Chapter 44. What’s Best
Briana POV
At the sight of Noah, Britney becomes hysterical.
“Noah. Your ex hurt me. She twisted my hand.” She cried and clung to him.
I rolled my eyes at them.
Noah brushed her off, and I smirked because her face contorted.
The tears brimming her eyes had been sucked back up by her tear glands.
Then, I shifted my gaze at Noah, challenging him to defend her from me.
Our gazes met, and I arched my brows.
Britney tried to steal his attention by wailing so loudly. It was so ear–piercing that I finally had enough.
I decided I didn’t want to be involved in their drama. Noah and I were done.
I shrugged and smirked, daring him to believe her, and then I turned around to let myself out, but at this time, my brothers came barreling through the door.
They looked at Britney’s face, Noah’s, and then me.
“Did she hurt you?” Charles, my eldest brother, asked.
Before I could reply, all my four brothers surrounded me, shielding me from Britney and Noah.
“That b*tch hurt me. I only told her to get away from Noah. She’s married, and Noah’s engaged, but she kept trying to snag his attention.” Britney’s accusation grated on my nerves.
So, now it was my fault.
Angrily, I shoved my brothers aside to march up to her, but Rowan held me back.
“Easy, sis.” He leaned in to whisper.
“Shows over folks. Let’s go.” I told my brothers and led the way out, leaving Noah and Britney inside that restroom.
Whatever they wanted to do inside, I don’t care anymore.
I walked the comder in angry strides when Marcus reached me
He slung his arm around my shoulders My steps slowed, and I leaned my head back on his shoulder,
“What happened?” He whispered in my ear.
“I’ll tell you, but not here,” I whispered back.
We walked in the corridor without talking. Charles was in the lead, Marcus and I followed him while Flint and Rowan took the back.
No one talked until Noah broke our silence,
“Briana, wait!” He called out.
My body stiffened. Marcus squeezed my right shoulder to assure me he had my back.
The five of us stopped and turned around to face Noah, who had this clueless expression on his face.
“What?” I asked angrily.
Noting the anger in my tone, Noah looked like he was jolted to the present. He shook his head and looked me in the eye.
“Whatever Britney said, it was not true. We are done. The engagement is off. He explained rather hurriedly like he was afraid I would walk out on him.
“You don’t have to explain anything to me, Noah. It’s none of my business.”
“But I wanted you to make it your business.” He cried out, utterly frustrated.
There was an urgency in his expression that I could not fathom.
Marcus intervened. “Apologies, Mr. Hunter. That would be asking a lot from Briana. I suggest you go home and sleep through this.”
Noah nodded. I saw his shoulders sagged.
“Okay. But I will be calling you at your office tomorrow. We need to talk.”
I bit my lip. A part of me recoiled at the idea of meeting Noah again.
Truth be told, I am also having second thoughts about introducing the triplets to him If Britney will be part of the deal.
