“Nelly?” | groaned, turning to the space beside me. It was as if she had disappeared into thin air. | sat up, trying to make sense of what had happened.
Maybe she had left early in the morning, without saying good morning. | felt a lump form in my throat, a bitter taste in my mouth. I tried to shake off the feeling, but it lingered, clinging to me like a shadow.
| stood up, my limbs heavy and stiff. | needed to move, to get out of this room, to feel something apart from the emptiness that was eating me up inside.
| stood up and made my way to the bathroom, my towel in hand. As | passed by the mirror, | caught a glimpse of myself and winced. My hair was a tangled mess, my eyes swollen and red. | looked as if | had been through a battle, and | felt every bit of it. | ran my fingers through my hair, trying to detangle the knots. | let out a hiss of pain as my fingers got caught, feeling like | was trapped in my body. | closed my eyes, trying to breathe through the frustration.
| opened my eyes, expecting to be alone, but instead | saw him. He was standing in the doorway, his eyes locked on mine. | froze, my breath caught in my throat.
“Calm down,” he said, his voice soft and reassuring.
| attempted to speak, but the words stuck in my throat. “My name is Harry,” he said, breaking the silence.

“| guess it was,” | replied, my smile turning into a smirk. “I just couldn’t resist, you were trying to act like an overprotective mate, we barely even know each other.”
“Well, | was just.... concerned,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck, his eyes avoiding mine.
“Oh, please,” | said, rolling my eyes. “You were being a typical overprotective mate, trying to control everything.”
He sighed, his shoulders sagging. “I suppose you're right,” he said, a sheepish grin spreading across his face.
“Now, can you please move out of my way? I’m starting to feel claustrophobic.”
“Of course,” he said, stepping aside and giving me some much-needed breathing

“So, who hurt you?” he asked.
“What if | say it’s you?” | asked, a mischievous glint in my eye.
His eyes widened, his mouth falling open in shock. “But we have barely even talked for twenty minutes! How can you...” he began, but then his eyes went wide again, realization dawned on him? “Oh,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “Is it because I’m mate?”

“No, it’s nothing like that,” | said. “It’s...complicated.”
“Please, make me understand,” he pleaded, his eyes wide with desperation.
“You don’t know where | am coming from,” | said, my voice soft and gentle. “I don’t know anything about you. Why are you so excited to see me,” | said, my voice full of
emotion.
“| have always yearned to be with my mate, and now, the moon goddess has blessed me with a beautiful lady. | just can’t help but be excited.” | took a deep breath, trying to wrap my head around his words.
“But that doesn’t mean you can just push yourself onto me,” | said.
“Are you going to reject me?” he asked, his voice cracking. | kept quiet, unable to find the words to respond.
Harry stepped forward, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Answer me, Aisha,” he said, his voice stern.

| closed my eyes, letting the water wash over me, trying to wash away the hurt and confusion. Ast the minutes ticked by, | began to feel a little lighter, but still, Harry’s words haunted me. He seemed like a good guy, but | feared what would happen if | opened myself up to him.
