Chapter 44

Chapter 144 Coming Back for Her

Anaya wore a thin beige coal so that no one could see the gauze. Anaya felt that blood was beginning to seep through the bandages, though not the coat yet. But later, people might see blood soaking through her coat.

Hearing her gasp, Joshua remembered that Anaya had injured her shoulder. Joshua quickly let go of her and asked with concern, “Did I touch your wound? Sorry, I‘ll take you to the hospital...”

“It‘s none of your business.”

Joshua pauscd.

Anaya said without looking at him, “You were still blaming me just now. And now you pretend to be nice to me. You probably want it to be even more painful in your heart.”

Joshua opened his mouth and was about to defend himself.

But Anaya left, preventing him from doing that

Joshua felt so depressed but couldn‘t give full vent to his feelings.

Lexie got up, walked to Joshua, pulled him on his sleeve, and murmured, “Joshua, I‘m so sorry for causing trouble to you and Anaya...”

Joshua tried to suppress his emotions and comforted Lexie softly, “You don‘t have to apologize. It was Anaya who should apologize to you.”

However, Joshua didn‘t say that he would ask Anaya to pay for it. It was just a small comfort that meant nothing to Lexie.

Lexie gritted her teeth.

In the past, Joshua would definitely ask whoever had wronged her to pay for it at all costs. But this time, clearly, Joshua was going to let Anaya get away with it.

Lexie could feel that Anaya was getting more and more important in Joshua‘s heart.

This was a piece of bad news for Lexie.

Lexie had thought that she would sooner or later become Joshua‘s wife, so she hadn‘t urged Joshua to marry her.

But now, Lexie realized that she might have been too conceited.

So far, all Lexie could count on was Joshua‘s love for her which might disappear someday, and the fact that she had saved him.

Once Joshua fell in love with Anaya, Lexie could do nothing about it but see Joshua marrying Anaya again.

Lexie must do something to get married to Joshua as soon as possible.

Only when she became Joshua‘s wife could she be at ease.

Anaya walked to the gate and Martin was already waiting there.

Whiy did it take you so long to...” Martin asked with a serious expression when he saw the dried blood on Anaya‘s coat, “Are you hurt?”

Anaya was hurt when she was with him. Martin was afraid of what Hearst might do to him if Hearst knew it. Hearst

must be so mad at Martin.

There was sweat on Anaya‘s forehead, but she said as calmly as usual, “It‘s an old injury with dehiscence. Shall we

delay the meal?”

“I‘ll take you to the hospital.”

Anaya did not refuse.

Anaya could not drive with a wounded shoulder

Martin brought Anaya to the nearest hospital.

Anaya followed the doctor into the room to treat her wound, Martin went to the end of the corridor and called Hearst.

Hearst was probably busy now. Martin waited for a while until Hearst picked up the phone.

“What‘s the matter?”

“Anaya accidentally had a wound dehiscence just now.”

“Beep, beep...”

Before Martin could finish his words, Hearst hung up the phone.

Just as Martin was about to call back, he heard Anaya‘s phone ring from the ward.

Martin was speechless.

Now Martin knew how much Hearst cared about Anaya.

Anaya took out her phone and took a look. It was an overseas number.

She thought it must be a scam call and hung up.

Martin called after being hung up over and over again. The doctor was a little annoyed and said, “How about you answer the call? If you like, you can curse at this liar.”

Anaya didn‘t know whether to laugh or cry.

The doctor was a little irritable.

Anaya picked up the phone and heard a man asking calmly in a low voice, “Are you at the hospital now?”

Anaya was slightly surprised and swallowed back the mean words that she was about to say, “Yeah, how did you know...”

Anaya quickly understood. “You know Martin.”

Hearst admitted directly, “Yes.”

Anaya suddenly remembered that Martin had bid for the jade for his “friend“,

Was Martin buying it for Hearst as a present for her?

Anaya thought it was a wild guess.

Some ladies might be so attractive that a man would fall in love with them after meeting them several times and spend a lot of money to please them. But Anaya knew that she was not one of them.

“Why are you using an overseas number?”

“I‘m on a business trip in Australia.”

“Hiss....”

The pain from Anaya‘s shoulder interrupted her.

Hearst on the other side of the line also seemed to have gasped, “Does it hurt?”

Anaya shook her head and reinembered that Hearst could not see it. She tried her best to steady her voice and said,

“No.”

Hearst was silent for a moment and asked suddenly, “Are you going home after this?”

“Yes.”

“Got it.”

Hearst quickly hung up the phone.

Anaya was confused.

What was Hearst going to do?

After treating the wound, Martin drove Anaya back home.

Anaya entered the room and it was dark

She entered the guest room and found that Aracely was not there.

Her heart skipped a beat as she quickly dialed Aracely‘s number.

As soon as the call went through, Anaya asked anxiously, “Where are you?”

“Aracely has fallen asleep,” a man said gently.

Anaya was relieved when she recognized it was Winston.

Aracely was home.

Winston asked, “What‘s wrong? Why are you so anxious?”

“I was a little worried when I came back and found that Aracely was gone... I can rest assured now since she was already asleep. Winston, have a good rest.”

“OK.”

Winston hung up the call and looked at Aracely who was so drunk that lay in the bathtub in her underwear.

Winston‘s Adam‘s apple moved. He closed his eyes.

All he needed to do was to clean up the vomit on her body. He must not do anything else.

Absolutely not.

She was his little princess and he was her knight. He had guarded her for eight years.

And he would always do.

Anaya quickly washed up, changed into a sleeping dress, and went to bed.

The doorbell rang at one in the morning

Anaya was in so much pain that she couldn‘t sleep. When she heard it, she got up and opened the door. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

The man outside looked a little tired in the cold wind.

Just as she was about to say something, Sammo, that was sleeping in the living room, seemed to have heard something. It got up from the cushion and rushed over. It circled around then happily, barking,

Anaya squatted down and rubbed the dog‘s head, gesturing for it to quiet down. Samnmo understood and quieted down. It put its front paw on her shoulder and threw itself into lier arms.

“Aren‘t you abroad?” she asked as she picked up the dog with all her might and looked at the man.

“I‘m back,” Hearst said in a low voice,

He said it casually as if he lived downstairs and it was so effortless for him to come to her place.

Anaya clearly remembered that it was less than four hours since he called her.

From Canberra to Boston, the fastest flight took at least three hours, not including the time spent waiting in the departure area.

And from the nearest airport to her house, it took at least half an hour.

Was Hearst just about to return to America when he called her, or...

Did he come back just for her?

Seeing Anaya lost in thoughts, Hearst lowered his voice and asked, “Did I bother you?”

Hearst knew that visiting her at this time might disturb her rest.

But he came.

Hearst couldn‘t rest assured without checking how she was personally.

“No, I haven‘t fallen asleep.” Anaya drew back from her thoughts. The expression on her face was inscrutable.

“Does it hurt?”

“A little bit,” Anaya did not act tough this time.

“Who was the one that injured you?”

Anaya could feel Hearst‘s anger.

She suddenly recalled the night when Hearst raised his knife ferociously.

she raised her head and looked at him. The expression on Hearst‘s face was as calm as usual as if it was just an innocent question.

Somehow, Anaya lied, “I went to the auction tonight. It was crowded and I accidentally bumped into someone.”

It was an obvious lie.

Bumping into someone would not hurt one‘s shoulder.
