Julia was busy preparing for the Harrisons‘ arrival.
“The Harrisons are coming over for their first visit, Mills. Why are you dressed like that?”
“Vera, we need more fruits! The fruits aren’t enough.”
“Mills, hurry up and change. Those jeans aren’t suitable Put on a dress!”
“Listen to your mother.” Terrence nudged Millie, who was wearing only a white shirt and jeans, to change her clothes. He didn’t think her outfit was right for the occasion.
Millie looked at herself in the mirror with a frown. She couldn’t understand why her outfit was considered inappropriate. In her eyes, she looked great no matter what she wore.
As Millie was about to go upstairs to change, a voice came from the door. “Madam Julia, the Harrisons are here!”
Julia hurriedly took Millie by the arm and led her out of the house. There’s no time to change. They’re already here.”
Millie was surprised. Terrence and Julia usually weren’t so anxious. about welcoming guests. It seemed like the Harrisons‘ visit was particularly important to them.
She wondered if they had misinterpreted something. Perhaps they assumed the Harrisons were visiting for a marriage proposal
because she and Simon had been getting along so well the day before.
“Mom, they’re here to thank me for saving Mr. Patrick’s life,” Millie reminded Julia.
“It’s just an excuse. You silly goose!” Julia snapped while glaring at
her.
“Mom, it’s true.”
Julia didn’t mince words. She pushed open the door and got straight to the point. “It’s just an excuse. Simon has feelings for you!”
They spotted Simon and Patrick standing in the doorway when the door swung open. With them were a butler and two assistants, each carrying a bunch of stuff.
“Hey, Patrick!” Terrence said with a grin. He went up to Patrick and hugged him.
Millie nodded at Simon and said, “Hi, Mr. Simon.”
Simon’s face brightened when he saw Millie. He remarked, “You look amazing today.”
Millie typically dressed formally or wore dresses, but today she looked more youthful and innocent, resembling a college student.
“Mom, guess what? Mr. Simon said I look amazing!” Millie boasted to Julia excitedly.
Julia struggled to smile. She glanced at Patrick and responded cautiously, “Can’t you see he’s just being polite?”
“Madam Julia, I assure you, this isn’t mere politeness. I truly think that Ms. Caldwell looks amazing today, and her attire suits her perfectly. Comfort is paramount when it comes to clothing, wouldn’t you say?” Patrick responded with a gentle smile. His words flowed gracefully.
Julia smiled in response. She was impressed by Patrick’s eloquence.
“Please, come in.” Julia gestured toward the interior. Terrence guided Patrick into the house with Julia trailing behind. Millie entered beside Simon. She offered him a smile and said, “Thank you.
Simon arched an eyebrow in response. “You’re welcome.”
“Terrence, I’m sorry for dropping in unexpectedly,” Patrick said. He sounded a bit apologetic. “Millie saved me at the banquet recently, so I wanted to come by and thank you in person!”
The butler and assistants left once they had placed the gifts down.
“Patrick, don’t you think you’re being too formal?” Terrence gave Patrick a friendly pat on the shoulder. Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
After Millie served Patrick and Simon coffee, she stood next to Julia and said, “Mr. Patrick, I’ve already told Mr. Simon. What I did was just a small gesture. You don’t have to be so polite!”
Patrick gestured at Millie before praising her, “You, young lady, are truly remarkable! What you did in that situation took a lot of
courage!”
Millie realized that Patrick was talking about the incident with the
pen.
“Yeah, she’s pretty brave,” Terrence said as he looked at Millie with pride.
“It’s impressive that a lady can be so brave,” Patrick continued in praise of Millie. “I’ve arranged for a private room. Let’s dine together!”
Terrence quickly jumped in, “Look at you. You came to visit, and yet you’re the one doing the treating? I’ve taken care of everything!”
