Chapter 72
Martin took the coat carefully, almost holding his breath in the process. He knew there wouldn't be a happy ending today for the man who was trying to court Jessica. Everyone consciously stepped aside when Trevor came forward, leaving the playing field to only Trevor and Rafe.
Jessica gulped behind the crowd. "What is Trevor doing?"
"Mr. Gulliford, please serve."
Rafe politely handed the ball to Trevor. After all, he was dubbed the volleyball prince in the company.
Although Trevor was of noble status, it should not be a slip of the tongue when he said the winner would get his bonus increased tenfold.
Rafe's tactic was to let Trevor win for the first few rounds before he made a comeback. In that case, Trevor would save his face in front of the employees. And when Rafe won, he would either tell everyone that he was being lucky or Trevor was being kind to him. "All right."
Trevor took the ball and spun it with his slender fingers. He turned around and glimpsed at Jessica who was standing behind the crowd.
Then, he threw the ball lightly in the air and smashed it.
The ball charged forward so fast that Rafe barely had the time to react. The volleyball directly hit him in the face, knocking him to the ground. Bewildered, everyone exchanged gossip.
"Is Rafe pulling his punch on Mr. Gulliford, or is Mr. Gulliford more adept in volleyball?"
"Do you have to ask? It must be Rafe who's being lenient to Mr. Gulliford. After all, Rafe is the volleyball prince in our company."
"But do you think you guys can catch Mr. Gulliford's ball?"
"This..."Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
They looked at each other and fell silent.
Trevor squinted at Rafe who fell to the ground, and asked, "Shall we continue?"
Rafe covered his face and stood up. Then, he patted the dust off his body, feeling a little embarrassed.
He was thinking that he should go easy on Trevor, never did he expect that the latter would charge so fiercely.
He had underestimated Trevor.
Rafe tossed the volleyball into the air, raised his arm, and slammed the ball close to the side.
It was an impressive kick-off. Just when everyone thought that Trevor would lose this time, he dashed a few steps sideways and caught the ball. Then, with his full force, he smashed the ball and charged again.
Rafe stepped forward to catch it
with his wrist, but the ball hit hime
with a powerful impact. He tried to change its track but the ball
bounced off him.
Two out of three, Rafe lost the game.
"Mr. Gulliford is so handsome!"
Trevor's fans at the side could no longer hold back their excitement and clamored.
"You're awesome, Mr. Gulliford!"
Trevor smiled and left the court. He took the coat from Martin and glanced around to find Jessica but to no avail. "She's no longer here? When did she leave?" he mused.
"Mr. Gulliford, your skill in volleyball is outstanding. We're all amazed."
Rafe came up to flatter him, but Trevor ignored him, searching frantically for the figure in the crowd.
"Where is she?"
Trevor searched for a long time before he finally found Jessica. It turned out that she was peeking at Bennett.
Jessica looked at the kid not far away, who was so involved in the medical book. She felt a wave of pride burst within her.
All of her six children had their own ideas and hobbies, and every one of them was considered the best of the best among their peers. However, she owed Bennett the most.
Out of no choice, she was forced leave
years alone in Horington three
years ago. "Bennett, you will
understand me, right?" she secretly prayed.
A straight and slender figure stood behind her for a long time, but she hadn't noticed it because she was too absorbed in her own thoughts. Trevor stood behind her as tears gradually filled his eyes.
