Chapter 8
“Yes, I’m afraid. I’m afraid you won’t catch the person. If I’m not mistaken, you haven’t found him yet,” she looked at Jesse with a sharp and confident gaze. “The person behind the scenes will definitely not let you find him. But even if you do, it’s probably evidence that’s not in my favor.”
She didn’t wait for Jesse to speak and continued, “When I jumped into the lake to save Tavish that day, someone grabbed my leg and wouldn’t let me move. I struggled hard, and during the struggle, my head hit a rock.”
“Are you saying all this to absolve yourself?” Jesse’s face turned cold.
“No, I’m just reminding you not to ignore the fact that someone wants to harm Tavish because of your bias against me. If I really wanted to harm Tavish, I wouldn’t need to do all that and almost pay with my life!”
Nydia finished speaking and turned around, her back straight and her slender figure exuding stubbornness.
She knew that this matter was definitely related to Willette, because Willette knew about her taking Tavish out that day and even suggested it. Perhaps Willette initially only wanted to drive a wedge between her and her son, but when she also jumped into the water, she decided to kill her off, but it also gave her a chance to be reborn!
Jesse stared at Nydia’s back for a while, his brow slightly furrowed. He found that ever since she woke up from drowning, Nydia was different from before, and especially in terms of their interactions.
In the past, whenever she looked at him, her eyes were always filled with disgust and resistance, and she even refused to get close to him. But just now, her gaze was calm, clear, and serene.
“Daddy?” Tavish and Molly heard them talking in the room.NôvelDrama.Org exclusive content.
Tavish gently opened the door and saw Jesse standing motionless at the door. Jesse turned his wheelchair to face Tavish and then entered the room.
He saw the milk on the table. “Is this the milk she brought for you?”
“Yes, but my brother won’t let me drink it. He’s afraid Mommy put poison in it,” Molly said in a milky voice.
Tavish didn’t say anything, just looked at Jesse.
“If you don’t want to drink it, then go pour it out,” Jesse said. Thinking of the poison in the coffee beans, he couldn’t believe Nydia.
Molly looked at Tavish pouring out the milk and pouted slightly, “So, can I not eat anything that Mommy gives me in the future?”
Jesse remained silent and didn’t answer the question…
After examining his own body and the bodies of his two children, nothing abnormal was found. His body was fine too, probably because he hadn’t taken a large enough dose and hadn’t taken it for a long time.
At least it was confirmed that Nydia had not done anything to the two children, but it’s better to be cautious. “You can eat the food that we eat together, but don’t eat anything that’s given to you separately.” Until there is evidence that Nydia is innocent, it’s always better to be careful.
Children’s bodies are more vulnerable to problems.
Molly bit her lip and hesitated for a while before looking up at Jesse with round eyes and saying, “Daddy, mommy isn’t that bad.”
Seeing Molly like this, Jesse suddenly thought, if Nydia wanted to use the children, why not use the more obedient Molly, after all, she had a better relationship with her.
At the hospital, the doctor did say that Nydia had many bruises, which should have been caused by being restrained, so she wasn’t lying?
“Okay, it’s getting late, you guys need to go to bed.” Molly and Tavish went to their respective beds, but they both looked at Jesse.
“Daddy, it’s storytime,” Molly said.
Jesse showed a rare gentle smile, picked up the storybook, and read to them in a low, soft voice. The two children gradually fell into a drowsy state.
As Jesse tucked Tavish in, he heard Tavish whisper, “Daddy, mommy doesn’t hate me, right?”
His heart shook, and seeing the tears in Tavish’s eyes, he felt a sudden pang in his heart.
The next day, Nydia’s injuries had healed almost completely, and she decided to visit her childhood home. However, she could not come and go as she pleased from the Pascall Villa and needed to apply to Jesse for permission to leave. Nydia couldn’t help but mock herself, “Nydia, the prisoner of Mrs. Pascall’s confinement!”
“I want to visit my childhood home, can you send someone to accompany me?” she said to Jesse.
Jesse couldn’t refuse such an honest request from Nydia. He couldn’t keep her locked up forever, so he agreed. Nydia, a driver, and a servant went to her childhood home.
Looking at the mansion, she remembered her deceased parents and the happy, carefree times, but it all disappeared when her parents died. She has lived as a guest ever since.
The mansion was supposed to be lost, but somehow it was preserved, and nothing inside had been disturbed.
She went into the study, and everything was the same as when she left. Looking at these things in a daze, the dust on top was enough to indicate how long it had been since anyone had been inside.
“Madam, would you like me to clean up?” the servant asked.
“No, I’ll just sort out the things I need to take and have you move them to the car,” Nydia replied.
They gathered the things they wanted to bring along. After moving everything to the car, they left and went back to Nydia’s room.
“You guys can go about your business, I can handle the rest myself. Thank you,” Nydia said. The driver and the maid were both surprised because Nydia had always been cold and disrespectful towards them in the past, and they had tolerated her behavior only because she was Mrs. Pascall’s daughter. Now, she was thanking them?
They exchanged a glance and left the room, feeling curious.
The driver went to report the entire process to Jesse. “She only took some things and came back?” Jesse asked.
“Yes, sir.”
“What kind of things?”
“Books and the like, ma’am just sorted out some things in the study.”
Jesse frowned, feeling that Nydia’s behavior was strange. Why did she move these things back from the villa?
As far as he knew, after Nydia’s parents had an accident, she disappeared for a year and was then adopted by the Malones. She hardly ever went back, so this behavior was too unusual.
At the Wagner Chateau, Nydia looked at several boxes of books and notes with a relieved smile, glad that everything was there.
Most of these books were medical books and cookbooks.
She had a stroke of luck when she was young and learned medical skills from a master. She even helped others under the master’s guidance. Originally, she wanted to study medicine in college, but Willette persuaded her to study fashion design instead.
Later, Willette heard that running a restaurant was profitable, so she convinced Nydia to partner with her and learn how to cook. However, Nydia once made a mistake and a customer got sick, causing the restaurant to lose money. She eventually withdrew from the restaurant and let Willette manage it entirely. Nowadays, the restaurant is doing very well.
Looking at the calendar on the table, Nydia’s gaze stopped at April 17th. This was Old Malone’s 70th birthday. Her lips slowly curled into a cold smile.
“Willette, I will declare war on you on that day! I will take back everything you took from me!” She took a deep breath and neatly arranged the books and notes.
