Chapter 47
Chapter 47
Scarletts P.O.V
The net two weeks are a nightmare. A ghost of realities you wish didn't exist. Oliver disappears. Its like
he knows if you confront him he wont be able to contain his yearning and he'll give in to you. Its what
you've dreamt of for days as you prepare to leave from your internship and soon your first semester.
"Are you sure you don't want to take the chair in the living room?"
You shake your head, palms flat against your thighs as you're on your knees gazing around your
packed up room.
This is it. I'm really leaving for college.
You press the back of your head against your forehead, feeling the clammy warmth of nerve as Oliver
settles in your mind again. You bite your lip, listening to the familiar music or bustling you used to hear
coming from his room, and frown when you're met with nothing.
Your room is nothing but a bed and a bunch of boxes now.
He's really going to leave things like this.
You lower your head into your hands, shaking from the violent sobs that threaten to awaken within you
again. With a steadying breath, you push your urge to cry back and raise your head again, aware your
mother is observing you from your doorway, having returned from carrying another box to the car.
"Scarlett..."
"Mom, Don't"
You hold up your hand to cut her off. You don't want to discuss him. You cant. Its too painful. It feels
better to ignore it. She walks over towards you, and lowers herself onto her knees, grabbing your
shoulders.
"It'll get better. I promise"
She rubs your arms reassuringly, but you don't feel comfort. The voice inside of you swallows any
warmth that she uses to mend your broken heart. The emptiness cant be remedied.
"I-I just want to leave"
"Okay. Honey. We'll go. Kirk and I are going to get you all set up in your dorm that way you can have a
relaxing weekend before your internship starts"
Fucking perfect.
"Great, thanks"
She doesn't react to your monotonous tone. She's used to it. Two week of moping, of staying up late at
night with insomnia, waiting for him to return, only to be a zombie in the morning; completely and utterly
emotionless.
"I'm gonna miss this room"
"It'll be here when you're done with your semester"
I wont be. I'm not coming back during semester break. I'm staying with Bri, but she doesn't need to
know that. Not yet.
You nod and rise to your feet, eyes moving to Kirk as he enters the bedroom.
"You all set?"
You nod, scanning the room one more time, before you nod.
"Okay... I just wanted to give you a heads up that Oliver's home"
"What?"
Your pulse quickens, hammering against your rib cage as those words circle your impending death.
He's here. What the hell is he doing here?
"Why?"
Kirk rubs his hands together before he sighs and shoves them into his pockets. He exchanges glances
with your mother before he addresses you again.
"He's not alone"
If there were ever three words that would shatter your psyche, those are it. They pulsate in your head
crescendo to the face warns with uncontainable anger.
He's not alone?
"Not alone... as in?"
Kirk looks at your mother alarmed, before he clears his throat and your mother steps towards you,
placing a gentle hand on your shoulder which you shake off.
"Answer me"
"Honey-"
"I'm serious. Kirk?"
You smother the desperation in your voice. You slow your words like you're not too concerned, when
deep down inside a war is waging.
"Um, he brought a friend with him. She seems nice"
She?
"A friend, huh?"
"Scar, how about we get going? We have a long trip, and we want to get you settled in"
You puff out a long breath, hoping it'll ease the rage inside of you, but it doesn't. You blink and your
vision is dotted red.
You shove past them, despite both of their protests and ascend the stirs quickly. You're practically
foaming at the mouth when you get to the first floor and hear him and the woman in the kitchen.
He's gonna sit here and invite someone over here... probably someone he's fucking, the day I leave? I
don't know what kind of sick fucking game he's playing but I've had enough!
When you reach the kitchen, your eyes immediately land on the bitch he's invited over, and your
distaste is blatant. NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
You scowl, lip curling in disgust when you watch Oliver grinning as he shows the girl something on his
phone. When his eyes meet yours, his face falls and he pulls his phone away from her.
"Scarlett"
He says your name the way he groaned it a few weeks ago while buried inside your desire to be
wrapped up in those strong arms, and pounded by him, your anger takes control.
"You think this is funny?"
You clench your jaw and cross your arms over your chest.
"You really thought this was a good fucking idea?"
You begin clapping your hands slowly, as the tension builds inside of you the longer he stands there
silently. The girl he's brought is visibly uncomfortable. She shifts in her seat, running her hands down
her ponytail.
"Oliver?"
"Tiffany, don't worry"
Tiffany frowns and stands.
"Obviously there's something going on that I probably shouldn't be a witness to"
"Wait for me downstairs."
She nods and scurries off past you, and it takes everything in you not to grab ahold of that stupid
fucking ponytail and punch her in the face.
I know its not her fault, but fuck them both!!!
"You're fucking classy. No. Good job. The typical Olivier coming into play"
"Oh really?"
"Yep. Cant handle emotions so you have to stick your dick in something to distract you"
He steps forward, malice on his face as you continue.
"Tell me more of how much of a scumbag I am, Scarlett"
"That doesn't even fucking begin to cover it! You were the biggest mistake of my damn life! I'm fucking
glad you ended shit, because I was so clearly stupid enough to fall for all your bullshit, but thank you.
Truly. I should truly fucking thank you from relieving me of the prison that is your dull, emotionally
draining company! You've won after all, Oliver. You got me. And now, you've lost me. Just like you've
always wanted clearly"
You spin around, foot halting to suck in a breath that feels like glass in your lungs, before you move
back towards the hallway. You don't grit your teeth at the voice that begs him to come after you, you
don't shake away the feeling of loss that chills your bones.
Its over.
You let the hopeless thoughts guide you towards the truck waiting outside, and pray they'll be enough
to hold on through the semester. When you get into the car, your mom and Kirk stand on the lawn,
shock and sadness imprinted on their faces having witnessed everything.
I just want to fucking leave!
You nod to the seat and wait as they both slowly approach the vehicle and hop in.
"Lets go"
You cant peel your eyes from the window as he unmistakable draws the blinds up, and peers at you
from them. Kirk pulls the truck away from the curb, and you manage to tear your gaze away from his.
Its truly over.
