Chapter 31
Skylar and Jayden are so engrossed in devouring each other’s mouths that they don’t notice that someone opens the door and she is in the living room with them.
The handbag Evelyn is holding drops on the bag, it makes the betrayals realize that someone is inside the living room. They quickly disengage from each other. But, it is late already. Evelyn has caught them doing the sinful act already. It is obvious to her that her boyfriend is cheating on her with her cousin. The world disappears from her eyes instantly.
Raymond’s lips tremble.”B. . abe. Don’t think about anything. I. . It is not what you think,” He stammers.
Evelyn ignores him totally and steals a glance at her cousin. Skylar has a blank look on her face. She doesn’t seem like she is affected by what is happening. That tells her one thing. This is not the first time they have been committing this act.
Evelyn swallows a gulp down her throat, trying to maintain her composure. She doesn’t want to break down in tears. She won’t let them see her weak side. She picks up her handbag which is lying on the floor and leaves the house for them.
“Evelyn! Evelyn, please wait. I can explain,”
Evelyn hears her boyfriend call her name and utter nonsense but she doesn’t answer him. It is useless.
She knows that she will run fast after her. It is obvious that it is the next thing he will do. So, she runs so fast and only stops when she is far from their house. She is still in their neighborhood though.
The tears that form a pool in her eyes start dropping. She sniffs back the tears, reminding herself that she is a hard girl. What happened should not make her weak. It doesn’t mean anything. But, she is just deceiving herself.
She starts crying really hard. She can’t believe that her boyfriend can betray her. She can’t believe that he can cheat on her, especially with her cousin. She wishes that it is a dream. A bad dream. But, it is the damn reality. Her boyfriend cheated on her.
Evelyn wipes her tears, noticing that people who are passing by are stealing glances at her. She is sure that she looks like a mad woman right now.
A mad woman who is putting on an oversized shirt that belongs to her boss. A boyfriend jeans Jayden ordered from an online store this morning.
Her eyes are still teary, the tears are threatening to fall. They really want to mess with her looks. She picks up her phone and calls her friend, Marina. She needs someone to pick her up from the road. She needs a shoulder to cry on.
Marina’s phone number is not going through. She doesn’t have friends, she can’t think of anyone to call. Someone pops into her mind. Her boss.
Seems like she will have to bother Jayden Turner.
“Hello,” Jayden’s calm and deep voice resounds in her head.
Evelyn swallows a gulp down her throat. “C… Can you please come over to my neighborhood? I will text you the a.. address?” She stammers.
Jayden starts. “Come over to your place? Sorry, I am busy. I have something to sort out…”
Evelyn interrupts him before he can complete his sentence. “Please, Mr. Jayden.”
“Are you okay, Evelyn?”
“I’m not okay,” She trembles.
Jayden takes a deep breath as if he is pondering on whether to help her or not. “Okay,” He finally says.
“Thank you,” Evelyn mutters under her breath and hangs up the call.
Evelyn wraps her arms around herself. Her lips tremble badly. She has really cried a lot, and her eyes are puffy. She silently prays in her mind that her boss will come in a few minutes. People who are passing in front of her are just staring at her. She doesn’t give a damn. They should think that she is a mad woman or whatever. They should have thought that she is a crazy woman and a psychopath. She doesn’t care.
A car stops in front of her. It doesn’t look like Jayden’s usual car but she is sure that he is the one. Who else will stop in front of her? He may decide to change his car today, after all, he has many of them.
She gives a weak smile when he comes out of the car. Jayden is the one.
Jayden lifts his eyebrows when his forest-green eyes pierce into hers. Something is indeed wrong with her. He quickly rushes to her and wraps his strong arms around her body.
She hugs him back, burying her head on his well-built chest. The hug is what she needs the most at the moment.
Tears fill her eyes once again. She battles her eyelashes and the tears run down her cheeks.
“Stop crying, Evelyn,” Jayden consoles her, caressing her back gently.
“I hate him. I hate him so much, Mr. Jayden,” Evelyn sobs.
A line appears between his brows. “Who?”
“Every man, especially Raymond. Raymond is a dîckhead. I thought he loved me,” She babbles.
He breaks the hug, wiping off her tears. “Let’s go inside the car first,” He says.
Jayden holds her wrist and leads her to his car. He helps her open the door and she enters before he enters the car.
“C… can you drive me to a hotel? I’m sorry to b.. bother you,” She stutters, cleaning her tears with the handkerchief he gave her.
Jayden shakes his head. “No…” He pauses.
He remains silent for a few minutes, then adds.”I will take you to my house,”
Evelyn lifts a shoulder in a half-shrug. “No, please. Go back to the company. I will be okay. I am strong and I…”
Jayden places a finger on her lips, keeping her shut. “Keep quiet, Evelyn. Breathe in. Breathe out. Don’t worry about me. Worry about yourself,”
Evelyn takes a long breath, then breathes out. “I am still going to worry about you. Your work is more important than my life problem,”
Jayden cups her cheeks, staring intensely into her eyes.”You are more important to me, Evelyn,” He mutters…Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
