Chapter 14 A Death Hook
Chapter 14 A Death Hook
Calvin was a little guilty to see her. After all, he had swallowed the million-dollar Basilisk Venom.
“Why are you here?”
Selena saw him. Before he could answer, she took his hand.
Calvin wanted to get away from her but Selena kept staring at him and said, “I was just wondering how
to find you. Follow me.”
Selena dragged him to the elevator.
Rita didn’t expect him to arrive so early and she also didn’t expect him to be holding hands with a pretty
girl.
Was that girl the reason why he wanted a divorce?
Calvin was speechless. Was this God’s plan?
As they got on the elevator, Calvin got off her hand and kept his distance from Selena.
“Oh right, what’s your name?”
“Calvin Whitney!”
Selena nodded, “After they sent the old man in, he was in a good condition. But this morning the clinic
called me that things have changed and they wanted me to come...”
Selena was gibbering and didn’t notice the look on Rita’s face.
“You are the one who saved his life. You know how to cure him, right?”
Selena didn’t know what to do. Since they came across, she put all of her hopes on him.
“Let me see him.”
“Okay, please help him.”
Rita listened carefully and found out they weren’t what she thought they were.
Could Calvin really save lives? Why did he learned how to do that?
Rita took a look at Selena and felt she knew her somewhere.
The elevator door opened and Selena took Calvin’s hand again. Her hands were soft and cold, which
ignite his desire to keep her warm.
Rita followed them outside before she knew what she was doing.
Outside the ward, several doctors were discussing worriedly.
“Doctors...”
They saw Selena and hastily said, “Miss Bentley, you’re here. He is currently in a very bad condition.”
“How come? He was doing well last night.”
“His head was heavily injured. Maybe the brain damage led to internal bleeding.”
Selena said angrily, “The reason why I hired you here is because I want an answer. I don’t want an
uncertain answer.”
Seeing that Selena had lost her temper, the doctors hurriedly said, “Miss Bentley, trust me, we have
done everything we can. Also, we’ve invited an expert in brain damage, Dr. Lee Marcus. He’ll be here
with us to give us his diagnosis. He should be here by now.”
And he came.
An old man with a rather young face came out of the elevator. He was wearing a suit and holding a
walking stick.
“Dr. Marcus, you finally came.”
Rita was astonished. Dr. Marcus was quite famous and his clinic, Dr. Marcus's Clinic was way better
than the Houston's Clinic. He had more than ten clinics in Chelston.
Speaking of experts, he would be the first that crossed their minds.
Lee Marcus paced himself and was expectedly calm.
“Why the hurry? Why can’t you let a poor old man finish his breakfast.”
Dr. Marcus seemed to be in a bad mood because they were rushing him.
Selena calmed herself down and said politely, “Dr. Marcus, I’m Selena Bentley from Bentley Group.
The man in the ward was injured because of me. If you could save him, I’ll give you whatever you
want.”
Dr. Marcus had heard of Bentley Group.
“Rest assured, even if he had already stepped in heaven, I’ll bring him back to the earth.”
He seemed to be overly confident.
Calvin was about to follow them into the ward but was pulled aside by Rita.

“Saving a life.”
Rita was annoyed, “Are you out of your mind? The doctors and an expert are here. They don’t need
you to cause any trouble for them. Do you even know anything about medicine?”
Rita would never believe that he owned The Book of the Malandra.
“I’ve read a few books about it...”
Rita got pissed off, “Since when did you become so cocky? You read some books and thought you
could be a doctor? You’ve always been a humble and honest man. Why did you come to this?”
She was still questioning him. Calvin suddenly said, “Yes, I am a humble man. So humble that people
looked down on me and I still acted like nothing happened.”
“You...” Rita was furious, “You’ve got a lot of anger? Alright, throw your temper at me. My family
wronged you. I’ll apologize on behalf of them.”
Calvin said coldly, “No need for that. Don’t worry. If anything bad happens, it’s on me.”
“I, I thought you’re gonna go to a business meeting with me, right? Once the deal is done, all your
debts will be cleared.”
“We got enough time for that. Life comes first.”
Then he ran into the ward, leaving Rita stomping on the ground madly.
“You only come here for Selena!”
But Calvin had already gone into the ward and could hear nothing.
The old man was lying on the bed in a coma.
“Dr. Marcus, around 5 a.m. today, he had gone into a coma and his heart rate has been decreasing.
His blood pressure and blood oxygen are all dropping rapidly. We’ve tried a lot of methods but they all
didn’t work. If we do nothing effective, he’ll stop breathing in less than half an hour.
Dr. Marcus nodded, “He is in danger. Please move aside and I’ll try my way.”
One of the doctors was excited to hear that, “He’s going to use his magic power? The old man will be
alright soon!”
Dr. Marcus proudly took out his tools. Just as he was going to work his magic, someone stopped him.
He turned around and it was Calvin.
Calvin looked at him seriously, “You’re not saving him, you’re killing him.”
Several doctors came up to stop Calvin, “Who are you? The man is dying. Don’t make us any trouble.”
“Miss Bentley, is that your friend? Can you send him out?”
Selena stared at Calvin puzzledly. She didn’t know why Calvin was trying to stop him.
“Dr. Marcus, you’re trying to use the soul hook to bring him back to life, right?”
Dr. Marcus snorted, “I didn’t know a young man like you would know so much about this.”
“But based on his conditions, he is too weak for the soul hook and can’t take the power. If you insist
doing that, he would vomit blood and die.”
The doctors thought he had got a pointed and stopped dragging him. They all didn’t know what to do.
“Hmm, you dumb kid is talking nonsense. I know what I’m capable of and you know nothing. How dare
you teach me what to do?”
Calvin was trying to say more about this but Dr. Marcus straightforward put the soul hook on the old
man’s chest.
After his work was done, the old man responded soon.
“See, he seemed to be much better.”
“His eyes are moving. He’ll wake up any sooner.”
“What a great doctor! This is quite effective,”
“Kid, why you stop chipping in now? Go on. You’re quite talkative.”
These doctors started to mock him but they didn’t notice the expression on Dr. Marcus’s face.
There were nine moves in the Soul Hook and he only knew the first three moves. Because of these
three moves, he became a famous expert. But this time he only used the first move and it was more
effective than ever.
The old man did open his eyes. But the next thing they knew, he vomited blood and he stopped
breathing.
“His heart...is not beating anymore.”
“This is...a death hook...”
