Chapter 51
Chapter 51
Chapter 51 It Is All Over Watching Cindy mercilessly giving a lecture, the three of them were astounded on the spot. Never had
they anticipated Cindy to rant and rave the second she laid eyes on Christopher.
Julianna couldn’t help but feel embarrassed at that. She quickly explained, “Mom, it’s not like that. The
truth is—”
Alas, Cindy also didn’t allow any room for her daughter to continue speaking. In her opinion, Julianna
would only try to plead with her on behalf of that good-for-nothing son-in-law of hers.
“I know you’re kind, Julianna. You must feel that he didn’t have it easy being a soldier for three years
defending our country. Who’d throw a pity party for me and your dad, then? I didn’t drag the both of you
out of the event hall to file your divorcement only because I didn’t want to embarrass you in public. But
little did I expect you guys to make a proposition and behave like some sort of big shot as if you own
Centurion Corporation. You even—”
“Uh… Mom? I’ve cut the deal with Centurion Corporation,” said Christopher calmly.
“Save your explanation! I don’t want to—” Instinctively, Cindy had thought that Christopher wanted to
defend himself. She was ready to give him an earful but instantly realized something. Thunderstruck,
she queried, “Y-You… You actually got a deal from Centurion Corporation?”
“Yes, Christopher’s their business partner now! We somehow managed to snatch the deal from that
sc*m Jared today,” exclaimed Julianna, smirking triumphantly. NôvelDrama.Org content.
“Goodness gracious! How’s it possible for a hundred-thousand-worth paper company to partner up with
Centurion Corporation?” Deep down, Cindy was on the verge of having a breakdown. Never in a million
years did she expect that to happen. Yet, she knew that it had to be the hard truth, for her own
daughter wouldn’t lie to her.
As Cindy unwittingly thought of how she had just insulted Christopher, her cheeks were scalding as if
she had been slapped several times across the face. That would make sense, for she had never made
a fool out of herself in front of him.
“This is so embarrassing.” Despite the agitation and frustration, Cindy couldn’t lash out at Christopher.
All she could do was suppress her emotions in the depths of her heart. As tears began to well up in her
eyes, she caught a glimpse of Frank snickering silently from the side. Immediately, her blood boiled.
“Frank! You fool! Why didn’t you tell me sooner? You must have a death wish!”
“Huh? I-I wanted to tell you just now, but you told me to zip up,” refuted Frank, feeling aggrieved. Cindy,
in turn, continued to holler, “Don’t you know how to ring me up?”
“Mom, don’t take it out on Dad. I was the one who suggested giving you a surprise,” uttered Julianna
apologetically as she cast an awkward glance at her father.
Cindy ultimately broke down. Surprise? More like a bolt from the blue for me!
She felt ashamed, obviously. However, her feeling did a one-eighty as she thought of the collaboration
with Centurion Corporation. Still, she didn’t go easy on Christopher as she went on, “You performed
well this time, Christopher, so I’ll cut you some slack today. You don’t have to divorce my daughter yet.
But remember that Julianna had been a grass widow for three years, and people had been raising their
eyebrows at the Murrays because of that. Don’t even dream of shaking off all of these just because you
achieved a feat today. Fat hope!”
As she dropped the words, she opened the door and went inside. Frank hurriedly trailed behind his
wife.
Although Christopher had just returned, he already knew his mother-in-law inside and out. He refrained
from debating with her about the matter, as he didn’t want to put Julianna in a tough spot.
Guilt-ridden about her mother’s bearing, Julianna tried to smooth out the conflict by saying softly, “I’m
sorry, Christopher. My mom shouldn’t have said those things to you. In fact, it’s all thanks to you and
that business proposal of yours. If you hadn’t gotten wind of the land in Dragon Valley and claimed it
before Uncle Fabian, we might’ve ended up with nothing. Worse still, I might’ve fallen into that jerk’s
clutches…”
Julianna knew that she owed it to Christopher for everything that had happened thus far. Without him,
her whole family would’ve been doomed, and she would’ve been forced to marry Jared.
The second Julianna thought of Jared, fear began creeping up on her.
Noticing the guilt in Julianna, Christopher put on a grin and comforted her, “What’s there to be sorry
for? I was the one at fault. I should’ve brought your mom in as well with the invitation card. Besides,
after serving the country and being away from you for three years, I should at least do this much. Rest
assured that I won’t let Jared have his way. In the future, no matter what happens, I’ll never allow
anyone to lay a hand on you!”
Christopher completely understood what Julianna had gone through over the past three years during
his absence, so he vowed not to let history repeat itself.
Hearing such comforting words from her husband, Julianna felt inexplicably touched yet bitter at the
same time. She wished to cry her lungs out, but she didn’t want to humiliate herself like that.
At long last, my three-year wait is over. Christopher’s back by my side.
Christopher wrapped his hands gently around Julianna’s waist. He could feel how stressed his wife had
been. “It’s all over!” he whispered.
Just when they were having their special moments together, Cindy’s furious voice sounded from inside.
“What the heck are you two doing out there? Get your butt in!”
The couple exchanged glances at that. They couldn’t stop themselves from chuckling awkwardly as
they made their way into the house.
As they set foot in the living room, Christopher heard Frank rambling on about how they had seized the
contract from Jared. Naturally, Frank added more spice to exaggerate the story and impress his wife.
“Oh, Dad, stop bragging,” remarked Julianna in a low voice as she shook her head helplessly.
