Chapter 183 Unspoken Trust and Hidden Agendas
The thought flashed through Avery's mind momentarily, and soon, Jacob's disdainful face filled her
thoughts.
She knew Jacob had ridiculed her countless times for being manipulative; it was very likely that
speaking up now would only invite his scorn, as he might think she was trying to exonerate her father.
Moreover, speaking to Jacob without uncovering the truth first could alert the mastermind behind the
scenes and lead to unexpected complications.
Therefore, she suppressed the thought once again.
Whether there was a mastermind or not didn't affect her relationship with Jacob. His infidelity was a
fact.
Compared to before, Avery managed to keep her cool, responding dully.
With the answer she wanted, Avery's mind cleared even more.
She clutched Jacob's clothes tightly; uncovering the truth became the only thought sustaining her will to
live.
"Thank you for calling 911."
"There's no need to look at the things of the past. Go to sleep."
Jacob thought Avery was just scared, and holding her, he fell into a deep sleep.
Strangely, Avery never mentioned Layla in front of him again, and the two seemed to have returned to
their old ways.
But this was just a facade. When Jacob fell asleep, the docile Avery in his arms suddenly opened her
eyes and shifted her body away, almost to the edge of the bed, unwilling to have any contact with him.
Jacob kept his word; the next morning, Avery was greeted by a familiar voice. "Wow, what a beautiful
house. Randy, can you draw it with your paintbrush?"
The boy beside him timidly pulled at him. "On someone else's turf, you should restrain yourself. Don't
forget how terrifying that person can be." Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Before Avery could come downstairs, she ran down at the sound of this voice, and the boy's bright face
appeared before her eyes.
"Avy!"
Avery hurried downstairs, her face a mixture of shock and joy. "How come you are here?"
"Yesterday, a lot of people came to the island. Some were measuring, some were wandering around,
and some brought us a lot of supplies. This morning, we were brought over. Avy, wasn't it you who
arranged this?"
Avery didn't expect Jacob to act so quickly. She nodded in a hurry. Jacob's voice came from around the
corner. "Are you happy now?"
The two instinctively shielded her from Jacob, not expecting to encounter him here.
"Don't be afraid. He won't hurt me."
Avery saw the coldness in Jacob's eyes. She took the initiative to link her arm through Jacob's. "Why
did you bring them here?"
"Aren't you concerned about these two lads?" Jacob pointed at Randy. "I have arranged their school
admissions. Since he has a talent for drawing, he should go to an art college for further study."
"As for this troublemaker, the police academy will suit him well."
Avery did not know what price he had paid to get the two of them in, but the fact that he thought of this
made her feel quite good.
"Thank you." She was truly grateful.
Jacob adjusted his cuffs. "Your job application has been handled by HR. Come to work on time in three
days."
After speaking, he left without even having breakfast, seemingly leaving the time for them.
Avery found that he seemed different, somewhat reminiscent of the past.
As soon as he left, the two became chatterboxes, firing question after question.
When alone, they secretly passed Avery a note with a phone number on it.
Avery dialed the number, and a familiar male voice came through. "It's me."
"Are you alright?"
"Yeah." Frank's voice was still indifferent.
Avery told him about the island. Frank was not surprised. "I knew you would keep your word."
Avery bit her lip and shared her concerns. "Frank, can you do something for me? Right now, I can't
trust anyone but you."
