Chapter 16
Anderson hadn't been back for days, so Mayra couldn't seem to figure out why he had suddenly returned. Didn't Anderson say he was going to cut ties with her?
In the past, Anderson would also often get hurt, and she would have to take care of him each time. Therefore, she had already grown accustomed to such occurrences.
Before Anderson had returned to the Barlow family, the money he brought back was all ill-gotten gains. Mayra was aware of this. However, their life back then was truly too difficult. Moreover, Anderson still had to provide for her, so it was exceptionally hard for him.
While she had given up her love for Anderson, she was still grateful to him for raising her. Without him, she wouldn't be where she was today. Right now, all she felt toward Anderson was merely familial love.
Regardless of whether Anderson chose to abandon her or marry Isabel in the end, she would respect his decision.
"I'll go get you the medical box."
Just as Mayra was about to get up and head to the room, Anderson suddenly grabbed her wrist. "It's not my blood."
Upon hearing his words, she paused. She didn't know whether to feel scared or relieved. Did Anderson… do those things again?
After a moment of silence, Mayra finally snapped back into her senses. She took a seat beside Anderson and took a few tissues from the coffee table. With worry etched on her face, she leaned in and began slowly wiping the blood stains off of his face.
Anderson didn't stop her. Instead, he seemed rather used to her touch. This was completely unlike him as he usually never allowed anyone near him.
"Aren't you scared of me, Mayra?"
Mayra met his deep gaze. She pursed her lips and shook her head. "I'm not. I know that no matter what, you'll never hurt me."
She added, "As long as I don't do anything wrong, you'll treat me better than anyone else."
It was true. In her past life, she had repeatedly tried to get rid of Isabel and even tricked her into leaving Anderson. However, as long as Isabel was unhurt, Anderson never blamed her.
Besides that, he never once missed her birthday. Short of marrying her, he basically treated her as his wife.
Even when she made the gravest mistake, Anderson would always find a way for her to remain unharmed and unpunished.
Mayra gently wiped the blood from his eyes. His eyes were the most captivating part of him. Every time she looked into them, she felt as if she was sucked into a whirlpool and could never look away. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
She dropped her gaze and stared at his thin lips. It was said that people with thin lips were the most heartless beings.
However, that wasn't the case with Anderson. He loved Isabel with all his heart… She was the only one he ever loved!
Thinking about his cold and menacing demeanor, Mayra slowly pulled herself back from her thoughts. She knew that Anderson was never truly hers.
Anderson gently brushed aside the strand of hair that was hanging in front of her forehead. "Are you really not scared of me?"
Indeed. In her past life, almost everyone seemed to be afraid of Anderson. His glance was enough to send a shiver down one's spine.
Yet, Mayra was the only exception. Because of Isabel, she had gotten into countless fights with Anderson. Each time, Anderson would be left infuriated by her, but he could do nothing about it.
The both of them would suppress their anger and not talk for days. In the end, it was always Anderson who would swallow his pride and coax her.
Mayra said softly, "That just goes to show that you've been really kind to me. No matter what you do, you always have a reason behind it.
"By the way, are you free on the 7th of next month?"
