Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption

Chapter 606

\"What's that supposed to mean?\"

\"You know, you don't have to go to city hall to get a divorce. If you want a divorce, get up and eat something decent!\"

Remington's voice was deep, his face expressionless.

He towered by the hospital bed, looking down at her, filled with self-mockery.

He never thought, one day, he would have to use divorce as a means to get her to eat.

Lizetta locked eyes with Remington, standing her ground.

For the first time today, she really looked at him, without disdain.

Remington's breath hitched, his back tensing involuntarily.

Yet, he couldn't discern any emotion from her gaze.

The affection, joy, and even the resentment he had just provoked seemed all gone.

He felt an emptiness inside, his lips moved slightly, \"I didn't mean to pressure you, but you're torturing yourself, your body can't take this...\" Since the accident, she hadn't eaten anything, surviving solely on IV nutrition.

This couldn't go on.

Lizetta's lips curled into a mocking smile, \"Your devotion is laughable.\"

He had clearly changed clothes, wearing a charcoal gray shirt with a plaid tie, his stubble neatly shaved, giving him a sharp jawline.

He smelled of minty fresh body wash, and aside from the bloodshot in his eyes, he looked just as cold and noble as Mr. Dashiell always did. Losing Daisy, for him, seemed to be just a fleeting moment.

That's why he thought she could eat now.

Thinking it was for her own good, but it was just to ease his own guilt.

What a cold-hearted man!

\"Think whatever you want. If you want a divorce, get up and eat.\" Remington's voice was calm but brooked no argument.

Lizetta eventually propped herself up, and Remington leaned over to help her, then called someone in a deep voice.

Soon, a servant came in, laying out a nutritious meal in front of Lizetta.

Remington had consulted a

and a naturopath , coming up with a menet

that was as good as medicinal.

Lizetta grabbed a spoon, her wrist weak, her appetite gone.

A large hand took the soup bowl from in front of her, and the next second, the broth was at her lips.

"You're too weak, let me feed you.\"

Lizetta looked up, \"Looking at you makes me want to vomit.\"

Remington's handsome face darkened instantly, the spoon tapping heavily against the bowl.

His jaw clenched, locking eyes with her.

His eyes were red and turbulent, but her gaze was like stagnant water.

After a moment, Remington stood up from the bed, coldly instructing the servant nearby.

"You take care of her meal!\"

The servant jumped, cautiously moving forward to take the soup bowl from Remington's hands. Lizetta didn't want to trouble the servant, and she also wanted to get the divorce over with.

Even though she had no appetite, she cooperated and ate.

After the leftover meal was taken away, Lizetta turned to Remington, who was standing by the window. \"Happy now?\"

She asked, her tone negotiation-like.

Remington's lips were tightly pursed, understanding her intention, and made a call.

In Zion City, Remington indeed had privileges.

The city hall staff arrived quickly,

and in less than ten minutes, Lizetta had taken the divorce photo and completed the divorce proceedings without leaving the hospital bed. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

Getting a divorce certificate this easily made her previous efforts to visit the city hall seem so foolish.

Holding the divorce certificate, Lizetta's laugh was mocking yet somber.

Looking up, Remington, having escorted the staffer out, came back in.

Holding the divorce certificate,

Lizetta said, \"The child is gone, the marriage is over, what else do you think

you can hold over me? If there's nothing else, please leave. I don't want to see you again."
