Wanke’s P. O. V

Taking the sliced meat I put in my mouth longing for the flavours, it’s been a while having a good appetite. Placing the chopsticks on the table I close my eyes inhaling a deep breath I lift my eyelids to face both of them who are seated opposite to me their eyes never leaving me which makes me awkward to eat.

Yesterday Feng Lei hurried back after the exam informing me that the people of Wen Kingdom are looking for me therefore we moved to a house in the woods which is Henyu’s uncle’s place, their holiday to the village made the situation easier.

“Alright, ask me,” I lean forward expecting a list of questions from them.

“What?,” HenYu asks curiously.

“Ask what you all have in your mind. I really cannot eat when you both are staring at me,”

“What questions?,” ChengLi smiles.

“Fine,” I sneer and continue to eat ignoring their stare.

“I still cannot believe that you are girl,” ChengLi blurts examining me “How is it possible?.”

“Why is it impossible?,” I ask not stopping my actions of filling my empty stomach, why are they so shocked in the fact that I’m a female that they have no questions asking Why I’m doing this “I’m glad to know that you’ll don’t have many questions, when Feng Lei found out he questioned me eternally.”

“Our questions were answered by him,” ChengLi takes a sip of the liquor in his cup moving his head forward to Feng Lei’s direction indicating him and I turn to my left to face him.

“They had numerous questions,” Feng Lei raises a brow at me questionably “Did I question more?,” I look away hiding my smile when HenYu interrupts.

“Woah, my idol is a female,” HenYu utters with a wide smile on his face “I should have known it earlier,”

“I know right,” ChengLi lets out a sigh of regret dramatically “We should have found when she dressed as a girl”

“Hmmm, I had a doubt but now it’s cleared,”

“A doubt,” I almost choke passing a glance at Feng Lei who repeated the same word with me in unison.

“How do you know?,” Feng Lei leans forward eagerly his small eyes below his furrowed eyebrows digging into HenYu making him to gulp down and look away.

“I saw nothing,” he brushes off the topic thinking of the scene when he tried to help WanKe who drowned. Same as ChengLi he was shocked about Wanke’s identity but he was surprised and kind of proud of taking WanKe as his idol who is stronger than man.

“What did you see?,” Feng Lei questions again glaring at HenYu.

“You dragged us out before we could see anything,” ChengLi blurts.

“HenYu?,” ChengLi turns his head to the right “Did you see something earlier?,” He asks knitting his eyebrows.

“Stop it,” I hit on the table as the topic is driving me insane “Stop with that something and anything business,” I roar throwing daggers at them with my deathly glare. The surrounding captures silence the very next second they begin to eat like I just shouted to the walls around us. We continue to eat as the environment turns calm where the noises of our movements only could be heard along with the sound of the nature outside in the woods.

“Who’s that?,” Feng Lei asks, our actions stop when the sound of the door knocking echoes in the empty hall.

“Is it Ah Xiang?,” I face ChengLi who is curious as us.

“Maybe, but she left a long time back after giving the food,” getting up he looks down at HenYu “Are your relatives back?”

“No, they will be back after a month, let me check,” getting up he runs to the door rubbing his palms against each other for the cold as it will be snowing the following days.

“Why are you back?,” HenYu moves to a side leaving space for Xiang to enter, she walks in and he follows her behind.

“Sis Cheng is missing,” she stutters as soon as she enters the room.

“What?,” ChengLi steps forward immediately, getting up Feng Lei and I hop forward.

“This was left in her dressing room,” she hands over the letter to ChengLi.

Taking the paper from her, he passes us a glance and unfolds the paper he grooves while reading, reading his expression I snatch the paper from his hold each word hitting me.

‘It won’t take a long time for me to end her life and you know how things can be covered up. Come back to the mansion my so called son.’

Why is he dragging others into this?

“How does he know about sis Chen,” ChengLi asks softly.

“JiangYi!,” my answer comes out quickly, it has to be him because I save Ms Cheng from him.

“It can’t,” Feng Lei explains facing each one us “He is in house arrest as I handed over his fake documents to the higher authority and they are researching on it,”

“I should go,” I step forward but before I could proceed I turn around when he holds my arm.

“You are not cured yet,” Feng Lei states his eyes looking straight at mine, gazing away he faces HenYu.

“Let’s leave them alone,” HenYu orders, leaving us alone they walk out of the room closing the door.

“You should not go,” Feng Lei declares his grip getting tighter.

“I should,” I snap, I don’t want anyone else to put their life at stake because of me, “I don’t want anyone else to be hurt,” my voice breaks, mental strength has always been my advantage but for the past few days my strength has been missing, I feel broke instantly as everything began to scroll up continuously leaving no break in between.

“I don’t want you to be hurt,” his voice comes in a way if begging, I know that he is perturbed by me but I have no choice, I’m done letting others down because of me.

“Feng Lei,” I face him looking into his eyes my lips twitches up to a slight smile “I love you,” I finally say the three words which has always been in mind while I was with him or without him. I feel his grip on my arm loosen as his eyes reads me his expression showing that he is surprised.

Everything, everything has been complicated and now I’m going to end it for good. Right now I don’t even care if he exposes me to the higher authority, about me getting into the imperial academy as long as I slit his throat with my own hands. All his lies won’t be buried for forever I’m sure that it will come out one day. I did hesitate to confess Feng Lei as I have no idea what will happen next as that bastard can do anything but I still want to protect him the same way he wants to protect me.

I didn’t want to keep him waiting , I just want to let him know what I feel about him so that I will have no regret even if I die.

I need to go right now to keep others safe as I’m not ready to lose anyone else.

My eyes widens when Feng Lei pulls me to a hug abruptly, I feel his five fingers at the back of my head he presses my head over his hard chest moving his head upwards he places his chin on my head “Do you know how I’m feeling right now?,” His tone tells me that he is smiling even though that I cannot see it.

“I….,” I move my head a little backwards trying to look up, but before I could do it I feel the hard hit at the side of my neck before I could react I feel darkness beginning to overtake me, my mind black outs the very second.

“I’m sorry,” is the last words which faded in my ears.
