Chapter 191
Pearl brought Carson upstairs and pushed open the door of her parents‘ room. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
Even though her parents were no longer here, the master bedroom was still preserved by Pearl for them. After evicting the usurping Ralph, everything was renovated to its original state.
The room was cleaned by special servants every day. It was very clean and there was no dust at all.
Carson stepped into the Rose Garden for the first time. It was also his first time entering Ken’s and Rebecca’s room. As soon as he noticed the portraits on the desk in the room, his eyes welled up with tears.
“Grandpa, come in.”
Pearl reached out to pull Carson, who was standing at the door, into the room. She guided him to the leather couch to take a seat. Then, she walked to the desk and looked at the photos of her parents.
“Dad, Mom, Grandpa is here to see you.”
Carson sat on the sofa, his eyes filled with emotion as he gazed at the photos. He remained silent for a long while.
The room of Ken and Rebecca had an elegant decor. The furniture was all made from rich, dark wood, and the room was adorned with beautiful paintings and fine art.
Even the bed was an intricately designed antique with a tall upholstered headboard and soft, luxurious bedding. The room had a timeless and classic feel to it.
Every time her siblings came to the Rose Garden and entered this room, they were struck by the sense of nostalgia and elegance.
Pearl approached Carson and sat on the carpet beside him, her eyes catching his gaze. “Grandpa, Dad told me this bed was a wedding gift from you. Is that true?”
“Yes, it is.
Carson nodded with a sigh. “I remember the day they got married as if it were yesterday. It’s astonishing how fast you’ve grown into a young lady.”
He reached out and affectionately patted Pearl’s head. His eyes were filled with love.
“But I heard that three years ago after you went missing, Ralph continued to stay in the Rose Garden. I am quite surprised that these precious possessions are still here. He didn’t sell them.”
Pearl
gave a
a soft, somewhat enigmatic smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.
“When I left three years ago, I knew Uncle Ralph wouldn’t part with the Rose Garden. So I had Emily, our house manage move all the valuable items from this room and replace them with replicas. After all, he doesn’t have an eye for art.”
Carson raised an eyebrow and chuckled.
“He is a bit of a slow learner, and Errol is even worse. After years of learning about antiques from me, they barely scratched the surface. They’ve aged without gaining much wisdom.
He shook his head in disappointment.
“Our Woolery family’s traditions and skills have been passed down to your father, and now he’s passed them on to you. It’s a relief to know that the legacy is in capable hands. Otherwise, when my time comes. I’d have a hard time facing our ancestors.” Pearl looked up and said, “With my limited skills, I can’t compare to my Dad, and I’m even farther from you. Grandpa.” “When have you started to be so humble? I still remember when you were ten years old, you made bold promises, wanting to surpass your dad
Carson tapped her on the head and playfully remarked, “After three years of adventures, you’ve grown up, and now you’ve

learned to flatter people and tell lies?”
“That’s not true.”
Pearl wrinkled her nose and responded, “Back then, I was still young, and my skills weren’t well–developed. My father teased me, which is why I retorted.
Carson asked, “What about now?”
Pearl replied, “Now, I’ve learned how vast the world is.”
Carson laughed out loud. “Pearl, you’ve been smart since you were young. You have a strong temperament and share many similarities with your father when he was young. You’re practically cut from the same cloth.
Pearl was surprised and said, “Oh, really? I’ve always thought my dad has a good temper.”
Ralph and Errol have turned out that way, but Ken didn’t put righteousness before family. Instead, he supported them a lot. If it were her, she definitely wouldn’t be able to tolerate it.
“His personality changed after falling in love with your mother.”
Carson explained, “Your father has significant talents, but your mother’s talents are even greater. When the two of them are together, it’s like one power canceling out another. He listened to her most of the time.”
Pearl listened attentively, enjoying the stories about her parents. She felt like she was listening to a fascinating tale.
However, she understood that the way Carson saw her parents differed significantly from her own perspective due to their differing viewpoints and roles.
After listening for a long time, Carson mentioned Ken and Rebecca leaving home to start their own business, Pearl noticed Carson’s expression and asked hesitantly, “Did my dad’s decision to leave home and come to Nanston all those years ago originate from my mom?”
Carson responded, “Yes, but not entirely.”
Carson recalled the scene of Ken leaving home a few years ago. He still felt like his heart was being cut by a knife. This was also the scene of his nightmares over the years. Recently, he had dreamed of it more and more.
He thought that perhaps Ken was lonely in the netherworld and was calling out to him.
Carson told Pearl that Ken had cut ties with him and left their home largely because of jealousy and the bullying by Ralph and Errol.
Carson’s red eyes were a little cloudy. He took a deep breath and said, “Actually, Ken is not my biological son. He’s an orphan I picked up from outside.”
Pearl was shocked. Even though she already knew that her father was not the Woolery family’s son, this was the first time she had heard Carson reveal her father’s background. She could not help but hold her breath and listen carefully.
“When I was young, my personality wasn’t even better than that of Ralph and Errol. Except for the skills about carving and antiques, which my father forced out with a switch, I had no other abilities.
“After my father died, I wandered outside like a lonely ghost. Because of this ability, I got to know a bunch of scoundrels and followed them to sell antiques.
“I had made money quickly. You know, when you have a lot of money, bad habits follow. You’ll learn how to drink, gamble, and smoke
Carson leaned back in his chair and carefully recalled his past. “Before your great–grandfather’s passing, he arranged a marriage for me. I found the girl too simple and was unwilling.
“At the same time, I liked those flirtatious women. Later, a girl got pregnant, so I brought her home. She was Ralph’s and Errol’s mother, Bertha
“It was also later that I found out that the girl I was originally engaged to, after knowing that I had run away, left her home to
find me. She was bullied by others and even gave birth to a child.
Later, when the villagers started gossiping about her, her parents chased her away. She ended up raising the child on her own.
“Out of guilt, I went out to find her. Thinking that Bertha was gone, and seeing that Ralph and Errol also needed a mother to take care of them. I decided to marry her. It was a way to amend my mistakes from the past.
Unexpectedly, when I arrived, she had contracted tuberculosis and passed away. Your father was still a child back then, but he didn’t act or look like a child. He dug a hole with a hoe and buried your grandmother without a sound. He didn’t even cry. When I said that I wanted to bring him home, he opened his big eyes and calmly asked me if I was his father. I told him that I wasn’t in the past, but would be in the future.
Then he answered me, ‘Oh, then give me some food to eat. When you’re old in the future, I’ll dig a hole and bury you so that you can rest peacefully
