Chapter 818

Chapter 818

Thinking about how assertive Skylar had been with her recently, Vera’s confidence wavered.

Skylar said, If you have any questions, ask Joe. There’s no need to ask me.”

She didn’t want to get entangled with Vera. She could sense that Joe’s demeanor toward Vera differed from how he treated others.

Vera’s face grew even paler, and she swayed slightly.

Skylar stood up and left.

Outside of the hospital, she sent Joe a message on WhatsApp. “I’m leaving now. I have plans with a friend.

After Skylar left, Vera stiffly sat down. The bench in the hallway was cold. The coldness made her more alert.

She took out her phone and texted a few close friends. “Joe is married, isn’t he?”

“I haven’t heard anything about that.”

. “Isn’t he waiting for you?”

“Are you announcing something to us?”

“Congrats! You two are moving quickly. I just visited you in the hospital this morning, and you were already getting your marriage certificate this afternoon. Is he afraid of losing you again?”

“Congratulations! Wishing you a lifetime of happiness!”

Vera felt a sudden wave of relief and smiled self–deprecatingly. She realized she had been too rattled Her friends were unaware of Joe’s marriage, and his earlier comment was merely a test.

She had let herself become flustered. The trauma from the recent fire seemed to have left her easily

unsettled and overly fearful of losing those she cared about, clouding her judgment.

“No, we don’t have any relationship. Don’t spread rumors. I was just asking out of curiosity,” she replied. Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.

Then, she stood up and returned to the ward.

Joe and Denton exchanged only a few words. Denton’s condition was not very good.

However, recent unusual events in the Ruell family had raised his suspicions.

After leaving the ward, Joe noticed Skylar was not there. As he frowned and was about to call her, Vera also exited the ward.

“Joe, at the very least, we’re classmates, right?” Vera asked. Her demeanor once again exuded an air of superiority.

Joe looked at Vera with a cold expression. “Indeed, we’re classmates.”

Vera smiled. “Yes, we’re classmates. Thank you for visiting my grandpa. By the way, your wife left early because she had something to do. You might want to give her a call and check.”

So, Joe did say that Skylar was his wife. Then Vera would just take it as the truth.

Vera had always been proud. She could never let herself appear weak before Joe.

Perhaps she had called and shown weakness a few days ago, which made Joe look down on her and assume she would persist in pursuing him.

Vera was determined not to give him that satisfaction,

Joe narrowed his eyes slightly and replied with a single word, “Hmm.”

Skylar received a call from Joe while she was on the subway.

“I didn’t have a chance to tell you earlier,” she said.

Joe responded, “Hmm, just call me when you’re ready to head home, and I’ll come pick you up.”

Skylar thought, “Such thoughtfulness?

Her lips curled into a self–mocking smile. With a hint of rationality, she replied, “I’ll just take a cab home.”
