Chapter 114
"Jessica..." Trevor pretended not to know anything. "I love you. Do you believe in love at first sight?"
He was speaking the truth. He did, in fact, fall in love with Jessica at first sight.
The elegant and reserved woman appeared in his life many years ago like a shooting star.
And he had never seen a woman as calm and sophisticated as her. She was graceful and dignified in every way she moved.
With that, he fell deeply in love with her. His courtship for her was well-known in Horington too.
Trevor spent so much money just to see Jessica smile. Too bad, in the end, the woman didn't spare him a smile at all.
He knew Old Mr. Gulliford would never know how much he liked Jessica. Nor does the Jackson family and the Queen family.
The two families had only treated their union as a marriage of convenience. They thought of it as a way to boost the success of their family businesses.
Rumors even came up that he was after Jessica because of the marriage of convenience.
Only Trevor knew she so enchanted him that he couldn't extricate himself from her charm.
His infatuation was so intoxicating that he went after her without any second thoughts.
Little did he expect that he would be ignorant enough to ignore that she was set up when that incident happened.
However, he tried his best to salvage the situation after that. He investigated the matter several times over, but there was not a single time that the evidence was on Jessica's side.
Jessica's breath was slow as the pain in her heart spread throughout her body. "Please don't joke around with me. I'm not worthy enough to be with you."
Why? Why did he say he loves me after I suffered for five years in a warzone? Why did he say he loves me after my life ended for him once? Why does he say that now that my heart has been hurt by him again and again? Why did Trevor make me wait for so long? Why did he wait for all of my love to vanish before saying so? I've waited so long that I nearly forgot who I am. How am I supposed to endure the love that he has for me? Jessica pondered.
"No." Trevor shook his head while his fingers trembled. "I'm not worthy enough to be with you. I'm the unworthy one."
He turned his head away as tears welled up in his eyes.
The room went silent because both of them had turned their heads away. They didn't dare to look at one another for fear of letting the opposite party notice their eyes watering.
A few seconds later, tears rolled down Trevor's face as he could no longer hold them back anymore. He decided to stand up and walk out of the room.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
He did so because he was afraid it would dawn on Jessica that he had found out about her identity. He was terrified that she would escape from his side again.
He feared never seeing her again.
Every second was tormenting for Trevor without Jessica beside him.
He has led a trance-like life for the past three years. If it weren't for Bennett, Trevor probably would have died.
Besides that, if he didn't run into Faye in the airport that day, Trevor would have died in the war zone while searching for her.
He remembered feeling a deep fear
within him back then, for he knew a kind-hearted person like Jessica
would be in heaven in the afterlifet
while a wicked person like him would have gone down to hell after death. Trevor was terrified that he would never see her again.
He was filled with immense joy when he found out that Faye was back and that Jessica was still alive.
Since Jessica was still around, the world was heaven to him.
Until today, he could no longer hold back his tears when Jessica said she was not worthy of him.
To him, it had always been him that was unworthy and unqualified to be with her. Not the other way around.
He hid in the restroom for a few moments to clean up his appearance.
Albeit doing so, his reddened eyes were still apparent.
"Are you okay, Mr. Gulliford?" Monica asked worriedly.
"No worries." Trevor waved his hands dismissively. He headed toward the main bedroom's entrance, trying to imagine Jessica's face, who was inside the room. He had to wait until his swollen eyes subsided before heading into the room.
"Mr. Gulliford, there's a phone call from Old Mr Gulliford. He wants you to go back tonight," Martin reported in a low voice as he stepped toward Trevor He, too, was afraid of

"I'm not going. Tell him I'm busy," Trevor rejected without any hesitation.
