Chapter 15
Chapter 15
There was an extra piece of ribs in her bowl. Celeste looked at Liam, who didn’t even glance at her. He
said indifferently, “If you want something, just grab it yourself.”
No, she wasn’t an outsider. She was a temporary actor in this family dinner, both her and Liam just
taking what they needed from each other.
Thinking about this, she felt defiant. If they wanted to act, fine, she’d join in!
So she picked up a very spicy piece of chicken and held it to Liam’s lips, “Honey, try this.”
Liam’s eyes widened, and he looked at her strangely.
Celeste smiled, showing a gentle expression.
Liam didn’t like spicy food, so she deliberately chose something spicy to see how he would act!
If he refused, the act would be ruined, and she couldn’t be blamed anyway.
Just as she was secretly pleased with herself, Liam suddenly leaned in and took a bite of the meat, his
lips touching her fork. He swallowed it down and, under Celeste’s astonished gaze, commented, “Not
bad.”
Celeste: You sneaky bastard! I hope it burn!
Skyler glanced at them, a hint of contemplation in her eyes.
Halfway through the meal, Liam’s phone rang. He stepped out to answer it, and Skyler finally put down
her knife and fork, asking Celeste, “How long have you had this stomach discomfort? Have you thrown
up?”
Celeste thought Skyler was still worried about her getting pregnant, so she explained, “Mom, I’m not
pregnant. I just finished my period last week.”
Skyler didn’t seem to believe her and asked further, “Did you take the medicine I gave you on time?”
The mention of the medicine made Celeste feel a little nauseous.
Skyler always blamed Celeste for not being able to have children and had tried various treatments and
strange tonics over the years.
Liam was so cold and hardly touched her throughout the year. She wasn’t an organism capable of Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
reproducing on her own. If Liam didn’t cooperate, how could she get pregnant?
“I already took it.” Knowing Skyler didn’t believe her, she added, “Martha watched me take it.“.
Kaylee sneered, “Mom, just like what I said before. You can give her the best medicine, but she’s like
barren soil. No amount of fertilizer will help.”
Skyler looked at her and said half–heartedly, “Don’t talk like that.”
Kaylee pursed her lips and rolled her eyes.
Skyler asked another question, “Did you and Liam use any contraception?”
Celeste: That was a bit too direct, wasn’t it?
She took a deep breath and answered honestly, “No.”
Indeed, they hadn’t. Liam always deliberately avoided her ovulation period, so even without
contraception, it was unlikely she’d get pregnant.
Skyler sighed, “I guess I was just too anxious.”
Just as Celeste was about to breathe a sigh of relief, she saw Skyler have Kaylee bring over a small
box, inside which were rows of black liquid.
Skyler opened one and pushed it in front of her, and a strange smell hit her immediately.
The fear of being dominated by this tonic washed over her, and her stomach churned.
She wanted to throw up.
“I have a friend who introduced me to a foreign specialist who cured her daughter’s similar problem in
just half a year. When
Kaylee went there, I asked her to help me run an errand. I told the doctor about your situation, and he
adjusted the prescription. This new medicine is more effective than the previous one, and I’ve already
had someone prepare it for Remember to take it on time. Once you finish, I’ll have someone send
more.”
Celeste was speechless.
you.
“Mom, I don’t think this medicine works. I’ve been taking it for over a year. When I had a check–up
before, the doctor said I was very healthy.” Celeste said.
She really wanted to say, why not let your son take the medicine? The problem was with him.
Kaylee sarcastically said, “If you’re so healthy, why can’t you get pregnant? With my brother’s
physique, anyone else would have had two kids by now. I really don’t know why he married you. You
live in our family, but you can’t have kids.”
Celeste’s face darkened, and she shot Kaylee a cold glance.
Kaylee looked defiant, thinking Celeste wouldn’t dare to talk back.
But Celeste suddenly said, “Not getting pregnant is better than getting pregnant and then having an
abortion.”
Kaylee’s face changed, and she asked, “What did you say?”
Celeste shrugged, “Nothing. I just saw a lot of young girls having abortions when I went to the hospital
for a check–up. It’s just a random thought.”
Kaylee stared at her, her eyes filled with fear and a hint of suspicion.
Skyler’s been obsessing over Celeste getting pregnant, so she’s not paying attention to her daughter’s
unusual behavior. She frowned and said, “With your suboptimal health, how can these check–ups find
anything? If you don’t fix these issues, even if you get pregnant, it’s hard to guarantee a safe
pregnancy.”
Celeste stayed silent.
Thinking she got through to her, Skyler continued, “Liam’s cousin has been getting close to the mayor’s
daughter recently. If they get married and his cousin’s wife gets pregnant before you, Liam’s position in
the company will be very difficult, especially since the old lady values the eldest son and grandson so
much.”
What did that have to do with her? She was about to get divorced, would she still care about Liam’s
situation? Moreover, she didn’t think Liam was in a hurry. He didn’t want a child at all. Oh right, he just
didn’t want a child with her.
“Your mother has been in a coma for years without any signs of waking up. Your dad is not even fifty
yet. He might remarry when he’s still young. Can you still be able to go back to the Campbell family
then? A child is your own and will be your support in the future, Celeste. You should think more about
yourself.” Skyler said.
Of course, Celeste didn’t think Skyler was thinking about her. Everyone in the Reed family had their
plans, and she was just a pawn in the game.
“I understand.” Celeste said.
