Chapter 2148
Chapter 2148
The tears in Shirley's eyes instantly disappeared and her eyes turned dark. This was not the outcome she had anticipated.
Of course, it wasn't. She had taken such a big step in finding the person that he had missed the most. But why was he still not satisfied?
She just wanted her husband, the person she loved, to live on. Was this too much to ask for?
No one could give her the answer she longed for, much like how no one could talk her into turning back.
Looking at Shirley's complexion, I assumed she hadn't been eating well. It must be difficult getting the mother and son to head to the nearest restaurant for a meal.
Hence, Hendrix ordered a few takeaways that would soon arrive.
Shirley could barely cheer herself up. Nheless, she still instructed her son to eat. "Eat up."
After saying so, she picked up her fork, and just like a mime, she remained motionless.
Sighing helplessly, I took up the bowl in front of me and scooped some soup into it as I said, "Everyone needs food to stay strong. If you break down now, who's going to take care of Irvin?"
Then, I placed the bowl in front of the child, and took his empty bowl, wanting to scoop some soup for him too. "Be a good boy and eat, alright? Once you are full, then you'll be able to take care of your mother."
Fortunately, the child did not inherit the stubbornness of his parents. Hence, after listening to my words and taking a glance at Shirley, he obediently grabbed his spoon and ate in silence.
As soon as he sat down, Hendrix brought his bowl over, filled it with soup and placed it in front of me.
I accepted it with a smile. Then, out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Irvin's son eating. Hence, I couldn't help but glance over and ask, "What's your name, son?"
"Daniel." He looked up at me, and his eyes resembled Irvin's. However, his gaze was purer than Irvin's, hinting at youth, and was a lot brighter than his father's.
"Daniel..." I uttered it silently and the corner of my lips curled up subconsciously. "It's a good name. Simple and warm like the sun. You have to be your mother's light so she can be strong and won't wander off in her imagination. You got that, champ?"
"Yes!" Daniel nodded, his gaze firm and resilient like a soldier's. However, he just looked adorable with his cheeks puffed and food in his mouth. Shirley brought her child up well. He was willing to accept the help and kindness of others, despite the grudges and resentment between the adults. I smiled with gratification and turned my gaze just in time to see Shirley let out a long sigh.
"If you give up as well, then Irvin would truly be hopeless."
I couldn't help but frown after hearing her say so. After so many things that had happened, Shirley and I were the only people that Irvin could rely on.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
This sentence also reminded me that no matter what, I couldn't give up.
Once a person approached the end of their life, old friends would one by one disappear. At death's door, there would be no time to think about gratitude and grudges. One would only wish to hold onto someone as long they could to stay back with them.
Hendrix didn't react much, but only silently placed his hand on the back of,ine, hoping that the warmth from it could give me strength.
"I wouldn't have waited so long to
give up even if I wanted to." With a pale face, a bitter laugh escaped from Shirley's lips. "I never understood why Irvin loved you so much that he was even willing to die for you. He was not afraid to give up everything and even sickness did nothing to frighten him. Why can't he just preserve and persist through this then? I thought a heartless person like him would get over this without much of a problem, but it seems he's actually just a coward."
"Don't say these things in front of the child." Even though I was upset about the situation as well, I didn't want the child to be privy to this. Grim moods were the most
terrifying epidemic. If the
spread
was severe, it could even cost lives. What they needed at this moment was not empathy, but hope.
"Why can't I?" Shirley started to lose her grip on her emotions. "He was the one that provoked me. He was the one that stole my heart and abandoned it like it was nothing. I had to give up everything in order to love him. I went through so much for him was there for him when he was sick and wasn't able to care for himself, and I took care of him. I was the one who had seen all of his unbearable appearances. I was the one who stayed by his side the longest. Why don't I have the right to judge him?"
