Chapter 24
Meanwhile, Quinton was rattled by how well Selina grasped the business landscape. He knew that Harvey Group, though once formidable, was plateauing, and stagnation in business can spell disaster. While it looked untouchable to outsiders, the failure to grow risked it being dethroned from its top spot in the local market. Staying static could be a company's undoing. Both Harvey Group and Insight Group were heavy hitters in town with little room at the top. Just maintaining their status was seen as a success. But ever since Trevon stepped in. Insight Group was on the rise, seeing gains every year. Selina's inside scoop clearly came from Trevon.
"So what's Trevon's game, huh? Prodding you to smear us just to snatch up some real estate! You snake! I won't let you have your way?" Sara was fuming, trying to process how their long-lost daughter had turned against them. Teamed up with Trevon, she was biting the hand that fed her, their very own blood turning on them. What bad karma have I racked up to deserve a backstabbing daughter like Selina" she wondered.
"You can bet on Trevon. Insight Group is leaving Harvey Group in the dust, Selina fined back, confidence in spades. "All I want is justice-Manuel needs to pay for dragging my name through the mud. And Mr. Harvey, dropping the Brady family name to scare me? Fat chance!"
"Ms. Harvey, Bobby Nash at your service, from Maple Law Firm. The Harveys have filled me in, and I just had to meet you" Bobby interrupted, eager to make his presence known. He straightened his tie, stepping up to put Selina in her place. With his track record, he could twist even the knottiest case in his favor-worst case, they'd seule without jail time for Manuel
Quinton and Sara couldn't hide their smugness. They had the city's ace attorney, Bobby Nash, virtually unbeatable. With him on board, they might just outmaneuver Trevon and his camp!
"Bobby Nash, right?" An icy voice cut through the tension. Malcolm strolled over, the epitome of nonchalance, with Lydia in tow, more interested in her snack than the brewing conflict
"Not you again Sara's face fell seeing Lydia. From what she'd learned since yesterday. Lydia was bad news-a drummer in some underground punk band-and probably no stranger to trouble. With her extravagant style, who knew what kind of influence she'd have on Selina? Sara thought. Selina could embarrass herself however she wants, but not at the expense of the Harvey family name.
Bobby turned white as a sheer at Malcolm's arrival, visibly shaking.
When he noticed Bobby's distress, Quinton's forehead wrinkled with concern. "Mr. Nash, what's gotten into you?"
"Mr. Weber, to what do we owe the pleasure?" Hobby's tone dripped with reverence as he addressed Malcolm, a stark change from his earlier confidence. The sudden shift in Bobby's demeanor send an uneasy feeling through Quinton and Sara.
Malcolm edged his way over to Selina's side. Standing tall, he shielded her with his body. His voice was cold as he said, "We grew up together and have the same mentor, so you tell me what I'm doing here.
Bobby felt a chill that nearly knocked the wind out of him. Pausing just a beat too long, he finally managed to stutter, "Mr. Weber, you're... taking
this case on?"
"You bet
That sharp response sent Bobby scrambling. He turned to Quinton and Sara, palms up. I'm sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey. I can't take your case. You'll need to find another lawyer.
"What the heck!" Quinton and Sara's jaws dropped. Robby had just been all buddy-buddy, promising to seal the deal pro bono, and now he was bailing just because Malcolm showed! He was the best lawyer around The Harvey family even called in a favor to get Bobby on board, and now he was ditching them.
*Till just leave you to your meal, Mr. Weber, Bobby said, ready to high-tail is out of there. Quinton and Sara shot each other a look. Quinton nodded at Sara, cucing her to catch Bobby before he left.
Quinton then turned to Malcolm with a steely look. "Mr. Weber?"
"Mr. Harvey, don't kid yourself. You're in for a loss. I don't take kindly to anyone messing with Selina Malcolm said with a dismissive wave, pulling Selina away© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Lydia, snack done and show over, rolled her eyes at Quinton and took off. Quinton was left seething, his hands balling up like he wanted to punch something. Mr. Weber.. That name isn't uncommon. What is it about this Mr. Weber that freaked Mr. Nash out so much? This lawsuit is looking a whole lot messier than we thought, he mused.
Sara caught up to Hobby in a flash. "Mr. Nash, hold on! Why are you backing out just because of Mr. Weber? It's not a big deal, is it?
Once Malcolm was out of earshot, Bobby risked an answer. "Mrs Harvey, you don't get it. Even a small case blows up with Malcolm in it. You've picked the wrong fight. I didn't expect him to come back from overseas just to deal with Selina's case. With him in the picture, there's no winning"
Finally, it clicked for Sara-the significance of the name. Malcolm, the wunderkind attorney in Mumzik, the guy behind Liberty Law Firm. In just a few years, his firm had become a titan in the international legal rene. Chapter 24
Success like Malcolm's abroad wasn't just about skills or connections; it was about crushing the competition. He was a legend in the courtroom, a total winner. Any local bias against someone not from Clusia didn't stand a chance against his track record-if he brought home the gold, he was not just accepted; he was revered
