Chapter 40
"Melissa, you're so good at acting, huh? If I'd known that you have such impressive skills, I would've asked your mom to send you to the entertainment industry." Jessica sneered, lowering her eyes to look at the trail of blood on Melissa's forehead. There weren't any tinges of sympathy on her face. "Jessica, I know that you've misunderstood me. Back then, I've always asked you to treat Sammie better. However, you hated her so much as you thought she would stop you from marrying Zachary."
As soon as Melissa finished her words, Trevor furrowed his brows. Zachary Zimmerman's name hit him so hard that it ignited a fire in his heart. "Jessica, you're such a cruel woman."
Mr. Gulliford, didn't you already know that I'm a cruel, heartless woman when you sent me away from Horington five years ago?" Jessica could no longer suppress the anger in her heart anymore. "Cruel? Isn't that the word he's been using to describe me? What's the point for him to repeat it again now? she mused internally.
The next moment, six adorable faces appeared in her mind, washing off her determination and confidence
to retort.
After heaving a sigh, she lowered her voice and said, "I didn't push her. Trevor, it wasn't me."
She didn't want to anger Trevor. After all, she was afraid that he would destroy Jessica's body.
"Trevor, Jessica got angry after I mentioned Sammie and Zachary. It's all my fault. I'm sorry..."
Melissa buried her head in Trevor's chest. Tears, as clear as crystal, rolled down the corners of her eyes.
"I'll take you to the doctor." Standing up, Trevor wrapped his arms around her. Then, he lifted his eye to glance at Jessica in disdain before leaving the living room.
Jessica stood still, supporting herself by holding the handrail on the stairs.
Trevor's gaze was too sharp that it pierced through her heart. Feeling heartbroken, she almost lost her balance.
Trevor has never even liked me, hasn't he? For some reason, he thinks that I have an affair with Zachary.
He even thinks that I've killed Sammie for Zachary. It has been five years. As expected, Trevor is still the same. The way he looked at me just now was exactly the same as how he looked at me when he didn't believe my words. It's funny how he believes everyone in the world, except for me... Jessica thought.
Turning around, Jessica curled her lips into a self-deprecating smirk and strode into the bedroom.
As soon as she lay down on the phone, her phone rang. It was a call from Monica.
"Jessica, something bad has happened to Bennett! Hurry up and come to the hospital!"
Jessica stood up abruptly. She was completely dumbfounded.
"I have to go out now!" she said in her heart.
Immediately, she wrote a note and left it in the bedroom. Ignoring the guards, she rushed out of the house no matter how they stopped her.
When Jessica arrived at the hospital, Bennett had entered the emergency room.
"Jessica, you're finally here. The doctor said that
Bennett is diagnosed with leukemia due to preterm labor. He needs a bone marrow transplantation as soon as possible!" Monica approached Jessica with reddened eyes.
She raised the kids personally, and all of them treated her as their grandmother. Therefore, they mattered a lot to her.
"Bone marrow transplantation? Can he use mine? I'm his mother. My bone marrow should be a matching one, right?" Jessica had the urge to cry, yet no tears were coming out of her eyes. No words could describe how miserable she felt.
"My son's so adorable. I've just come back for a few days, and I don't even have the time to embrace him properly in my heart yet. No! I can't lose him like that!
I have sufficient money for his treatment," she said under her breath.
Instantly, she reached out to shove the 600 thousand dollars she had earned in those few days into Monica's hand. Jessica would rather spend the rest of her life living under Trevor's abuse than let Bennett die.
Meanwhile, a doctor walked over with his mask. "Who's Bennett Queen's family member?"
"I am. Doctor, how's my son's condition?" "Your son's blood type is Rh-negative, which is very rare. Which parent of his has the same blood type? We need to undergo the bone marrow transplantation surgery immediately. Bennett's condition is really critical now." "Rh-negative..." Jessica mumbled in a daze.
She was not that blood type. That meant that Trevor was the one who had Rh-negative blood.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Just then, her phone rang. She took out her phone to glance at it. Coincidentally, it was Trevor calling.
She swiped her long, slender finger on the phone screen to pick up the call. Before Trevor could say anything, she started pleading, "Trevor, please help me. Our..."
