Chapter 976

After Vera finished speaking, she looked at Joe, hoping for a response.

His fingers were long and well–defined. As she gripped his hand, the sensation traveling from her fingers made her heart flutter.

Suddenly, Joe yanked his hand away.

His voice turned icy as he said, “People need to look forward.”

Vera was stunned. Her face went pale. Joe’s words and actions felt like a slap in the face, taking her by surprise and wounding her pride.

She looked down at the ring on her fingers and then raised her hand to gently touch it. The sense of confusion and panic she felt began to calm.

“Yeah, people do need to move forward. Some things happened and existed. They can only be treated as the past, but they can’t be forgotten,” Vera said with a self–deprecating smile.

Under the evening breeze and dim light, she seemed to be feeling a profound

sense of fragmentation.

Seeing this, Joe furrowed his brows and glanced at Vera. For some reason, his previously agitated mood suddenly calmed. He even thought about the past

years.

He wasn’t as strategic or commanding back then as he was now, and there were moments when he felt adrift.

“Why the sudden decision to return to Jipsburg?” he asked.

Vera’s eyes lit up with surprise. She noticed Joe’s sudden change in attitude.

They had met several times since her return, but Joe had always been indifferent to her presence. He showed no interest in her return. But now, he was asking about it.

Looking down at her ring with joy, she suddenly realized she should have asked Molly for help earlier.

“Maybe I just realized that someone is waiting for me in Jipsburg, and I can’t waste time staying abroad any longer.”

Joe paused his smoking. He fell silent.

Seeing Joe’s silence, Vera felt a pang of disappointment but tried to stay calm. She looked at Joe and asked, “Do you like Skylar?”

After asking, she held her breath nervously.

Suddenly, she realized she was afraid of Joe’s response.

Joe finished his cigarette and snuffed it out in the ashtray beside him. He didn’t respond to Vera. Instead, he said coldly, “It’s getting late. I’m heading back to my room.”

Joe left immediately after he finished speaking. By the time Vera processed what had happened, Joe was already far away.

She bit her lip in frustration. But then she reconsidered; there was no need to be upset. The fact that he didn’t answer meant that Joe probably didn’t like Skylar.

Just as she thought, Joe’s closeness to Skylar was likely due to some underhanded methods Skylar used. But in front of her, Joe had revealed his true thoughts because he hadn’t been further influenced by Skylar due to the

ring.

Vera was even more convinced that flying ten hours to Fachington was the right decision. She wouldn’t let Skylar take Joe away.

The next day, neither of them made a point to wake up early. They slept in until they woke up naturally.

After breakfast, Skylar went with Joe to the location for the wedding photoshoot. Once they arrived, she began choosing her wedding dress.

Before coming to Fachington, the shop’s designer had already sent Skylar pictures of several wedding dresses.

However, it was hard to tell from the photos which ones she liked the most, so she picked a few to try on in person before making the final decision at the location.

him perfectly, and the designer’s vision came to life with Joe showcasing it to perfection.

While the makeup artist worked on Skylar, they couldn’t stop complimenting her flawless skin and striking features.

When it was time for the shoot, Skylar and Joe stood together in front of the castle. They looked every bit like a prince and princess.

After the first picture was taken, the photographer, Mike Salazar, showed them the result.

He said, “You two don’t even need any retouching. The photos are perfect as they are.”
