Chapter 24
Chapter 24
**Ava's POV***
'Hey! Mum said that's not your work anymore! ' Ray complained. I was in the process of frying cassava
and sweet potatoes. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
I had already made three cups of mixed herbal tea. This was Kenya and even though most people had
long forgotten rich traditional foods, the Romans' still fancied such.
Traditional foods had this unique taste that I liked. Yes we ate junk once in a while, we tried not making
it habitual though.
'Oh come on Ray, I'm hungry and I'm in no mood for cereal. Plus I enjoy cooking for you guys. ' It was
the truth, I enjoyed every second of it.
'Smells good in here, what are you making? ' Bry walked in the kitchen with a smiley face. That's new, I
thought.
I guess he was feeling free and happy after letting what was bothering him out.
'Lightly fried Cassava and sweet potatoes. ' Ray beat me to it, putting his hand on Bryson's right
shoulder.
'Do you want to hit the swimming pool later? ' Bryson suggested, looking at the both of us, clearly
waiting for an answer.
'Why not? Mum and dad won't be home till 7 in the evening. ' Ray added.
I didn't like that my thoughts went back to that night Bry kissed Ariel in the same pool.
My mind was prompted by the mention of the swimming pool to start replaying the scene. The images
of Bryson's lips locked to Ariel's replayed in sequence.
I thought I had forgotten about it the moment Bry narrated his past, but no. That wasn't the case. It still
hurt to admit it let alone remember it.
I didn't want to think about it and I certainly didn't want Bry to doubt my forgiveness. But how could I
stop my mind from pushing forward the past to my present?
'Hey, I was a jerk that night. ' Guess he had already figured what I was thinking about.
'I swear that won't be happe...'.
'Stop it Bry, we'll go make new memories, right Ray? ' I turned to him satisfied with a nod from him.
'Okay, that's settled. ' I continued, clapping my hands together. I was so ready to get into the chlorine
water with these handsome hunks.
Twenty minutes later we were all sated wanting nothing but to just relax and enjoy our Sunday.
We were currently seated on the carpeted floor, phones in our hands.
Every one was glued to their mobiles, enjoying the comfortable silence that came along with it.
There was comfortable soothing silence among us. It brought forth a nice calming effect on my mind.
There were no thoughts at the moment, just the peaceful company from my men.
'Hey Ray. ' Bryson called out to Ray. He had this curious look on his face.
'Do you ever wonder why mum never send any pictures to us while she was gone?
I mean she'd come once in a while to check on us. But that was after she found out about the assault. '
He continued.
'Now that you've talked about it...' Ray was scratching his chin, probably thinking about what Bryson
had said.
'You know I expected her to stay, but she waited till dad came back and left again. ' Ray continued.
'It still hurts me even to this day that she couldn't stay for me. What was so important in her life that she
couldn't be there for me at such a time. You know if there's anything I wished for during those times
was for her to drive me to my therapy sessions. '
I didn't think Renata would do that, she was the most caring woman I had met. Apart from my mother of
course.
'I guess she couldn't get past the separation. ' Bryson added.
'Do you think dad cheated on her? ' Bryson asked after a while.
'We don't know that Ray, all we know is that they had separated. They never exactly told us the reason
behind the separation. ' Bryson had now put his elbows on his knees, leaning forward.
I was surprised, I mean I thought that they had grown up with their mum in their lives.
They were so close to Renata, the bond they shared was so strong. Nobody would have guessed that
she missed most of their teenage life.
'Wait guys, when did she move in permanently ? I mean the separation clearly didn't escalate to
divorce, did it? ' I wanted to feed my curiosity.
'Amazingly no, though she moved in last year. ' Ray answered.
'It's a wonder even after the separation lasted for so long they still managed to get back together. '
Bryson remarked.
'Well, I guess they never fallen out love'
'She called everyday though, and she'd come every weekend to spend time with us. I guess that's why
we never really stopped loving her.
Despite the distance, we made sure to bond every time she came. ' Ray explained.
'What about your dad? ' I asked.
'What about him? ' Bry questioned back.
'Did he stay single for all those years? No offense but it's hard for a man to stay celibate for that long. ' I
elaborated my question.
'I can't say for sure because he travelled a lot. But when he usually came home, he'd spend most of his
time alone busy with work. ' Ray looked at Bryson.
'Do you remember that time his former secretary came to visit him in nothing but a transparent night
gown? ' Ray asked Bry.
'Oh yeah, how could I forget. I still wonder why she chose to bring the paperwork in that gown. ' Bryson
spoke.
'Oh come on Bry, why else. Even if I wasn't there I know she wanted to seduce him. ' I joined in the
conversation.
'But even so, she ended up being kicked out. I remember her zooming past me on the front door in
tears. ' Bryson said.
'Ha ha, that's because dad rejected her advances. ' Ray laughed.
'So Ava come to think about it, I think dad did stay celibate. ' Ray drew his conclusion.
'I still don't understand why we are even talking about dad's sex life. ' Bry mumbled.
'That wasn't even the point! ' I tried saying.
'Leave this douche bag to his perverted thoughts. ' Ray teased.
'Ready to get wet ? ' Bryson nudged me.
'Wtf Bry! ' I exclaimed.
'I was merely talking about getting wet in the swimming pool. ' Bryson smiled.
'Who's the pervert now? '
