FOOD
Layla, Nolan and Malcolm all turned together to see who the intruder was.
“Grandpa!!” Malcolm squealed as his grandfather and sister walked into the house.
“How are you my boy?” The old man asked as he rubbed his hair lovingly.
“I’m fine. Did you bring any food?” Malcolm asked with eagerness in his eyes. He looked like he would really need a decent meal.
“No Malcolm, we didn’t bring any food. We couldn’t find any. You need to see the way the people in the market chased us away. His sister Millie, who was about thirteen signed in frustration as she closed the door behind them.
Malcolm’s face immediately squeezed the moment he heard her.
“Who are they?” Millie asked her brother as she pointed at both Layla and Nolan.
“Hey there..” Layla waved at her.
“Who are you? Grandpa, do you know them?” Millie asked her grandfather , who looked closely at Nolan.
“Your highness..” he uttered in surprise. He recognized Nolan.
“Your highness…” he bowed quickly this time around and he began to urge his grandchildren to bow also.
“Now quickly…” they all bowed in respect.
*Your highness, to which do I owe this visit?” He asked unsure what to say as his head faced the ground.
His daughter committed a grave sin which has left the family in trouble, they were now struggling more than before.
“Please take pity on my family. My daughter was forced to do what she did. Please pity us. We’ve suffered enough. I beg for your mercy your highness ” he pleaded this time on his knees.
It was quite surprising that the king had actually visited them personally, normally his guards took care of affairs like this, but seeing he came himself. He must have been really pissed for what his daughter did.
“Please spare us..”
“Please sir you don’t have to do this. Stand up. We only came with good intentions..” Layla said as she noticed that he was kind of scared.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
“Huh?” His brows furrowed.
“Her Majesty..” he bowed at Layla.
“What’s your name?” Layla asked.
“It’s Enid, her Majesty…” he replied.
“Okay Enid. We are here to see you guys…” she smiled as an assurance that everything was okay.
“See us?- please have your seat..” he quickly ran to get two chairs, which he thoroughly cleaned before giving them to sit.
“I hope everything is well?” Enid asked after Layla and Nolan had sat down.
“Yes it is. Please sir down..” Layla motioned for him to sit and he sat, Malcolm and Millie standing behind him.
“How’s things over here?” Layla asked, though she knew that was a baseless question to ask. The answer was written all over, things were not going well for them. Millie just mentioned that they were not able to find some food.
“Well I can say much, her Majesty..” Enid chuckled as he scratched the back of his head.
“I’m deeply sorry for the demise of your daughter…” Layla began by apologizing.
“It’s nothing, Her Majesty. She only paid the price for her stupidity..” he stated.
“Well, I came here to share my condolences. Malcolm also told me that he had not eaten..” Layla stated.
“It’s been so hard for us, seeing our daughter die a traitor. The people treat us like outcasts, the traders refuse to sell to us and I was fired from my place of work..” he lamented.
“I’m so sorry, believe me..” she said sadly.
“I’m here to help in any possible way I can…” she announced to them all. She was going to fulfill Sarah’s dying wish, to see her family happy.
“Thank you so very much, your highness. I’ll really appreciate your help..” Enid thanked them he loved his grandchildren a lot and it pained him to see that they were starved.
“It’s nothing. I’m just doing the best I can. I’m going to arrange for something for you guys meanwhile I have a request to make..” she began and they all stared at her curiously, including Nolan.
“What do you want, your highness? I’ll make sure to provide..”
“I just wanted to ask if I can take Malcolm with me to the palace..” silence reigned in the room.
Layla knew what she was asking was absurd, but she had seen potential in the little boy and something kept bugging her to take him along.
“I’m sorry if it’s too sudden..” she quickly apologized.
“It’s nothing, your highness. But that would be for Malcolm to decide, I can’t force him to do anything…” Enid stated. His family was his first priority.
And if the Luna had interest in his grandson, he didn’t mind as long as he was in safe hands.
“Don’t worry, he’s not coming as a worker or anything. I’m taking him in as his guardian..” she assured.
“If Malcolm agrees, he can go with you- Malcolm, come here..” he made Malcolm stand in front of him as he asked him if he wanted to go with Layla.
To everyone’s surprise he agreed.
“That’s great. I promise to take very good care of him..” Layla promised. Now she had to talk to Nolan as she never discussed this with him, she hoped he wouldn’t object to it.
“Thank you, your highness..”
“Before we leave, I’d like you to have this..” Nolan spoke for the first time as he gave Enid a bunch of dollar notes.
“Use that to get some food for your family and I’ll also send a medic for your wife in the evening, all expenses will be taken care of..”Nolan informed and Enid’s joy knew no bounds right at that moment.
“Your highness!!” Enid exclaimed happily. If possible he wanted to dance around the room.
“Thank you very much for this..” he appreciated.
“It’s nothing…” Nolan said, standing up from the chair. He just got a text from Darren, the culprit had been arrested.
“We have to leave now. Matters arising..” he gave Layla a knowing look and Layla immediately understood him.
“Malcolm, are you sure you want to come along?” She asked him again and Malcolm nodded affirmatively.
“We have to leave now but I promise to send something for you guys later in the day…”
“Here’s my card, call me if you need anything. And also Millie, if you ever feel the need to come visit the palace, you can always call me..” she smiled warmly at Millie, who reciprocated the smile.
“Take care of yourself boy..” Enid waved at Malcolm who waved back. They said their various goodbyes before Nolan and Layla left with Malcolm.
