Chapter 816
Liz felt a sudden pang of guilt and immediately turned to press the call button. Meanwhile, Remington was already cradling the baby, his cold gaze fixed on Stella. "Is this what you call caring for the child? Since you've been here, have you even once asked about the baby's condition?"
Stella was taken aback, her lips parting as she tried to defend herself. But confronted with Remington's sharp, cutting gaze, she found herself speechless. Taking a step toward Liz, Remington put some distance between him and Stella, his voice cold once more. "I'm not blind or heartless. Save your pitiful tricks!" "It's not like that, Remington, I really..." Stella's panic rose, and she took a step forward, trying to get closer.
Remington's eyes hardened. "Stay back! Your smell is overwhelming us."
Stella had only been to the bar, having a single drink before receiving Anna's call. She instinctively sniffed at herself, and though there was a hint of alcohol, it wasn't overwhelming. However, Remington's disdainful look and his step back made her feel like an outright drunkard.
The baby in Remington's arms seemed to understand his words, giving Stella a glance before turning his little head to bury it in Remington's chest.
Remington tensed up. It was his first time holding such a small, delicate baby. When he first caught the baby and the baby smiled at him, he felt inexplicably stunned. This also caused a slight delay in his reaction, nearly leading Liz to misinterpret his attitude and leave. "Nurse, the baby's IV needle has fallen out. Can you please check on it?" Just as Stella was about to crumble under Remington's piercing gaze, the nurse hurried over, and Liz urgently explained the situation.
Stella breathed a sigh of relief,
quietly stepping aside. The baby was well-behaved, not crying or fussing as the nurse reinserted the needle his dark eyes shifting back and forth between Liz and Remington. He even waved his little hands at Liz, babbling as if calling out to be held. So adorable. But Liz ultimately didn't
step forward to hold him again.
After the nurse left, Liz also picked up her bag. Remington, clearly not keen on staying alone with Stella, placed the baby back in the hospital bed and stood up as well.
Seeing this, Stella, her eyes reddening, said, "Remington, although Ron's fever has subsided, I'm worried it might come back. Could you stay with us?"
Remington frowned, but before he could refuse, Liz looked at him. "You stay and take care of the child." She didn't trust Stella with the child. She felt an inexplicable softness for the little one. After a moment's hesitation, Remington nodded, "Alright, go get some rest."
Without another word, Liz turned and left. Behind her, the baby on the hospital bed seemed to be pleading for her to stay, suddenly kicking his legs and starting to cry again. Liz paused momentarily but didn't turn back. © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
She had indeed formed a bond with the baby, but he was a member of the West family. If her Daisy was indeed harmed by the West family, even though the infant was
innocent, Liz couldn't afford to invest too much emotion.
Remington gently patted the baby, watching Liz's disappearing figure. Oddly, he felt a sense of desolation, as if he had been abandoned by that heartless woman.
"Remington, look, Ron stops crying the moment you pat him. He really seems to like you a lot," Stella's soft, surprised voice broke through Remington's thoughts.
