Chapter 11
Chapter 11 Emma was, indeed, having a meal with a relatively younger man. The man’s name was Adam Gilbert, and they had got to know one another through an interesting series of encounters. Previously, Susanna had been the lead actress in a romance drama. The plot of the series circled around the relationship between a woman with a successful career and a man who was younger than her. Hence, the actor had to be someone who was young. Since there was an abundance of young and budding actors in the industry, Susanna got Emma, who had been overseas, to help her pick the ideal partner to work with. Emma was a scriptwriter, so she had some confidence in her taste for picking the right roles. In the end, Emma decided on Adam, and the man eagerly took up the job. The series had just been released a while ago, and it was starting to get popular among the masses. After hearing that Emma was back in the country, Adam offered to buy her a meal to thank her for choosing him to take the role. However, Emma had no idea that Zachary had caught sight of her as she was heading upstairs in the restaurant. Halfway through her meal with Adam, a waitress entered their room with an expensive-looking beef steak on her tray. “Didn’t you already serve all our food?” Adam eyed the waitress with a puzzled gaze. “This is one of our signature items and a man called Mr. Bateson delivered it to this lady here,” the waitress explained with a smile. “Mr. Bateson?” Emma was shocked to hear this last name. She glared at the beef steak for a long while. Is Trevor the one who sent this over? How unlucky can I get?! I can’t believe I bumped into him twice in a day! First, I see him at Alpha Productions; then, I bump into him at my dinner place. We’ve already been divorced for a year and I’ve tried to keep my distance from him. What is he trying to do by sending me this beef steak out of nowhere? You know what? Regardless of what he’s trying to do, I’m not going to take the steak. Emma shot the waitress an apologetic look. “I’m sorry. I can’t take this beef steak. I’m not that acquainted with Mr. Bateson, and I’m allergic to beef.” Hearing that she was allergic to beef, the waitress had no choice but to take the item away. Food allergies weren’t something to be joked around with—their restaurant wouldn’t be able to deal with the consequences if anything went wrong. After the waitress left, Emma lowered her gaze to hide the bitter and scornful look in her eyes. She had been Trevor’s wife for three years, yet he didn’t even know that she was allergic to beef. much he had neglected her throughout their marriage. She had never eaten beef or lamb since she was young, as she would get rashes if she consumed large portions of them. When she was with Trevor, there was often such food on the dining table, but she had never taken a single bite of them. Those dishes were only there because Trevor liked them. Adam, who was sitting opposite her, gazed at her pretty face for a moment before he allowed his curiosity to get the better of him. “Who’s this Mr. Bateson you guys were talking about, Emma?” There weren’t a lot of people who knew about Emma’s relationship with Trevor. Furthermore, she had been dressed in a grand evening gown during the one time she showed up at Bateson Group’s anniversary event, so there were few who associated that elegant and classy Mrs. Bateson with Emma’s usual look. Emma was nothing more than a regular scriptwriter in Adam’s eyes. “I’m not sure. He might have gotten the wrong person,” Emma uttered casually before changing the topic. She didn’t want to talk about Trevor at all—she hadn’t expected to bump into him twice on the very same day that she landed in the country. How unlucky! That was the only thing on her mind right then. Meanwhile, Zachary and Trevor were in another private room in the restaurant. The waitress brought the beef steak over to their table before passing Emma’s message to them. “She said she’s not acquainted with Trevor?” Zachary spat a mouthful of wine out after hearing the waitress’ words before he burst into a fit of laughter. Trevor glared at his friend who couldn’t seem to stop laughing.
