Chapter 984
Denny: "This trip to Havenbrook has been anything but lonely, thanks to you guys. It's been such a blast. Thank you." Jamie was already tearing up, and Henry, who had been eyeing his cantaloupe, now looked at his mom with curiosity. Mia asked, "Jamie, do you have anything you'd like to say to Denny and me?"
Jamie glanced at Mia, then turned to Denny, "Denny, thanks for always helping Mia and me with our studies."
Mia watched both of them closely, trying to gauge Denny's reaction.
Henry, meanwhile, was focused on the bubbling hot pot, itching to dig in. His mom was still deep in conversation, oblivious to the age-old saying, "Eat first, talk later." "Oh, come on~"
Mia handed Henry a cucumber stick to keep him occupied.
"Being around Mia, her happiness just rubs off on me. I'm not much of a talker, and when I first arrived here, I was so homesick I'd cry on the phone with my parents. But spending more time with you and Denny, every day felt full of joy and purpose.
I started looking forward to classes, working things out with you, and asking Denny for help when we got stuck. I found myself excited for each new day," Jamie said, sneaking a glance at Denny's face.
Denny looked into the pot, keeping silent, aware that Jamie's eyes were on him.
Jamie continued, "I know I'm not the brightest, not great at applying what I learn, and I probably won't make it to a top grad school in a big city. But I just want to be close to you guys. I don't mind going to a less prestigious school, just to be near the people I care about." As she spoke, Jamie's tears started flowing, and Henry, as curious as ever, looked at Jamie, then turned to his mom, "Mommy- your friend is crying."
Mia slid a box of tissues over to Denny, who handed a couple to Jamie.
"Jamie, you've got to think more rationally; you're too emotional," Denny said gently. "We've spent a few months together, and it will be sad to part. But once you're home, you'll have other friends around you.
The three of us, I'm in the east, Mia's in the center, and you're in the west. We're a scattered bunch. To be honest, after today, who knows when we'll meet again. It might be years; maybe we'll never meet again. If it's meant to be, great; if not, it's okay. We meet, we hang out for a while, and then we move on, facing reality."
Mia understood Denny's message; he was gently letting Jamie down.
Jamie might not have realized it yet, but Mia knew Denny had thought about the real-world implications. Jamie was an only child, so was Denny, and their parents likely wouldn't be thrilled about their kids marrying someone far away.
Plus, they were both in their twenties, past the age of reckless romance. In a few years, they'd graduate, head home, start working, maybe even start considering arranged dating... It all seemed like a set path.
If they stayed together and didn't break up, family issues might eventually strain their relationship. And if it didn't work out, even their friendship might be on the line.
Right now, it might feel fresh and exciting, but as Denny said, once everyone goes back to their own lives, this youthful fling might fade.
To break the tension, Mia quickly started cooking, "Come on, let's eat already. Stop chatting. Look, my son is drooling over here."
She handed Henry a cherry tomato, which he promptly tossed aside, his eyes glued to the pot.Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
Craving something to eat, he turned around, hugged his mom's neck, and climbed up for a bite, trying to sweet-talk her.
Mia, smiling, cooked some veggies, rinsed them, and then patiently fed her son to satisfy his cravings.
Both Denny and Jamie added some meat to Mia's bowl.
Denny quickly changed the subject, "Mia, you seem pretty skilled. Do you handle all the childcare yourself, without a nanny?" "We don't have a nanny. The housekeeper offers to help, but my son is picky and doesn't let others touch him.
He's the first baby in our family in twenty years so everyone's doting on him. Since he was born, the adults have taken turns holding him. My in-laws, my family, my brother, and even my husband's friends and brothers, they all spoil him. So, he's grown up a bit spoiled, only we can tend to him."
Henry, the subject of this discussion, pretended not to understand, innocently opening his mouth, fumbling at the edge of the bowl for food. Because of the child, Mia had to occasionally take a few steps while eating. "You two go ahead, my son is being a handful again."
After mother and son left, the atmosphere between the two men became silent.
Henry ate a few bites, then started wandering around. When Mia tried to pull him back, he stubbornly
retracted his hand, not letting his et
mom dead him. "Henry, I'm going to
have your dad come and deal with you."
Soon, Mia glanced at the two quiet men and took her son back to her seat.
"It's been a while since I've taken care of a child. I thought he would be like when he was a baby, just needing a bug when he cries. I didn't expect that now he can walk, hẹ won't even let me hold his hand." During her exam period, Miacould only spend a little time with her son each night, with the rest of the care falling to her family and husband.
On her days off, she was usually accompanied by her husband, who often held the child.
Mia looked at her little "meatball," "Henry, don't be naughty, or mommy will scold you."
Henry then stood on the sofa, reaching out to his mom.
As they finished up, Mia picked up her phone to call her husband. Henry, seeing his dad on the screen, hugged the phone, continuously calling out "Daddy."
Andre was in his study, closing his laptop, "Have you finished eating?"
Before he could say more, the phone call ended abruptly.
Andre: "..." What just happened?
In the restaurant, Mia put down her phone, and gave her son's little bottom a couple of smacks, "I hadn't even started talking to your dad. Why did you hang up?" Henry pouted and started crying, not from pain but from feeling wronged.
Shortly after, the phone rang again, and Andre answered, "Hey, Mia?"
The sound of his son's crying could be heard again, "He hung up on you earlier, didn't he?"
"Yeah, I gave him a little scolding. He's feeling wronged now. Honey, I've sent you the address. Can you come pick us up?"
After hanging up the phone, it wasn't long before Andre's phone lit up with a location sent by his wife.
He grabbed his car keys and went out to pick her up.
Upon arrival, Andre went straight to the front desk to settle the bill for his wife before he approached them, "Henry."
"Daddy-" Henry pouted, burying himself into his father's embrace to cuddle and complain in a whimpering tone.
