Skylar said, “Ms. Garza, I just heard from Joe about what’s happening with your family. I’ll need to see the situation myself to understand it better. If it’s convenient, I can come by Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
tomorrow.‘
Lizzie replied, “I’m at home right now, so anytime works for me. I really appreciate you coming all this way. I’ll pick you up at the airport tomorrow.”
Considering the current situation between Joe and Lizzie, Skylar quickly added, “No need for that. Just send me your address, and I’ll take a cab from the airport.”
“It’s no trouble. Don’t worry about being seen. Nobody knows I’ve left Jipsburg. You’re coming all the way here, and there’s no way I’m letting you take a cab to my house. It’s settled, then. See you tomorrow,” Lizzie said, leaving Skylar no chance to refuse.
After the call ended, Skylar quickly packed a few things. The next morning, Lucas came to pick
up
both her and Joe, dropping Skylar off at the airport first.
Joe couldn’t take time off, so he had to stay behind in Jipsburg. Skylar would be meeting Lizzie
alone today.
Just before she got out of the car, Joe pulled her into a deep kiss, pressing her into the seat for a long while.
When she stepped out of the car, her lips were swollen, and her face flushed. Thankfully, she had a mask in her bag. She quickly put it on, lowered her head, and entered the airport
terminal.
As she walked in, she complained to herself, “My lips are completely numb.”
Even now, she still felt a bit light–headed from the lack of oxygen.
Two hours later, after boarding the plane and settling into her seat, someone suddenly appeared before her.
“Mrs. Martin.”
Startled by the familiar voice, Skylar looked up. “Paul?”
Paul nodded enthusiastically, flashing a wide grin. “Surprised to see me? Mr. Martin was worried about you going alone.”
By the time she reached Adaver, it would essentially be Lizzie’s territory. The Garza family was the most prominent in Adaver, so nothing was likely to happen to Skylar there.
Moreover, very few people knew about Skylar and Joe’s marriage. To the outside world, Joe’s fiancée was still thought to be Lizzie. As a result, Lizzie became the target of attention and gossip.
However, Lizzie was anything but fragile. Anyone trying to mess with her might as well be courting disaster.
Paul felt like this trip was more of a vacation. It was a rare opportunity to relax.
“That makes sense.” Skylar nodded and gestured for Paul to take a seat.
After sitting down, Paul smiled at her. “Adaver is known for its food, including your favorite- fondue. I know a few places that do it really well. When I was in college, Lizzie invited me a few times, and just thinking about it now makes my mouth water.”
Joe had asked Paul to tag along, not just to protect Skylar, but for another reason–one that Paul was almost embarrassed to admit. Joe was overcautious, especially around Lizzie, worried she might somehow tempt Skylar.
However, it didn’t make any sense. Lizzie was devoted to someone else, and even if she wasn’t, it was unlikely she would try to go after Skylar.
Skylar smiled and said, “Once the Garza family’s situation is sorted, I’ll treat you to some.”
Paul grinned, not even pretending to be polite. “Deal. I’ll pick the place:”
With Paul keeping the conversation lively, the two–hour flight flew by. Skylar didn’t have a moment to feel bored. She also used the time to learn some about the Garza family.
The Garza family had only two children–Lizzie and her brother, Herman Garza. The weight of the family business had always rested on Herman’s shoulders, as Lizzie had no interest in the corporate world.
Lizzie had been deeply passionate about music since she was a child. As a result, her parents) Carl Garza and Winona Parham, placed all their hopes on Herman.
For a long time, Herman lived up to their expectations. He was brilliant and capable, and his parents were finally nearing the time when they could retire and enjoy a more peaceful life.
But out of nowhere, Herman changed.
They had consulted well–known doctors worldwide and done thorough health checks. The conclusion was that Herman was physically healthy.
The only potential issue was psychological, but even top therapists couldn’t offer a solution.
The past year had been filled with worry for Carl and Winona, and the strain had visibly aged them. Even Lizzie had considered giving up her career as a violinist by the end of the year.
By the time the plane landed, Paul had thoroughly explained the Garza family’s current troubles to Skylar.
After collecting her luggage, Skylar spotted Lizzie waiting for them at the arrivals gate.
