Chapter 2156
Chapter 2156
Was all of this a joke?
The best hospital in the city and the fire department weren't able to react in time. They were treating a person's life as though it were a joke!
There was no time to look into this at that moment however. I shouldn't be distracted and I needed to remain calm. I didn't want to lose the life of a friend over a brief moment of relief.
I had seen someone with the desire to end it all before. They had the determination to step forward and end it all. I didn't want to witness the same thing all over again.
"There's no need to rush. If you have yet to think things through, we can think about them slowly. Irvin even told me about you a little while ago."
'Irvin.' That name seemed to have resonated something inside her. Shirley smiled stiffly as she slowly turned around. Her cold eyes stared right at me. "Arianna, do you believe in fate?"
"What?" My mind went blank, and I had no time to think. I nodded. "I believe... I believe that if you have something to say, we can talk it over. All you have to do is come over here. Let's not rush things."
I told myself to be very careful about this. As I talked to Shirley, I tried to turn her focus over to me. With impeccable speed, I stepped forward, trying to shorten the distance between us.
However, I had forgotten that aside from Irvin, she was also a very smart and brave woman. She had seen through my act. "Stop, don't come any closer."
I thought I was imagining things. Shirley repeated herself, this time more firmly. She took a step back and dangled her heel in the air. She was now off-balanced. She then warned me, "If you don't wish for me to jump off right now, then stay where you are."
I felt angry and helpless. My feet stopped moving and rooted themselves on the spot. I then held up my hands to show her that I wouldn't move any closer. "Alright, I won't move, so neither should you."
She was using her own life to threaten me to get what she wanted. This wouldn't actually cause any direct harm to the person they were threatening, but ultimately it always worked and it often came at the cost of their friendship.
Was it possible that people who threatened others with their own deaths didn't care about the feelings of others?
This felt like having a thorn stuck in your throat. It wouldn't come out and wouldn't go down. But it would cause so much pain every time you tried to breathe or swallow.
Luckily, Shirley wasn't moving further away. So I was momentarily relieved.
"Shirley, tell me, what is it that you want to do here? What can I do to make you come back over here?" After organizing my thoughts, I asked again. This time, more calmly.
Ignoring my questions, she asked me, "Have you seen him?"
Irvin?
I nodded, "I had just come out from his ward. Irvin's condition is much better than yesterday's. He's eating now."
"Huh..." Shirley sneered. Rays from the morning sun were shining down on her face, however, she looked very gloomy. "Did you know that he had just been rescued?"
"Rescued?" I had no idea.
"Last night, he selfishly removed his oxygen mask. If it weren't for me having a bad feeling about something and going into the ward early in the morning just to check on him, you would have seen a dead body earlier!"
A dead body.
That's the second time I heard that today. Each time hurt more than the last.
Thinking of Irvin's smug face, I finally understood where his confidence came from. It felt like my heart had a hole in it and fear was constantly being poured into it.

anymore. Countless movies and real world victims had always shown the same outcome. After the first attempt, there would be countless more attempts later on, until finally when things just become too much to bear...
I didn't understand what Shirley had е meant. So, I asked, "So, Irvin wishes to die. Are you prepared to go with him Don't you care about your parents, not even your own child?"
