Jayden takes a deep breath, rocking back and forth on his chair. He knows that he has messed up, but it is not his fault. He can’t possibly ignore the feelings he has for his ex-girlfriend. He doesn’t love her anymore. At least, he is sure of that. He has gotten over the love he has for her or the heartbreak he made him pass through. Those things made him stronger.

But, he only had a completely different type of feeling when he saw her, after a very long time.

Jayden shut his eyes tightly.”I don’t love Skylar Jones anymore. It is not possible for me to love a cheat,” He says in his mind.

His mind goes to Evelyn. He is sure that she is pissed off with him right now. How will he apologize to her? He shouldn’t have left her hanging in that way. He recalls the confusion and hurt in Evelyn’s brown eyes when he barked at her. His hands squeeze into fists. What has he done? He hurt her with how he acted and what he said to her, and Joe too. He is also angry with him. Well, Joe is his homeboy. He will understand and come around.

But, it will be difficult for him to beg Evelyn, especially with the fact that she is a stubborn human being. God! How is he going to apologize to her?

Turner’s company

Evelyn clicks on the mouse with anger. Everything seems to be irritating to her and getting on her nerves, including the innocent mouse. She is hungry, frustrated, and angry. She left the food she cooked with her boss at home, without touching it. She was confused because Jayden left her house angrily, which was why she lost her appetite. Now, she feels so foolish that she didn’t eat the food.

Everything frustrates her right now. Her work, her cousin, her parents, her boyfriend, and her egoistic boss. And, her boss is even the main cause of her frustration.

A beep coming from the office telephone snaps her out of her train of thought. First of all, she draws in a long breath hoping that she will not act rude to the person calling.

After a few seconds of trying to maintain her composure and temper, she picks up the call.

“Hello. Evelyn Jones from Turner Industries,” She utters.

“Good afternoon, Miss Evelyn. This is Mary from Hunt Industries. This call is to remind the CEO, Jayden Turner about the night party taking place at Hunt mansion. Can you kindly deliver the message to him?”

“Sure, I will, ”

“Thank you. We will be expecting him at the party, “Mary says and hangs up the call.

Evelyn rolls her eyes. She is pissed off and angry. Pissed off that she will have to go to Jayden’s office to deliver the message. She also hates Mary’s last words. What does she mean by ‘we will be expecting him at the party’? Does she expect her to convince her boss, even if he is not interested in the party?

Evelyn let out a hiss and stood up from his seat, going to his office. She takes in a sharp breath and knocks on the door.

“Who is that? ” His low and deep voice resounds in his ear.

She gives a half-shrug.”Evelyn Jones, ”

There is a minute of silence, then he mutters.”Come in, ”

Evelyn frowns, wondering why it takes him a while to grant her permission. Nevertheless, she enters the office. She doesn’t move close to him, she stands by the door.

She starts.”Mary from Hunt Industries called, she told me to remind you about the – ”

He cut off his words, his forest green eyes piercing into her eyes.”Come closer to me, Evelyn,” He orders.

“No,”

She doesn’t intend to sound rude but her voice came out as a snap.

“No. To both of them,” She snaps at him.

“I am coming,” He stands up from his seat and begins walking towards her, not breaking eye contact.

She ought to open the door and leave his office, but she remains glued to where she is standing, without making any attempt to leave.

Evelyn continued staring intensely at him, till he stood in front of her.

There is a moment of silence between them, even Evelyn can’t continue the message she wants to deliver.

He is standing so close to her, that the sweet scent of his cologne is filling her nose deeply.

“I don’t know what to say,” Jayden breaks the silence, shoving his hair back away from his face.

“Good for you,” She mumbles under her breath.

“I am here to deliver a message. As I was saying earlier, Mary said – ”

He suddenly covers her mouth with his hand.”Keep quiet for a few minutes, Evelyn. Please,” He begs her.

Evelyn wants to protest or remove his hand from her mouth, but the grip is too tight. She let him be, throwing a deadly glare at him.

He takes a deep breath and drops his hand on her mouth.”I…I am s.. sorry.”He stutters.

It is difficult for him to tell her “sorry”. It has been a long time since he said the word. He is not really used to saying the S word.

He continues.”I am so sorry for leaving your house, without explaining,”

She hisses. “Sorry, my foot. You should be sorry for snapping at me. For shouting at me, ”

“I am sorry for snapping at you. It is not my fault. I was confused and angry,”

“I see,”

His brows snap together.”Honestly, I hate apologizing and I am doing it now. You should be happy,”

She burst out into mirthless laughter, it didn’t last long.”Happy about what? It is not as if my crush, Morris Anthony is the one apologizing,”

He lifts his eyebrows.”Mentioning Morris Anthony is unnecessary though,”

“Saying that I should be happy because you said “sorry” is unnecessary too,” She retorts and leaves his office, without sparing him a final glance.

“This is not working,” He says in his mind.

Apology went wrong, all thanks to his pride and ego. Now, he has ruined the chance to make her forgive him.
