Chapter 686
Chapter 686
“What are you saying? I thought we agreed that we’d be friends for life. From now on, there’s no need for you to hide things from me. I don’t want to be a friend who gets updates about you from the news rather than from you in person,” said Lisa.
“Got it,” answered Serenity, who was on the brink of tearing up.
Lisa had always been like this. Once you were chosen as a friend, she would be loyal to the end.
The next day, when they met up, Lisa got to know the details of Serenity’s wrongful conviction, including how Yuri was the mastermind behind this.
“I never thought that someone could frame another person just because they didn’t want to be implicated,” said Lisa with a gasp. “But I’m thankful that you’ve finally proven your Innocence. So, what are you going to do next?”
“I haven’t thought about it yet.”
Serenity looked forward to the next chapter in her life, but she still hesitated. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
“Are you going back to being an attorney?” asked Lisa.
Serenity smiled wryly. “I’ve been out of the profession for four years now, I don’t know if I can start all over again. At this point, I can’t even recall the laws that I used to be so familiar with.”
“It’ll be a real pity if you don’t become an attorney. Since there’s no rush for you to find a new job, you can take your time and familiarize yourself with the law! I have faith in you!” said Lisa confidently.
Truth be told, she had always admired Serenity’s learning capacity.
Serenity pondered for a moment and responded, “Yeah, I’ll familiarize myself with it first. After all, you’ll never know unless you’ve tried it.”
Her license to practice as a lawyer was finally restored, so there was all the more reason to cherish the opportunity.
“Come to the bookstore with me later, I’d like to buy the latest law journals,” said Serenity.
“Sure!”
Now that her friend was getting her act together, it went without saying that she had to give her full support.
When they arrived at the bookstore, Serenity immediately headed for the section with legal publications and started browsing through the books. Speaking of books, it had been a while since she had last come to this store. Before she went to prison, she was a frequent customer here. She would come here once or twice a month, not only for law journals but also for magazines.
Even though e–books had become the norm nowadays, she still preferred the feeling of a physical book and jotting down annotations by hand.
Being able to come here today made Serenity overwhelmed with emotions.
Looking at the endless law journals, Lisa felt a little bored. After all, she hadn’t learned this back in university.
“I’ll head over to the magazine section. After you’ve chosen your books, you know where to find me.”
“Okay.”
Lisa hastily made her way to the magazine rack and flipped through magazines that wrote about her favorite celebrity while Serenity continued picking her books.
Suddenly, a voice sounded, “Are you… Serenity Lewis?”
Startled, Serenity turned to look at the person who had called out to her. He seemed to be a stranger, about 25 or 26 years old, and he was dressed casually.
After confirming that he was talking to Serenity, he said, “You must be Serenity! I saw your picture on the internet when Jenny Hall issued a public apology to you. Why didn’t you respond to her apology? Is it that difficult to say something? What’s more, Jenny only said those things because of the court’s wrongful decision. In fact, I feel she doesn’t have to apologize to you, but she’s just too kind…”
