Chapter 13

Liam.

I had just been returning from visiting my mother's graveside and celebrating her posthumous birthday all alone, with flowers, a small cake and wine. How it was possible that I missed someone I had never met so dearly was something I didn't quite understand, but the fact that she had given me life was more than enough reason to celebrate her on a day like yesterday.

The awful smell of rogues penetrated my nostrils, and I was going to go on my own way when I felt the familiar feeling in my heart that I only felt when Ciara was around. Luckily, I had stepped in right in the nick of time to find her being surrounded by twelve rogues, all of whom apparently didn't have good intentions.

"Go on your own way, loser," one of them said to me.

"Or what?" I retorted, tearing down a branch from a nearby tree.

"Or you'll pay a deadly price," he hissed.

I sneered. "I think you might be mistaken," I said, and with that, I lunged forward at him and struck him on the head with the tree branch.

Two others attacked me from behind, but I dodged them so that they rammed into each other, hurting themselves alone, and before the others could attack, I had already climbed the tree, from whence I shot the arrows I had stolen from their sack. It hit two of them on their shoulders and they fell, howling in pain.

"Who are you and why won't you go on your way?" one of them asked.

"I am Prince Liam of the Silver Crest Pack, and you were just trying to attack my woman," I said, meeting Ciara's eyes and she swallowed, unable to look away.

"I thought he was Prince Liam," he said, motioning at Blake who was still fighting for his life with everything he had.

"Well, it's a good thing you're here. You're just the wolf we were looking for," another stated, and with a mighty roar, he shook the roots of the tree with such great strength that it came tumbling down.

I somersaulted away, then paused, calculating how to attack them and the angle to attack. I already knew it wouldn't be possible to take them all in this form, so bracing myself, I shed my flesh and shifted into my wolf form, and with a loud howl, I began attacking them in every way possible.

It was a long and thorough battle as the rogues were brutal and not willing to give up. They seemed hell-bent on taking my life, like they had a personal vendetta against me.

Every now and then, Ciara would scream, "behind you!", "look out!" After all I had done to her, especially after last night, one would think she would be rooting for the rogues to succeed in their evil mission, but I guess she was really that nice. I was fighting off the last rogue when my ears pitched and I heard another which had regained its strength approach me from behind. It was either the one in front or the one at the back. I was so confused as it seemed like a dead end, not until Ciara suddenly picked up the branch I had discarded off a while ago and smacked it on the rogue approaching me from behind.

I finished off with the last rogue and he with the rest of his friends ran off with the last bit of strength they possessed.

I then smiled at Ciara, nodding my head in approval. However, my approval was obviously not what she sought. "Blake is in danger. You have to help him," she said.

I ran towards him and examined his wound. "Why aren't you healing? What's going on?" I asked.

"It's not the full moon yet. My healing powers only work during the full moon. Please, don't tell father," he said.

"So, why did you get shot if you knew this would happen? Are you trying to get yourself killed?" I barked.

"This is all your fault. If you hadn't left, the Alpha wouldn't have ordered me to get you back to the palace and Blake wouldn't have offered to help. Stop blaming others and let's try to come up with a solution," Ciara said. Ordinarily, I would have told her off, but this time around, she was right. I tore off my shirt and bandaged the wound properly, telling him to endure the pain as I began to figure out how to transport him back to the Silver Crest Pack. "Don't worry. I can walk," he said.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Definitely. I'm not an Alpha Prince for no reason," he stated, with a weak smile.

I helped him up to his feet with the assistance of Ciara, when suddenly, a thought crossed my mind.

"Wait a minute. How were you two able to find me here?" I inquired.

"Alden was the one who told us you would be here and gave us the address," Ciara responded.

"Alden? But how did Alden know of this place, and how did he know I would be here?"Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.

"No one even talks about my mother in the palace. There's no way he would know it was her birthday, unless-" I let go of Blake and turned around, as a thought struck my mind. "Unless what?" Ciara and Blake asked in unison.

"Unless his mother told him, which reminds me that rogues never come here unless in the dead of the night, but somehow, they were out this sunny afternoon and apparently, it is me they had been hunting down," I said. "Are you saying that the Luna might have a hand in this?" Ciara appeared shocked to death.

"Precisely,” I said, then grabbed the last of the rogues who was still on the floor, too exhausted to run off like his peers had done.

"Who sent you? Answer me, and I'll consider sparing your life!" I commanded.

He was silent for a while, and soon, he began to laugh hysterically. "I would rather die," he said.

I believed he was just being difficult, but right there and then, his claws sprung out from his overgrown fingernails and he dug them into his own throat, committing suicide and taking his last breath.

It sent chilly shivers down our spines, and it was now glaring that things were more serious than we had thought they were.
