course, Daddy. And I also took care of Mom.” Ace proudly replied before looking at Emerald, who nodded in agreement.
“How can I be so lucky to have a responsible son?” Jace exclaimed, making little Ace laugh. “Can you tell me about yourself?” Young Higginson asked.
Ace quickly nodded, and as if he were in school, he introduced himself to his father, who listened eagerly and was very attentive to asking the boy whenever something confused him. “Do you want to meet your grandma and grandpa?” Jace asked.
“Ahm, do you think it’s too soon?” Emerald interrupted them. She still remembers the incident in the car store, and she was worried that his parents wouldn’t think anything else about her son because of what Emerose and Merly had told them. Ace looked down with his sad face.
“Ace is already 4,” Jace said,
“I’ll turn five soon,” the boy chimed in. Jace looked at him and smiled before continuing, but he couldn’t because Emerald spoke.
“What did I say about butting in when two adults were talking?”
“I’m sorry, Mom. I forgot.” Ace replied, scratching the back of his head with a smile.
“Emerald, it’s fine,” Jace said. He didn’t want her to scold their son, but young Morgan ignored him.
“Don’t forget it next time.”
“Yes, mommy!” the boy replied enthusiastically, making Emerald shake her head.
“As I said, Ace is already 4 turning 5, and it’s already a long time, Emerald.” Jace continued, “My parents are excited to meet him; you just don’t know how much.”
“Daddy?” Ace exclaimed. He looked so excited, but then he remembered what his mother said: “I’m sorry again, Mommy.”
“It’s alright, I understand,” Emerald replied, smiling. She knew how excited Ace was to meet his grandparents with the expectation of spoiling him. “I will just leave you two here while I change into my house dress,” she added before turning her back to them. Jace followed her with his gaze before he averted his eyes to his son.
“Are they going to like me?” Ace asked his father with hesitation. Jace smiled while nodding.
“Of course, they are very excited to meet you. And I’m sure you’ll be shocked when you see them.”
“Why?”
“It’s a surprise. You’ll know once you see them,” Jace answered, and the boy smiled at him before they hugged. Young Higginson felt an intense emotion he thought only a father could experience, and for him, it was a good thing.
In her bedroom, Emerald’s mind was on Jace and their son. She started to worry that Ace’s growing affection for his father might change his mind and cause him to decide to live with him.
‘No, he’s not going to do that, right?’ she asked herself, ‘Jace will never take my son away from me. He’s not that cruel. Ace is the only important person in my life, and I don’t know what I will do if I ever lose him.’ she added.
Emerald took off her clothes and changed. She looked in the mirror and noticed that she looked bothered. ‘Why wouldn’t I when Jace was threatening my relationship with my son?’ She told herself to justify her feelings. After a deep sigh, she walked out of her bedroom and returned to the living room, where she left Jace and Ace.
“Ace! Ace!” She shouted when she found no one and thought that Jace had taken their son away.
“Ma’am Emerald, they are in the dining area.” Nanny Keng said, and young Morgan rushed to see them.
“What’s wrong, why are you shouting?” Jace asked with a creased forehead while Emerald looked at her son, who was eating happily.
Emerald didn’t answer Jace; she sat beside her son and ate. Young Higginson couldn’t help but watch his wife and son, who were eating happily. ‘If only we were a normal family, I would be the happiest man on earth.’ He thought.
“Dad, can you help me take a bath?” Ace asked. They were back in the living room, and Emerald expected Jace to leave.
“Of course!” Jace replied happily.
“Dear, it’s late. Your dad still has work to do tomorrow.” Emerald butt in.
“No, it’s fine. I’m the boss so I can be late. Plus, I’m a morning person, so no matter what happens, I always wake up early no matter how late I sleep.”
“Yehey!” The boy jumped for joy, and Emerald couldn’t do anything. Although she didn’t like her husband to stay longer, she had no choice since Ace requested and didn’t want to disappoint him.
‘I don’t know what you are planning, Jace. But I’ll make sure you’re not going to succeed. Ace is my son, and I will never let you take him from me.’ Emerald told herself as she watched the father and son walking up the stairs hand in hand.
Under different circumstances, young Morgan thought it would have been better if the scene she was witnessing had happened when she was with Jace. She hoped that he had changed his mind and would not have continued his revenge if he really felt that he already loved her.
