Vera hadn’t planned to skirt around the topic. She watched for Skylar’s reaction after speaking.

Skylar felt like she’d heard this before somewhere. Annie had said something along those lines. Molly had even offered her a cheque to get her to divorce Joe.

“Why should I be the one to propose a divorce? You should be confident that you’ll be able to get him to divorce me of your own accord. After all, you two have feelings for each other and have waited for one another for years, Skylar asked her mockingly.

If Joe had asked her for a divorce, she would’ve agreed in a heartbeat. Clinging on to her to get her to change her mind wouldn’t get Vera very far.

This made Vera’s expression sour. She couldn’t tell Joe all of this. Vera was a proud woman. Even though Joe’s marriage bothered her greatly, she couldn’t tell anyone about it.

Many people in Jipsburg thought that Joe was waiting for her and that she would be the only woman who would become Joe’s wife. Vera believed so too. She had to set things back on their original path.

From the beginning, Vera had thought that Joe was trying to piss her off. He wouldn’t have married Skylar otherwise. Even though she held that belief, Skylar didn’t share it. Perhaps she was fantasizing about how Joe loved her.

Vera took a deep breath and said, “I asked you to bring the divorce up because I didn’t want Joe to feel guilty over this.”

“Your plans are very well thought out, Ms. Ruell.”

“I won’t make you get a divorce for nothing. After all, you weren’t married for long. I’ll compensate you thoroughly. Skylar, let’s be honest here. Tell me what you want. I’ll give it to you.” Vera had prepared herself for whatever Skylar might say.

She’d asked for 20 million just to help them get rid of the negative items. Skylar would definitely ask for more when it came to getting divorced.

Skylar pulled a hundred–dollar bill out of her purse and placed it on the table. She said, “This coffee is r treat. I’ve only got one condition. Joe has to hand me the divorce agreement himself, I’ll

my immediately.

“I hope this is the last time you seek me out to talk about this. If there’s anything between you and Joe, that’s your problem. Settle it with him.”

Vera frowned. She sat there trying to calm her fury.

Skylar was unshakeable? Did she really think Joe would never ask her for a divorce? Alright, Vera would watch how Skylar fared in the end!

She pulled her phone out and scrolled through her contacts. She called someone. They picked up quickly. “Are you Christopher Fowler?”

“I am. Who are you?”

“You don’t need to know who I am. I would like to check with you concerning your relationship with Skylar. Was she your ex? Did she dump you?” asked Vera.

Christopher said hesitantly, “What are you trying to do? Tell me now. If you’re unclear on your intentions, I’ll hang up.”

Vera rolled her eyes and said, “I know you’ve left Jipsburg and went home to start a fondue restaurant. It has been losing money and you’ve incurred huge amounts of debt for it, right? I’ll give you another chance at life. How is that?” This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

“Another chance at life? What chance would that be?”

“You’ll know if you come to Jipsburg.”

Christopher was silent for a long time. He was probably hesitant out of terror.

Vera guessed why. She said, “Are you scared of Skylar or Joe? If they’re the ones you’re scared of, don’t worry. I come from the Ruell family. No one will touch you if you’re under my protection. Even the Martins have to show us deference.”

With this promise, Christopher bit his lip. Then, he agreed, “Alright, I’ll head to Jipsburg!”

On Saturday, Skylar and Joe went to the Martin Group after breakfast.

The only people left were a security guard and a receptionist.

When the receptionist saw Joe with Skylar, he thought he saw a ghost with him.
